Knife on cruise?

I guess it would be informational to post that I haven't seen many drug sniffing dogs at the terminal lately......;)

Sure, why not? People post a lot of things that not everyone agrees with, or finds interesting or meaningful. I don't know why that post bothers you so much.

Huh. We spent a fair amount of time debarkation morning in Galveston watching the dogs go all over the port and loading areas.
Pretty neat to watch.

At Port Canaveral we were pulled aside and our instant water boiler pitcher (Hamilton Beach) which we had packed and used at WDW was taken away, tagged, and then returned to us when we disembarked from the cruise.

I'd imagine they'd do the same for your knife.

I understand DCL's rules, however, it amazes me at the hysteria we have now over this. A pocket knife is no more of a weapon than a ball point pen or a set of keys. I am a country boy from the south. I carry a pocket knife with me everywhere I go.
I'm a country boy from the north and like to keep my 'tools' with me at all times, even on vacation. I travel with my laptop, pens, books, and yes a pocket knife. We have been on 7 cruises, 2 of the DCL and never have I had my pocket knife confiscated. I just put it in the little tray before the metal scanner, and it's returned to me on the other side. It's not a weapon!

Hi there,

I am well aware of the Gerber tools we all used these in 20 plus years in the military, however for various reasons these not permitted in DCL. If you we to be found to be carrying such a thing in this country, this carries an automatic jail sentence with a minimum term of 6 months for slightly larger blades. I think different countries in Europe have different rules and I know the US have very different attitudes to these things for hunting etc. Do you really need this on a vacation?

I carry a leatherman Micra with me almost everywhere I go, including DCL and RCL but I have been stopped a couple of times. I plan to leave it home the next time I cruise. The policy for these tools may seem vague but since the is a small knife it is considered a knife and apparently not allowed.

Not the same thing but I bought one of the delightful butter knives shaped like a paintbrush on the fantasy and stupidly had it in my carry-on. It was confiscated at the airport. I was so upset as its a BUTTER knife and my pen could as dangerous, but a knife is a knife.

Sob.

I packed my butter knife in my husband's dress shoes and then moved them to his carry-on at the last minute. He had NO idea the knife was in his carry-on bag (I was driving home) and I had forgotten it was in the shoes when I moved them. Anyway, somehow he talked TSA into letting him keep it. I got a very unhappy text from him about it, though. I will definitely be more careful next time!

Welcome to the Disboards. :cool1:

ETA; Apparently we can't bring hookah pipes either. I don't recall that one last time I reviewed the restricted items. :lmao:
Well that's really going to interfere my next sailing. :rotfl2:

It's not necessary to mock one's enjoyment of the hookah pipe. I enjoy sucking on the hookah from time to time, especially when I find myself in the East Village. I think it will be cool to pass the hookah around in the smoking section of an upper deck (although it's not really smoke don't get started on this) with my cruise mates as we sail the ocean blue. Oh well, there's always St. Marks Place

Mike

PS, I carry my Swiss Army knife with me when I travel when I know I'm going to check luggage. I know that I can't bring it on a plane anymore. I know I've had it with me on DCL cruises. I've never thought of it as a violation of a rule.
