Kodak EasyShare 5.1

To quote somebody from this forum:

Kodak makes good film
Casio makes good watches and calculators
Sony makes good camcorders and TVs
Canon makes good camera (so do Nikon and Pentax)

So to answer your question: do you want ease of use or good quality picture or both? If you want ease of use, yes, if you want either of the other two, the answer is no. For the sam price you can get Fuji or Canon and they will yield far better picture quality than any Kodak.

my daughter has/had a 4 mp easy share. the pictures can be ok but it lasted all of under 2 yrs then it just stopped working...she did drop it twice ( actually she fell down some steps while holding it once in Paris and once in Peru...takes after her klutzy mother ;) ) but she only used it on vacations and rare occasions...it really didn't hold up very well for the amount of time she used it...like probably 6 months of use for someone who would take a normal amount of pictures. so kind of a waste of money no matter what the pictures look like

Well, not sure what you mean by "to start with in photography". It will take fine snapshots. If you want to learn more about photography, and have more control over your picture-taking, then you probably want something more sophisticated.

My Kodak was a great intro into digital for me (I think it had only 3mp! :rolleyes1 but at least it had telephoto). I took some very good (i.e., I was happy with them) shots with it. Now, were you to take those same shots w/ a better camera and place them side by side, then sure, you'd notice a difference.

So, my point is, for me the kodak was a fine intro into digital, but as Kelly says, if it costs the same, then better to go with a camera shown to have better results.

Good luck and have fun with your new toy! :wave2:

thanks for all the help guys, but another quick question. Would the Fuji FinePix 5.1-Megapixel Digital Camera be a better option?

I have finepix 5.2... you can see some my pics in the links in my siggy. Easy to use.

in terms of picture quality, even the Fuji A345 (4 MP) is better than most Kodak at a similar price range.
