Hi guys
Is it better to stay in Kissimmee or Orlando? Is there much of a difference? We mainly will stay at the Disney parks, save a day at Universal and maybe an outlet shopping day. Any hints or tips would really be appreciated.

The Disney resorts are in Lake Buena Vista, Fl. Kissiimmee is south of LBV and Orllando is East.

We like to be in the LBV area.

We like staying in the Kissimmee area. It's close to Disney and easy to get around especially if you stay in the western section or around Poincianna. There's lots of restaurants, hotels, shops etc. The new Windsor Hills resort is only 5 - 10 min from Disney and has condos, townhouses and 4 to 6 bedroom pool homes. The resort has a large beautiful pool etc. Go to windsorhillsrent.com for more info. There's also a lot of other places. If you stay on the west end of 192 you can use the Sherberth Rd entrance to Disney ( it takes you right to Animal Kingdom)

Kissimmee is closer to Disney but if you are spending a lot of time at Universal then maybe Orlando make sense, but I am partial to Kissimmee.

I would say Kissimmee, staying just off the 192 you are within easy reach of restaurants, supermarkets, Disney and the I4 for Universal.

I love Kissimmee, too! this is a great place for WDW visit.

as cyberbro mentioned, not so great for Universal/IOA.

LBV would be better if you intend to do both.

Cypress Pointe gets alot of good reviews here.

right now I recommend either of these places - but if no one comes back here and complaints there will be a new recommendation shortly!

As hercamore pointed out, Disney is not in Orlando (even though that's what everyone says). LBV is to the north end of property and Kissimmee is to the south end.

We have stayed in both areas and prefer Kissimmee because there are a lot more choices as well as shopping and dining all along the 192 corridor. But either one is a great choice.

Thanks for the tips! I will have a look in the LBV area to see what sort of accommodation is on offer!

We just got back last night from our first stay in Kissimee. We prefer Lake Buena Vista. There a dozens of excellent accomodations all along Apopka Vineland, within a couple of miles either side of the WDW entrance. We found it very easy to get to all of the Disney Parks and US/IOA from Lake Buena Vista.

Kissimee...not so much.

Hi FayeW,
Did you have a rental car? We won't have a rental as its just me and DFiance who are both under 25 [the expense is too much]
I am a bit worried about being too far away - we were planning to stay at Comfort Suites Maingate East, such great reviews, but if someone can tell me some great LBV suites, I would love to check it out!
TIA :woohoo:

Sorry to be so long responding.

Yes, we did have a rental car. Sheraton Safari has a shuttle that runs fairly frequently, but we didn't use it (we attempted to once, but I forgot something in the room and ran back to get it, and then ended up missing the shuttle!) The Sheraton is great. They have suites but I think they are pretty expensive.

We stayed at Cypress Pointe Grand Villas once, and it was awesome. (But I don't think they have a shuttle). Sheraton's Vistana Resort is also in LBV, and so is Doubletree Resort.

You could go to www.hotelkingdom.com. They have excellent rates, and the discription will tell you if the hotel has free shuttle service. Also, you could consider renting points from a DVC member and staying in a studio onsite. Depending on when you are going, you could get a studio for as low as $80-$90 per night, and then you would get transport to and from the airport as well.

How would I go about renting points from a DVC member? Sorry to be so clueless!

There is a section on this board devoted to DVC. One of the sub-boards is the rent/trade board. I have not rented points yet, but I plan to in the future. I have the info for someone who seems very reputable; I will send you a PM with the info.

Thanks so much for your reply Faye, you have been so helpful!
