Kitty question #1- Does your cat play with cat toys?

There are a lot of cat toys on the market, but Henry will only play with the little soft mice that come three or five to a pack. They're only about two inches long, (four if you include the tail), and have white heads, pink ears, and various colored bodies. Henry LOVES these mice!

He goes wild if you hold one from the tail and dangle it anywhere him. We have to warn company not to pick up any of the mice if Henry is in the room because he'll leap up and grab it, accidentally taking part of their finger with it. :)

We've tried other toys, but he's usually frightened if the toy is too big or makes any type of noise. He does like to chase string, though. Cheap toy!

How about your kitty?

Our cat Tornado likes the same soft mice yours do, but he has a free toy he loves the best: milk jug rings! He has a couple of the round plastic rings that come off gallon milk jugs, and he plays with those all the time. He bats them around on the hardwood and tile floors and he also likes to carry them around in his mouth, then deposit them in various places so he can try to fish them out again (like Dh's slippers!). He likes ping pong balls or even golf balls. This can be a curse, especially when he decides to roll golf balls across the hardwood floors when we're trying to sleep.

Molly (our biggest and youngest cat) is very playful. She will play with almost anything that catches her attention. Misty (the oldest) plays sometimes. Marco (the in-between) plays very little. We can occasionally get her to play on our bed, but mostly she prefers to sit in the window or sleep. I think she believes playing is beneath her.

Cats don't play with cat toys but dog thinks cats are dog toys. :rotfl2:

Our cats all like the mice, BUT the dogs chew them up, so they are a problem. They like the little plastic toys that are like the milk carton rings, but bigger (and are an actual toy). Apollo (the male kitten) likes the balls with a bell in it and he will carry them around, but none of the other cats really like them. Venus, his sister, likes to knock dog food out of the dish, but gets a little POed when the dog eats the toy. :rotfl: Tigger and Belle are fat and lazy, especially Belle. They all like dangly toys and Apollo likes a Knex that my son tied on the end of a pole/string. He goes NUTS when that comes out. Funny how they all like different toys.

We have dog and cat toys all over our house even though I'm always picking them up and putting them in one place. It's a pretty good exercise program for me with the zoo that we have.

Maximus' favorite toy is his "feathers". It's a plastic stick about 2 feet long with 2 feather boa type attachments and feathers at the end. He LOVES that thing. Any time you walk near the drawer where it's kept he's right there! If by some change you manage to get the "feathers" out without him noticing he goes into kitten crazy mode as soon as he sees it! He only gets to play with this toy when i take it out though. As for toys that get left out all day, he like plastic balls with bells, mice (the furrier the better), paper bags and crinkle balls (think christmas present bows scrunched up into a ball). He plays quite a bit for a cat.

Okay, I knew you had kitties named Apollo and Venus, but I DIDN'T know you had kitties named Tigger and Belle.

That explains your DIS name. All this time I assumed your husband was Tigger and you were Belle! :lmao: :lmao:

My two cats don't play with the usual cat toys. They would much rather take the ring that comes off the milk when you open it or the twist ties from bread. They also enjoy my hair ties.

Our cat liked to play with the plastic cap that comes off a syrup bottle. She bats it all over the house for a few minutes - until she loses it somewhere. We hardly ever seem to be able to find them.

For Christmas the cats got, among other things, a banana-shaped catnip toy. They LOVE it - Holly (two years old) will bat it around and lie on her back and kick at it, and Ivy (4 month old kitten) carries it around in her mouth constantly. Just found it under the covers when I made the bed!!!!

They both love little crinkly mice - I have many of those around to step on in the night. And they got these little rubber ball things with some bounce to them - I find them all over, too.

Wish I were so easily amused.....

Tinkerbell will pay with a ball of paper for hours. Talk about a cheap toy.

She doesn't like the balls with the bells but does like the little mice.

