Know where my FAVORITE place in the world is, Mommy? I'm OUTTA HERE!!! Dude OUT!

OK, I have no planning to do right now, and I can't sew when the kids are home (It gets messy and dangerous), so I am writing some restaurant reviews from our last trip to WDW. In case anyone is ever interested. Remember, now, this is 10.5 months later, so I don't have a lot of specifics, but I can go over general impressions and the like.

Oh, and I am going ot write this similar to my AZ TR. Lots of editing, in case of loss....

Oh, we ate a LOT of TS meals,a s we were bilked into the Platinum plan by the travel agent (who was obviously on commission). We got 3 meals and 2 snacks a day, but it was all in points. They screwed up our points, and we were given 5 MEALS a day and no snack credits. All normally 2-ts meals counted as 1, and V&A was included. WE made the most of it (including the otehr extras, like a fireworks cruise, concierge service, and FREE unlimited babysitting and kids club use), and ended up coming out ahead, but we ate WAY WAY too much, and the snack problem was a pain. This year, as a reminder, we are using CASH. Ok, enugh about that. I might post more about it later....depends on hoew CHATTY I feel. :lmao:

Restaurants:

:thumbsup2 Mara - I liked this "restaurant", and was PISSED we only found it on the last day of our trip. They had a nice selection,a nd a good sitting area. They had cartoons going in the corner which kept the kids entertained. EVERYONE who was there with us that morning liked that restaurant, too, as we bought about 10 meals for others, trying to work our points down...:rolleyes1:

:confused3 Boma - This was the first restaurant we ate at. I like to eat at the restaurant IN our resort the first night, which is why, in April, we will start out at WCC. I thought the food was good, but I disliked the buffet, as there was a lot of lie cutting, standing still while people started blankly at the food, and othe things that were unsanitary. I am usually a non-buffet person, myself, also, so I tend to be rough on them. Boma was LOUD and crowded, adn we waited 45 minutes past our ADR time to be seated, when we had shown up 15 minutes early. This was tough with little kids. the waiting area was VERY CROWDED, too. In general, it was OK. ood food but I would have preferred to be able to ORDER food, instead of walking behind that lady who put her fingers into everything and smelled them. (she was WEIRD, and I finally spoke to her about it, as she was grossing me out!) :scared:

The only buffet I have ever liked has been Sweet Tomatoes. Probably because every one I have been to, the staff is there keepiong people's hands OUT of the food! And it's easy to tell when the salad has been out too long...

 Jiko - OK, the fact that we waited over an HOUR past our ADR time to be seated, when we were there 20 miutes early for our ADR, and the waitress was SLOOOOW, tot he point that the kids fell asleep at the table BEFORE we got out Appetizers, adn we had to eat all of our food COLD in our room kind of soured me on this restaurant. I remember the food being OK, getting a LOT of pressure to get an alcoholic beverage, and waiting 30 minutes after ordering to get our appetizers. We had 6:30 ADRs, were seated at 7:30, and didn't get our appetizers until after 8. Then the waitress gave me a hard time about packign the food up for us. I ended up carrying BOTH kids upto the room while HHBG dealt eith the waitress and the food. I know the manager was called.....:headache:

I have no real Idea about how the food was, as, like I said, it was cold, adn we ate it on our balcony while we tried to be quiet and not wake the kids.

HHBG just chimed in that he really liked the flat bread pizza, and it was good even cold. He ordered it from room service one night, too. :lovestruc

:thumbsup2 Akershus Princess Storybook Dining - I KNOW we are in the minority here, but we really liked this restaurant. we were seated about 10 minutes after out ADRs. The kids got their pics with Aurora, and we sat down. The waitress was friendly and perky. we ordered a nice Norwegian wine, and HHBG and I ordered our food. One of us got the meatball and noodle dish...kojjjake or whatever it's called. The other one of us got some sort of fish, I think. The kids got hot dogs (Authentic NORWEGIAN HOTDOGS!). I liked the cheeses and the meats ont he koltboard, and HHBG liked the marinade for the shrimp. Neither one of us ate the herring...:rolleyes1

The princesses took a lot of time at each table, and at one point a hostess came up to be sure we had seen everyone. when we told her we hadn't seen Snow White, she was over by us within ten minutes. Snow white also LOVED DD's Snow white outfit, and the princesses all grabbed a little girl dressed like them, pulled them into the middle of the room and had the wait staff take pics (we didn't...forgot). it was really cute. :cutie:

There wasn't enough dessert for our table, and the tables were REALLY TIGHT together (I couldn't move my chair, as the guy behind me was smack up against my chair), but it was an experience we are willing to repeat, adn will in April, as it is the only thing Brianna requested....princess:

DSCN0396.jpg

See? He LIKES the princesses!

