Knock off purses

A knock off of what?

Yeah, what? :confused3
We all know Coach is not the most expensive brand there is, but it is a brand. Coach bags are not knock-offs of Prada, Chanel, LV...I am lost.

I always wonder at the women I see carrying around a Louis Vuitton knock-off in a local grocery store wearing flips-flops, a stained tee shirt and Levis and pushing a runny-nosed kid in a cart. Do they really think they are fooling anybody? I suppose a woman carrying a $2,000 purse could be wearing jeans from 1995...but I don't think so. Why would anybody even carry a knock-off when there are perfectly nice, non-fake purses out there?

Hmm...I wonder if anybody who saw me at the grocery store this afternoon, just after work, in my dirt-smeared t-shirt (I work at a nursery and was repotting plants all day), shorts and flip-flops wondered if the genuine Coach purse I was carrying was a fake. I never stopped to think about that before.

What are you talking about, Coach bags being knock-offs?

The history of Coach:

Coach handbags got it's start when it's founder noticed how distinctive the leather used in baseball gloves was and how well it lasted in spite of rough handling. So began Coach handbags in 1941 with their first refined leather bags, built to stand the test of time.

Six artists began Coach in a loft in Manhattan, New York and the company has since stayed in New York in a larger location to allow for it's expansion. Only the top 10% of quality leather is chosen to become a Coach handbag and the leather is slow cured in large drums with rotation for several days. The leather is then enriched with natural treatments which produces a softening effect to bring out the individual grain of each piece of leather.

Sales declined for the company in 1998 with the changing of high-end handbags to a more eclectic blend of materials such as fabric and mixed materials. The conception among consumers saw Coach handbags as rather conservative and traditional.

Coach Handbag in "scribble" pattern

Coach recognized the need for change and responded dramatically with it's introduction of the first signature line of bags with the letter "C" print and a mixture of fabric and leather. This style was an immediate hit and Coach knew a winner when it saw one!

Strong revenue growth began with Coach's sales growing from 12% in 2001 to 20% in 2002. Coach will continue to grown in sales with it's introduction of the new "Scribble" pattern, the "Scarf" pattern, and my personal favorite, the "Ladybug Applique" pattern. If you are looking for a timeless classic handbag or something new, just check out Coach handbags for the best of both worlds.

Coach = $200.00
LV = $2000.00.

I would believe your bag is real. :)

You are aware that Coach purses are knock-offs, right? Expensive (for some people) knock-offs, but knock-offs none-the-less. You aren't actually getting a designer's bag, you know.

Oh, goody, NOW the thread will be popcorn:: worthy.

That reminds me of this one time... I was doing laundry and apparently some bleached had splashed on my shirt and some got on my jeans!!!

I had to make a quick run to the store and while I was walking around in the store I noticed all the beach stains  Oh well...

I'm sure you didn't mean for that to sound as, um, snotty as it came out, but if you must know, the reason I choose to carry a Coach bag as opposed to a LV bag is very simple: attractiveness. I have never had any desire to own anything LV just because, to me, it's just kind of...ugly. But that's me. :)

Agreed! I don't like them either.

I personally woudn't buy a knock off, but I can tell you there are more and more "purse parties" around here hosted by very unsuspecting women. They are all knock offs, and sell like mad. The last one was held by the PTA president:scared1:

KateSpade on line is having a great summer sale. :thumbsup2

I'm selfish. Now that I can afford a Coach bag, I won't get one, because too many people are carrying the fakes.

I don't know about terrorists, but when you carry a fake bag, it devalues the real ones. And, those of us who might have carried a real one, won't. And, I think it's stealing from the designer, who spent time and effort coming up with something beautiful. The knock-offs don't use the same materials or craftsmanship and many of them are made by children in third world countries.

My advice? Save your money until you can afford the real one. It will last longer and you'll be prouder of it because you worked for it.

Ummmm, I have real purses and I do not get dressed to grocery shop. I live in flip flops and have 3 (soon to be 4!) kids so I usually have something on my clothes from whatever activity we were doing. I love nice pocketbooks. You never have a fat day with a pocketbook! I also got my more expensive ones (LV. Chanel etc.) way before I even had kids. They are timeless and I like them alot. I even used to use one of my bags as a -gasp- diaper bag!!! So you never know. Anyone can have a nice bag that isn't a knockoff.

No, I didn't mean it to be snotty.

I would MUCH rather have Coach than LV, for the same reason. I think the Coach bags are gorgeous, and I don't much care for the LVs.

I was thinking merely of the cost. Hell, I don't know any women who can afford a 2k purse, but maybe they do walk around in flip-flops and mom jeans. :) Maybe I'm so unfashionable that I didn't know Levi 501s and LVs went together. :)

I didn't mean to offend anybody, I just think that people should buy what they can afford and not pretend to be able to afford something they cannot. And, that is all a knock-off is for.

I've carried 9 West and other generic brands of purses for years and they are plenty cute.

I honestly don't remember who Coach knocks off. I was sitting around with women who were making fun of people who shop in malls (and one specific woman, in particular) and how they buy knock-off clothing and purses and such. Well, they were pretending to feel sorry for them, but were really insulting them. I don't think they knew then that I was part of this riff-raff they felt so sorry for.

So, I asked who they knocked off, like you guys did. I couldn't tell you exactly. But, Coach knocks off these people, Liz Claiborne knock off so-and-so. I distinctly remember Coach because there was more than one name. Most of the names were people I'd never heard of.

They told me all this thinking I was unfamiliar with something like Coach because I was above all that tacky stuff...like I was familiar with the real deals. It was kind of funny.

I don't remember what all was said. Maybe those women were wrong, and going on their word, I'm wrong. They sure seemed to know what they were talking about, though.

If I am wrong, I apologize to all the people who are carrying non-knock-off Coach purses. Mea culpa. :)

Oh, and I just reread my post, and I'm sorry. That TOTALLY did not sound in my head the way it reads.

I don't know where the little embarrassment smiley is, but I'd use it now if I could.

Where did the myth start that LVs cost $2000?? Sure some do, but not all or even most. It is simply not true.

I think some of the Coach bags I've seen remind me of Marc Jacobs. Could that be it?

OK I wear the Levis 515's not the 501's and yes my $1500 Louis bags are real and I have more than a dozen of them.:goodvibes . I spend my money on the purses more than the clothes. I do have designer jeans but nothing is as comfy as my 515's.

The Multicolors, Suhali, & other lines do run more in that range but you are right they mostly are in the $700-$1,000 range.

I stand corrected.

My analogy was clearly messed up. :)
