:confused3 I have been looking online to get some good feedback on knives and I can't find anything really useful. So, I figured I would try here.

Here is my dilema. I have seen a Cutco presentation before and thought those were a great set but very expensive. Now I just hosted a Pampered Chef show and they have Forged Cutlery. These knives remind me of the Cutco knives, but I don't know if they are in the same category or not. Pricewise I think they are, but I could be wrong.

Does anyone out there have experience with either Cutco or Pampered Chef Forged Cutlery to give me some ideas?

Thanks a bunch!

Deanna

I don't know much about Pampered Chef cutlery, but I can tell you that my Cutco Cutlery is incredible.

I have quite a few Pampered Chef items, and they are very nice. I'm sure the cutlery is very nice as well. But I can tell you that the Cutco is OUTSTANDING.

And if you look on epinions.com, there are quite a few (100 or so) reviews of Cutco Cutlery, and you can probably count on one hand the negative reviews.

We have Cutco and love it! There are actually very few of thier knives I don't have. They are the best and they have great customer service. They may be more expensive but the cost is worth it. I have some knives that are over 12 years old and still going strong!

We bought a Cutco set several years ago and they are the best knives I've ever had. I enjoy just being able to throw them in the dishwasher too.

Do they need sharpening often? Do you send them back to them to get sharpened?

Ok, since most of you have Cutco, I have a question. I saw that most people online say they are great and very sharp. I did see 1 person say that they rusted and pitted. But that was just 1 opinion. I want to know from any of you if you have had rust, corrosion, etc.

thx and thx for all the feedback so far!

I don't have any experience with Pampered Chef, but I do have the experience with Cutco.

My parents own a Cutco set. Even though it may be expensive, they do last! My parents have had their knife set since the late 60's! They even have the big spoons that went with it including the potato masher (which Cutco does not have anymore :( ). I inherited my grandmother's spoon set with the potato masher, when she passed away back in 1996. And believe it or not, I use the potato masher every now and then before using the beaters to make mashed. The beaters make the mashed very lumpy and I don't like lumps :rolleyes1

Did they change the handles to make them more dishwasher friendly? My parent's put theirs in the dishwasher and it changed the nice brown finish to a washed out look. Probably b/c it's a much older set.

OP, as far as rust goes, no. My parent's never had any rust on them at all.

I have about everything Pampered chef there is...I really do love it! Their knives are nice...but we use our Henkels knives the most...

I have several of the Pampered Chef knives and I love them. I never heard of cutco.

I Cutco and Henkels. I love both of them. I would buy Cutco again!! I have had them for 8 1/2 years and still not even close to being dull!!

I'm not familiar with Cutco, but I'm a PC consultant and have some experience with their knives. I don't personally have the Forged ones yet, but a friend of mine does and she loves them.

One thing I can tell you about the Pampered Chef knives is that they do have a lifetime guarantee, so if anything happens to them, you can get them replaced.

Also, a general tip: you should never put your knives in the dishwasher. The heat in the dishwasher will dull the blades. The water in your dishwasher heats to a significantly higher temperature than the water you would use to hand wash them. That being said, you also shouldn't leave the knives sitting in water for any real length of time because that can dull them also.

I have both and IMHO Cutco is far better. You can take my PC, but LEAVE MY CUTCO KNIVES!

Have Pampered Chef Forged Cutlery; don't have Cutco and don't know how it relates to Cutco. Notice: I am a consultant as well.

I've heard Pampered Chef Forged Cutlery be compared to Wusthof knives.

Personally, I love the Forged Cutlery from the aspect that it cuts through everything easily; no elbow grease needed. I also like that you don't have to even have it evaluated for sharpening for at least 2 years. Hone it all you like with no problems.

Personal story...I went to do a show shortly after the Forged Cutlery came out. Recipe needed brownies made ahead of time and the host offered to make them so they would be cool when I got there. Unfortunately, she overbaked them in an older aluminum pan...I got there to have it be a brownie brick.

Now, I had one of the Stainless Steel Knives that I never had problems with...always worked like a charm. Well, I needed those brownies in small squares before it went in a Trifle. I didn't want to get the Forged Cutlery dirty because I wanted to pass it around, so I reached for the stainless knife. All I succeeded in doing was flaking some brownie off the top...and I did give it some serious elbow grease.

So I took the Forged Knife of the same size (5") and I kid you not, I cut through those brownies in no time flat, no flaking, straight edges, the whole works.

Again...can't compare to Cutco because I don't have it. But I'm very satisfied with the Forged Cutlery in my own kitchen.

I love all my Cutco knives. No pitting or anything like that. I've never sent the serrated ones in to sharpen, and the set comes with a sharpener for the regualar blade ones. Dishwasher is fine for the products.

I have Henkel knives, but I like the Cutco better,

DH just got a set of Cutco knives and LOVES them.

My brother was a sales and marketing student at Purdue, and apparently one of his courses dealt with actually selling things to people. He had Cutco knives as his product and, wanting to see him do well in his class, my parents bought a BOATLOAD of Cutco stuff. It's amazing, and not just the fact that the kitchen shears will cut through pennies, either. ;) Sure, it's pricey, but it actually does what it says it'll do. I like the fact that I can slice tomatoes and not have them end up smushed or all raggedy looking, you know?

Cutco knives come with a forever guarantee so if you have an older set that you got from your grandmother, or leave yours to your kids, you can get them replaced if you have any probelms.

Thanks. As I mentioned, I was not familiar with Cutco. In fact, never heard of them, so I had no idea what their policy was.

As long as they still make that product. I have the potato masher that I mentioned earlier and Cutco no longer makes it. Thankfully, it's still in excellent shape and doesn't need to be replaced :thumbsup2 .

ETA:  Just went to Cutco's web site. Looks like they still make that old masher. I didn't think they did since I haven't seen it in the catalog my aunt has.
