A friend mentioned this would be a nice restaurant to go to if we didn't have kids with us one evening. Since that is unlikely, is it a place that's not particularly family friendly? Can men wear dress shorts? Thanks.

It will be fine for kids. They do have a kids menu I believe and have one of the better early bird specials on the island. It would not be my choice for a romantic dinner for two. Email me and I'll try to find their menu and send it to you.

We ate here last year with our 2 kids who were 6 & 11 at the time. Families are welcome and they do have a kids menu. Casual attire is perfectly acceptable. I know DH & I both wore shorts, so did the kids.

We ate there July 2003 and it was good. We had our DS (14). There were also many kids there but it was still at early bird time around 6pm. we had shrimp and DS had salmon. Service and food was good. In the evening they have live music and I beleive it would not be as kid friendly. We would definitely return, but our favorite is Scott's Fish Market. So fresh and wonderful!
DS loves Scott's also.

Thank you both for the quick reply. And thanks for the offer of the menu Dean, but it's not necessary. Whenever anyone tells me anything, or offers advice, I just like to confirm with everyone on these boards because you are all so well informed.

You'll be fine with children.

The Kingfisher is the closest restaurant to the DVC resort and is an easy walk. They have tables with a view of the water and have outside entertainment many evenings over the summer.

They used to have another restaurant upstairs (La Pola, I think was the name) that seemed to be more formal, but that hasn't been open for a couple of years.

Dress at any of the restaurants near the resort is casual.

Enjoy!

We take our kids (DD 8, DS 6) to Kingfisher every time we visit. They love it and we always have a nice meal.

We went, in shorts with the kids. The place was over priced and the service was the worst ever AND the tip was included with the bill.

Skip it.

We just ate there about three weeks ago. We went for the early bird special. It was pretty good (we had shrimp). Our son-in-law had their fish on the early bird special and said it was pretty good.

It was a short walk from Disney's resort to the restaurant. We saw lots of families with kids there. Most wearing shorts/casual dress. Of course, we did go early (around 5:00) and there was no music/entertainment at that time of the day. It might make a difference going in the evening on the atmosphere.

We've eaten at Kingfisher a couple of times while in HH, and probably will never go back. We felt both times that the service was not good, food was not great, and everything was overpriced.

Scott's, directly across the road from Kingfisher is much better, if you still want something within walking distance of the resort. Otherwise, there are LOTS of other options on the island. When you check in at the resort, get a copy of the restaurant guide that has all the menus in it. It's divided out by the type of cuisine.

One of our favorites is Alexander's, in Palmetto Dunes. You pass it on the way to the Disney Beach House. I think you can even take the Palmetto Dunes Buggy there if you don't want to drive. They have an early bird special as well. (Many places do...)

Have a wonderful trip!

Thank you all for the feedback. We'll walk over and take a look and just make a call there and then. I'll check out Scotty's too. Alexanders was mentioned before...I didn't realize it was nearby too (although distance doesn't really matter). I'll post a report with our restarant reviews when we return. Dining can be so subjective! Thanks again!

Have a great time Andrea!!! When are you going?

DH and I went to Kingfisher's in June and I can say unequivocally that I will never go back again. The food was decent; not great but not terrible. I had a spinach-stuffed salmon special and it was good. DH had their regular menu salmon and it was pretty bland. Overall, service was fine and food was fine - overpriced, but fine. My issue was with wheelchair accessibility. Their entrance is ramped and accessible, so I assumed (incorrectly) that the whole restaurant is. They made their steps seem not a big deal by telling us we'd have to go through their back entrance. Fine. We followed the hostess around to the back of the restaurant, down the steepest ramp known to man (glad my DH was there to help), through their GARBAGE DUMP area and through their STINKY kitchen with all their workers staring at us like we were from another planet. Let me tell you, nothing spoils your appetite quite like the smell of rotting food. I'd have been happier if they'd just said, "Sorry, we're not wheelchair accessible" and let us go find somewhere decent to eat. I know this won't affect most people, but for those of you who need accessibility, this is your FYI.

We have the good fortune of living on Hilton Head during the summer months. I would go to Kingfisher, but stick to the early bird special. Another wonderful top-rated place is Stripes, but you'll have to drive to get there. There is also a good mexican restaurant at Shelter Cove (walking distance for you), but right now the name slips my mind. But you can sit outside there on Tuesday night and watch the fireworks.

We leave for HH on Saturday, arriving Sunday. I'm pretty excited because we haven't been there in over 2 years. We're traveling with my sister and her family and my son is looking forward to showing his cousins around. Thanks for posting info on wheelchair accessibility. It will not affect us this trip, but since my FIL is in a wheelchair and MIL uses a cane, I will file this info in for future visits. Thank you all for your opinions.