 Coral Reef - we went here for lunch. It was crowded, but we got seated relatively quickly. We were seated way in the back of the restaurant near a school group, which didn't help our experience here. Our kids whined that they couldn't see the fish, and when they went potty with HHBG, Spence came back all upset that he had missed a character. HHBG's food and wine were good. Mine were BAD. I couldn't even eat them, they were so bad. The veggies were squishy and smelled, and the fish was so overly salted, it was practically inedible. I would have sent it back to be remade, but the waitress dropped the food and NEVER CAME BACK, even for our desserts, which were included in our meal.... HHBG had to go find a hostess to get a check. We went outside, and I hit up a Mickey bar stand. :mickeybar

:thumbsup2 Rainforest Cafe-AK location - We loved this place! We walked in without an ADR, because, well, we were hungry. the kids ran around the shopw ith HHBG, and I went and got us into the queue. Our food was yummy and there was a LOT of it....more than we wanted, really. I remember the pot roast was awesome. We got the kids those giant rainbow slushies which come in a souvenir sports bottle with a toy in the bottom (it was so cool, I got one to go at the end of our meal), and HHGB and I got some sort of drink that came in a light-up cup. All those cups came home, and I am drinking out of one right now, lol. I don't remember what everyone else ate, but we got the nachos for an appetizer, adn we were pretty ful after that.

The big thing that made me love this place was, I got the brownie volcano dessert, and the little gir sittin at the table next to us was entranced by the "sparkler". She kept asking her parents to get it, but they didn't want to (it was HUGE!!), so I gave her my sparkler (which was what she realy wanted). She did the cutest little dance, and the parents thanked me. It made my day to make her so happy. :lovestruc

OK, this is getting long...I am continuing in another post.....

 Crystal Palace - we waited a while to be seated here. We were here for lunch at 3pm. We got seated at 3:45. I thought the food was good for a buffet, but the dining room was PANDEMONIUM!! The characters came fast and furious, and kids dogged them,a s there were no handlers helping them. A few amost tripped on people and strollers, adn the like. people around us were being LOUD, and the whole restaurant seemed LOUD. We were seated close to the food, so every time a character was by us, so were about 15 random kids with autograph books, poking the characters to get their attention, and getting into our pictures. I felt like we couldn't eat, though we saw the characters each about twice. I don't know, I guess I just don't really like character meals with the non-face characters. It was real pandemonium. HHBG hated it more than I did, since he doesn't do well with crowds and jostling. He refuses to ever go back.

DSCN0460-1.jpg

Eyeore put the croc on his nose, and S was retrieving it. Those little girls were told FOUR times to back off by passing bus boys and waitresses, as they were poking and prodding Eyeore for his autograph, and Eyeore kept shaking his head no and pointing to my kids. The dad was encouraging them to go over and get his attention, and one time one of the little girls almost got hurt, beuase she was behind Eyeore when he stood up. Finally, our waitress told them to go sit down or there was going to be a problem..

:thumbsup2 Tony's - We enjoyed ourselves here. We walked in here, also. It was a non-scheduled day for us, and we were in the MK. We waited about 30 minutes to be seated, but the kids were Ok with that, because they had Lady adn the Tramp playing on the TV, so they just camped on the floor in front of that. (which some people deemed rude, but why was the TV there, then??). I forget what we ate for lunch, though I know I had the calimari for an appetizer. Everything was good, adn the kids ate well. Our waitress was really nice and prompt. Service is important to me.

DSCN0494.jpg

Look Mommy...TV at Disney World!

 Sci Fi Diner - OK, I know this whole review has been a downer, and this isn't a whole lot better. We HATED this place! We ended up waiting a while to be seated (which seemed to be a theme this vacation, though the parks were relatively uncrowded  ). The show was cute, but the food was terrible. I got the grilled chicken, and it was dry and rubbery. I had the Chili for an appetizer, adn it was not very tasty. I forget what HHBG got, but his was bad, too. The waitress kept forgetting us, too. The sundaes we got for dessert were AWESOME, though, and the fries and b's hamburger were fine. If we had the time to spend, and it looked uncrowded, we might go back here for dessert.

:confused3 Chef Mickey's - We were here for a late breakfast. I had heard GREAT things about CM, and I wanted to take the kids. We had 10:30 Adrs, and were seated pretty quickly. We got the required "plate pic", and sat down in the back past the buffet. We saw MOST of the characters, and the breakfast was OK. It felt like we were kind of ignored bring in the back of the room. It was busy, too. I thought it was OK, I just didn't really enjoy it a whole lot. I would never dissuade someone from going here, it just wasn't for us.

DSCN0435.jpg

Spencer didn't want Goofy to leave. They had already had their pic, and he just wouldn't let go. it was really cute. We have a series fo pics of Spence hugging poor Goofy.

 Flying Fish Cafe - this was by FAR our favorite restaurant of the trip! What a wonderful experience! HHBG and I went here for one of our "date nights". the waiter we had was awesome, and our meals were fabulous. I forget what we had, other than the cheese plate (which was ymmy). I think we had a lot of specials, adn it was a great night. We ended up eating so long, we didnt make it to Fantasmic,a dn we didn't care. It was fabulous. The food was cooked perfectly, adn the atmospheere was great. There was also No one in the restaurant. TWO thumbs up. We ARE going back here again, too.

:confused3 AKL Room Service - the night after we saw La Nouba, we got dinner and 4 or 5 mornings we got breakfast from room service. The breakfast was good, though there was not a lot of options. The dinner was OK. If we had found Mara earlier, we would have eaten there more and ordered less room service. It was included in our package, though, so I wasn't oo upset about it.

:snooty: Victoria and Albert's - OK....I htink I need a new post for V&A....It's a hard one to describe....Totally did not meet expectations...

I think we also had one CS meal at AK (which sucked, but I forget which is was...), and we cancelled one reservation because we were running late and didn't want to miss La Nouba....We had a BUNCH of snacks too....all were yummy.

In general, we were happy with the food at WDW. :thumbsup2 We definitely learned something about ourselves. HHBG and I don't like character dining with non-face characters, adn we don't like buffets. Bad service can ruin our meals for us, and restaurants that don't meet expectations, even when they're good, are not places we are likely to return to. :snooty: I hope we have more good reviews for everyone after this trip!! :flower3:

Victoria And Albert's

I have to preface this post with the information that we went here with very high expectations. V&A is the only 5 diamond AAA award holder in Florida. It is considered the pinnacle of dining in the state on some food websites. Even UoG loves it.

Well....

We had an early dinner reservation. We got there 10 minutes early, and had to sit outside, as the restaurant wasn't open yet. No problem. HTey said they would come get us when they were ready to seat gests. No problem. the little bar area outside wasn't open yet, but we sat down adn ot comfortable. Then three couples went inside and didn't come back out. huh? :confused3

HHBG got up and ewent inside, then came backout an beckoned me in. We were seated, and given a wine list. The waiter came up to us with our "personalised menus" and pointed out that, since I am allergic to artificial sweeteners, they had to make me a special dessert, so we were having Creme Brulee. Uh, OK. Every other dessert has artificial sweeteners in it? wow.

We ordered our foods and wine. the fod came out and....well....it was OK. It was about on par with what I consider a mid-level restaurant. Better than a chain, but nothing super special. The service was spotty, which was surprising considering how FEW people were there, and many of our questions and concerns were kind of "blown off". We had to flag someone down for a check. (I HATE having to do that)

The food was ok, but, honestly, pretty "safe" and mainstream. If you are going to make "safe" food, you have to do it flawlessly, and it wasn't. HHBg had to send his steak back becuase it was RAW inside, and he had ordered it medium. Another course, we got "over-carmelized" (read:burned) vegetables with our dish. It wasn't BAD it just wasn't great either.

