Well we have finally started on the final leg of our kitchen remodel. It isnt on a grand scale at all but we are redoing the floors, the countertops and have painted everything.

I painted a long time ago and now the rest is going to be done in a few weeks!

This what it looked like when we moved in. The blue cabinets were really bad and the hardware was definately original 60's and smack dab in the of the doors :confused3
The floors are in bad shape and the countertops are stained and cut.

I painted the cabinets and the walls so right now it looks like this:

This is the countertop that we chose

this is the new floor that is waiting to be installed!

We are also changing the the backsplash to a faux tin tile like the one on the upper right here:

So my question is what colour should I paint the rest of the walls now. :confused3 the yellow is not going to work obviously. So what should I go with? I am thinking it needs to be bright still but maybe a light beige? What do you think?

Pick one of the colors from the countertop or the tile that you like and use it.

I think I would do a green or green blue.
I like Benjamin Moore Misted Green.
I think you could do a color. Your counter tops, cabinets and tile are fairly neutral.

thanks yeah I was thinking one of those colours in the countertops.

The breakfast room that is adjacent to the kitchen is this

So I really have to watch what I do as far as colours go.

Also, I am going to get rid of the horrible flourescent lights. I am thinking of drywalling those off and having canned lights installed so it will be a little darker in there.

I would go with one of the colors in the countertop as well. It is interesting, because that is the countertop that I also picked out, but since our cabinets are so dark, we are going with a lighter countertop (formica) as well.
A color from the countertop would also go great with the floor color.

I agree about the flourescent lights. Drywall it off, making sure the electric supply is still available and get a neat flush mount ceiling light fixture (that is what we did with our old ceiling level flourescent lighting.

Good luck.

It's going to look great!:thumbsup2 Please post some finished pictures when it's all done! Is the color in the breakfast room different from the kitchen or does it just look darker in the pic?

Don't you just hate that light! I have the same thing in my kitchen! We changed the cabinets & floors in there about 5 years ago & I still haven't figure out what to do with that ugly light!

yes I hate the light lol
I have no idea how to do some of these things but I figure I can learn :)

The breakfast room is almost a mustard colour. It isnt terrible and I really dont want to paint everything.

What about a light rust color? It'll match the counters and won't clash with breakfast nook

I'd choose something close to the greenish accents in the tile to bring that out a little. We have a similar countertop with green walls and it looks very nice.

I forgot to say I liked the color in the breakfast area!

I don't see any green in the tile (on my computer), I think a light rust color is a good idea! It would go nice with everything.

Did you see the other thread about remodeling? Someone had a link with pics of a kitchen that used the tin for a backsplash. I didn't like the color of it, silver, I think the one you've picked will look great!

I didnt see but Ill go and check itout now thanks! :)

They have these at lowes but they arent actually tin. Theyre made of a plastic. Very easy to work with and much cheaper theyre only $18 a square.

Looking at the breakfast room- why not a blue? to tie them in together- it would work with the yellow*mustard...and flow to the painted bench(which I really like by the way!) And the cabinets look great with just a coat of paint!! and a knob change! Great job. I am going to my friend's house on Saturday and she just put up that tin looking tile over her stove- I'll find out what they thought of installation and how it looks ect... I'll post after I see it.

Thanks Java, i will be really interested in hearing how that went for them!
