My daughter has an iPad. One of the techs where she works (DD is a pharmacist) asked about it because her ten year old wants a iPad to play games on. She had no idea what they cost and said she didn't see how she could afford that for a ten year old.

My daughter told her that she might want to look at a Kindle Fire. I have one, but I don't play games on it. I told my daughter that I would ask here because y'all know everything! :cheer2:

Love my Kindle Fire.....and so does my DGD9. She plays games such as Angry Birds, Uno, Scrabble, and various other games on it. I have also purchased a few movies for her which she watches over and over again. There's also a number of books on it, some of them are hers. I went with the Fire bc I already have a laptop. The Fire fit my needs and budget....:thumbsup2

If she gets her the newest Fire, she can use Freetime on it. It is a free app that is basically parental control. She can put it in the freetime mode and the DD can only have access to the content the mom wants. She will not be able to get out onto the internet or buy anything. It takes a password to exit the app.

Just sent your reply to my daughter to share with the tech. That's exactly what she's looking for! :thumbsup2

Interesting to know. I'll tell her. I had thought the old Fire would save her some money, but that will give her something to think about. Thanks! :goodvibes

My now DS10 and DD12 got their kindle fires a year ago (ages 9 & 11) and they LOVE them!! Plenty of great games....plus movies, books, etc. Cant go wrong for less than 1/2 the price of an ipad!!

The Fire sounds like the way to go. When she texted me and asked, I told her that I was sure it would be more than adequate for what he wants, but I wanted recommendations from people who actually have children using it. :thumbsup2

I was just looking on Amazon.com at Kindle Fire HD $199. and the Kindle fire @ $159. Grandson 16 wants one, I think I'm going to get him the HD for Christmas. I read an article that said to wait and see if Amazon will offer a bundle with the card. I hate to wait and possibly miss out if this is going to be a hot seller. They said something about best buy might have a bundle but it was best to get it at Amazon if they have the same deal.

I'll pass that information on. The more you get, the better. :)

As far as the HD goes, I know when I pre-ordered my Fire, I was concerned about them selling out, but it didn't happen.
