Seems we have more guests coming to visit than we can handle. Considering a sleeper sofa for the overflow. Looked most of this afternoon for one but wasn't overly thrilled with any of them. The design and style isn't the problem......none of them look and feel as though they provide enough comfort to get through a night. Anyone here able to recommend a particular brand that may be a cut above the others?:sunny:

If you find one, please post. I have never had a bit of luck with them, and gone the Aero bed route instead.

The idea is to keep them uncomfortable, so the guests don't stay. ;)

We recently bought new furniture. DH wanted to get a sleeper sofa. I flat out refused because not only are they the most uncomfortable beds in the world, they're not even comfortable as couches. I agree with going the air mattress route. We have a queen sized one for our family room when guests come, and it's very comfortable.

P.S. Just had a thought. How about a daybed? They are 2 actual twin sized mattresses (one slides underneath), and with the bolster pillows during the day, can act as extra seating, just like a couch would. At least this would give a better night's sleep than a folding sleeper sofa would.

I've slept on some really comfortable futons. I think that's what I'm going to buy for guests.

We had a Benchcraft sofa bed that wasn't too bad. You can upgrade the mattress. Get the best mattress and an egg crate pad...should be comfortable enough for overnight guests.

We have a Natuzzi, leather sleeper sofa. It was expensive, but definitely worth it. We are currently looking ffor another, that will go in the kids playroom, but didn't want to spend as much since it will get lots of abuse...it is proving to be a difficult search. The Natuzzi with premium grade leather and the "upgraded" queen sleeper was approx $3,800 (on sale). We've had it for 6 years and it is still beautiful and comfortable with no sagging. And from a usage perspective I am sprawled out on it just about every night. The sleeper has been used infrequently, but it is comfortable as far as sleepers go.

I have a Lazyboy and it came with a pretty good mattress. My mom has slept on it and she claims it was very comfortable. DS thinks it's a treat when mom makes the sofa into a bed.:D

TC

I agree that futons are the most comfortable couch/bed combination. However, I wouldn't want one in my main living room. Most of them aren't as comfortable as a regular couch.

My parents have a fold-up rollaway bed in a closet that they use for guests. If you have the space for it, it's a little more comfortable than the bed on a sleeper couch, and you don't have to make any compromises on the comfort of the couch.

I'm another person that will vote for an air mattress over a sleeper sofa. Aerobeds come with their own electric pumps, and they even have some that are the same height as a regular bed. They're expensive, but not as much as you'll spend on a good sleeper sofa.

That having been said, if you are set on a sleeper sofa, consider having a board cut the same size as the mattress. The most uncomfortable thing about sleeper, IMO, is feeling the bars in your back. My grandmother's brother has an old, not so comfortable sleeper, but when he puts a board between the mattress and the frame, it feels like any other (fairly firm) bed.