In all, I thought the meal was OK, but it just wasn't what I would expect of an award winning, Super high class restaurant. I know many people LOVE V&A, but we just weren't one of them. We thought we had a better meal at Flying Fish.

I'm sure some people read this and are like "well, they just don't recognize a good restaurant", but I don't think that's true. Hopefully, they just had an off night. I'm not sure I want to drop $500 for dinner to make sure.

So what ADR's do you have this year Angela? :rotfl:

Just for you, Jo: (and to keep you here....:lmao: )

Fulton's Crab House

:hippie:

Brianna just informed me that:

She doesn't want her hair done at the BBB, she just wants the outfit, make-up, and pictures. :headache:

She doesn't want me to make her any more dresses for school, but to BUY ones to replace the ones she grew out of. :headache:

And she wants me to BUY her more outfits, and make less. :sad1:

AND, instead of the Easter dress I was going to remake with the fabric she spent an hour finding yesterday (and messing up my stash EVEN MORE), she now wans me to BUY HER ONE!! A Yellow one with pink flowers, no less (that is the fabric she picked out, but she doesn't want a "yucky one" like I apparently make) :sad1:

Oh, and I haven't been giving her enough presents, apparently....since the Ariel doll I bought her needs clothes, and she needs another princess doll to go with her, and we only bought them new paints and coloring books at walgreens today, and not the toys they wanted.....etc etc etc....

Ungrateful little wretch.

These are gud. Not sure I'd leave Fulton's on there though... unless you REALLLY love Crab... and a "bread guy".

Bistro de Paris is probably my all time favorite. That and Cal Grill.

I am going to check out Artists Point if you give it the old :thumbsup2

Akershus Princess Storybook Dining - Always gud. :thumbsup2

Coral Reef - Never been. Everyone goes though so I'll probably put it in the rotation for October. See if you can be near the "windows".HHBG's food was good. Mine was horrible. I say: try it.

Rainforest Cafe-AK location - We love it too. It has a bad rap.

Crystal Palace - Never been but I've read two gud reviews on it.

Tony's - Never been. This is only a partial title. I looked it up: it is Tony's Town Square

Sci Fi Diner - Never been. Don't go!

Chef Mickey's - Love it. Great character interaction.

Flying Fish Cafe - Never miss it. One of our all time favorites.

Victoria and Albert's - Didn't care for it. Too stuffy for us. Food was too fancy. Needed a slice of pizza afterwards.

See, for us, V&A put on airs it didn't deserve. I felt the fod wasn't very dancy at all. Different people, different perspectives. :confused3

I really love crab. :thumbsup2

Never been to Cali grill. It was the ONLY place we couldn't get into. Maybe I'll try to get in there for Oct. I hate going to nice places without HHBG, though.

I'll be sure to let you know about Artist's point.

You haven't met an ungreatful wretch until you've met me.

Scared? You better be.

Lova ya Ang! :upsidedow

Mara--Never been

Boma--Never been

Jiko--One of my favorite restaurants on property. Our server was outstanding. If you had a bad experience, makes me think it's a bit spotty overall.

Akershus--Never been

Coral Reef--Had a great lunch there. It wasn't that busy. Service good. We were in the last row, but we didn't have kids w/ us. No one seated around us. My steak was really good. I was skeptical, but we had a good time.

Rainforest Cafe-AK--Only been to DTD location. Will need to try it.

Crystal Palace--Never been. See a trend w/ Character Meals...?

Tony's--Wendy and I liked this location, Derek not so much.

Sci-Fi--It's not that I would never go back here because I love the theming, it's just the food is not worth the price. The rest of the people went in February and had a great meal.....go figure.

Chef Mickey's--never been-Characters....

Flying Fish--:cloud9:

Victoria and Alberts--Nope. Flying Fish and CA Grill are my faves....

Just looked it up and read about the situation! We'll be praying that everything works out for HHBG! Scary times, I would imagine....

Same here Angela.:grouphug:

Thank you. HHBG is relatively senior working as one of the top IT guys in the Energy Dept. BUT his twin borther already works for the London Office of JPMorganChase. We need to find out the policies on that, and whether or not they're even planning on keeping his dept.

Much of our holdings were in Bear stock, too. :sad2: WE just got a lot of restricted stock, and hadn't sold it, in the hopes that it would rebound.

us = dumb