Nope. Simon loves to play with my ball of yarn when I'm crocheting or knitting, will roll in catnip like a junkie on crack but only if you scatter it on his blanket and enjoys stalking poor Petey when he least expects it. He has quite a thing for rubber bands, Walmart bags and dead bugs. But store bought toys? He refuses to touch them. And it's not like he doesn't have a huge assortment to choose from

The laser pointer is a hands down fav of all our felines.

Simon aka Fat Cat loves the balls with the bells in them, he will carry them all over the house and have a fit when they go under something he can't get to, which given his girth is a lot of places :lmao: .

Baxter likes the catnip mouse the vet puts in their crates when they go for a visit.

My neighbors cats love pipe cleaners.

The funniest toy habits were from 2 of my kitty angels:

Charlie loved the plastic easter eggs, he would hunt them down, steal them from the basket and when the Big Bunny hid them around the house, we would awake to find candy strewn all over the house and him with a pile of empty eggs that he "found" and was ready to defend! :goodvibes

Milo loved the thick hair scrunchies. He would steal them from my DD's basket of hair stuff and if we let her sleep in a scrunchie he would spend all night sitting on her head trying to figure out how to get it off. Santa finally had to bring him his own scrunchies.
With both Charlie and Milo, we buried them with their fav toys.

I just thought of another one - Q-tips. Our current cat and previous cats have all liked to play with them. They bat them around, carry one end in their mouths, and throw them up in the air, then pounce on them. It's great because if a few get lost, I have a lot more waiting.

Our two cats are spoiled rotten and have three good size baskets full of toys. They each have their favorites though.

Simba has a beanie buddy cat which has been named mama cat and he loves her so much. He also has paw which is a plushy type toy that would vibrate when you pulled the string. Then there is poof. Poof is a ball that used to have sparkly string sticking out of it until Simba stripped it. He also loves all the jingle balls, string, mice, and the plushy craft balls which resemble poofs.

Pooh loves his crinkle balls the best.

Ours only like the used ones and will turn over the garbage can in my bathroom looking for them. Normally it's not too gross, but certain times of the month I try to remember to close the door to the toilet room! :crazy2:

:rotfl2: Maybe we need another "how did you come up with your username" thread that seems to annoy people. :teeth:

Rosalind and Beatrice both love playing with a plastic spoon. Usually it's just one or the other of them attacking it and batting it around the hardwood and tile floors, but every once in a while they play a little "kitty hockey" with the spoon as a puck - it's hysterical to watch them!

Rosalind has a "Dilbert" stuffed doll (about the size of a beanie baby) that was supposed to sit on top of DH's computer, but she adopted "Mr. Dilbert" and carries him around the house like it's her kitten. Mr. Dilbert comes out whenever she's feeling especially sad, so if we leave the house we'll usually find Mr. Dilbert in the place we were last sitting or sleeping. We've also found Mr. D stuffed into a gift bag on the floor, draped over the cat food bowl, in the bathtub, under the blankets on DH's side of the bed, and on the top of the toilet.

Beatrice's favorite toy is the dangly set of 5 leather strands that hung off of their new scratching post/cat perch. She figured out how to take it off of the perch, and she now carries it around the house like Rosalind does with Mr. Dilbert. Bea, however, will suddenly drop her toy and attack it wildly. We've found Beatrice's toy in the dirty laundry basket, in the baby stroller, in her food dish, in a shoe, and under the bath mat. Bea has also now chewed off 3 of the 5 strands, so this toy is quickly getting destroyed. I have no idea what we'll do when it dies!

Stanely's favorite thing to play with is the plastic ring off a gallon of milk. He will play with it all day and carry it everywhere.

My older cat, Sebastian (he's only 3!) lost interest in most cat toys after he grew out of kittenhood. Every now and then I'll find him batting around one of Chloe's toys, but the only thing he really LOVES playing with is a feather hanging on a cord thingie that we can tease him with. He also likes twistie ties, too!

Chloe (who is almost 2) still loves her little furry mice and will "chase" them around the house for hours. She grabs them in her mouth, tosses them up in the air, and then catches them and runs away. If Sebastian wanders anywhere near her while she's playing, she will growl and slink away (they get along fine otherwise!) She's a little terror! :teeth:
