Kinder Surprise Egg Questions in Ports

I thought the problem was that you can't have a toy inside of food in the US not the size of the toy!

Technically, yes. The official FDA ban is against having a toy inside candy. But the ban is based on the choking hazard, and particularly the concern of small parts and candy for children under age 3.

If you can find them in port, eat them there. I don't know if there would be a problem bringing them back onto the ship but they could be confiscated returning to the U.S.

Enjoy your cruise!

My son also loves these YouTube videos..I honestly just thought they were easter eggs..lol. the Cuban bakeries here in Miami sell these fruit cakes for three kings day and they put toys inside! Little ones not in a plastic ball!

I have 2 boxes of Disney Kinder eggs, one Mickey and Friends and the other Fairies. I'm in the US and would be happy to send to someone...if that's legal? Message me if you're interested!

I just messaged you. We live in the same town too! Lol

We have them in Canada. Perhaps you could find a fellow cruiser from here that would be willing to bring some along for you.

They can't legally bring them to the US cruise port.

In America, we have to protect people from swallowing giant eggs inside of candy that is clearly marked that there is a toy inside because someone might sue the manufacturer, but we feed our children chemicals and genetically modified foods laced with all sorts of poisons and that is completely legal. Its because money talks in our government. Disgusting. Sorry, I went on a rant.

Exactly.

The hard plastic egg inside the chocolate shell is ginormous. The toy is inside of that, and the egg is HARD to open.

OK I was just watching a youtube, and I don't know if the ones we get in Canada are mutants or if the ones she was opening are mutants...the ones we get have HARD plastic, and there's a little tab that you have to somehow get a good hold on and rip it open, and then it's still not easy to get open. She's getting some weird soft and squishy plastic eggs inside. Not sure if that's a princess/hello kitty vs normal KinderSurprise or Canada vs elsewhere thing, but it's a difference.

OK now I'm in mental pain. There's a picture of the hard plastic egg on the Customs website; so they know what they look like, but still we're supposed to fear the choking factor.

My pictures to show the size. Thin chocolate, and huge egg inside. My son would have been around 7, he has a big mouth, but still, there's no way he could accidentally choke on that egg. (and we've never gotten much but stickers and paper things inside, not the cool Frozen Trolls on the videos) The first picture looks like he could get it into his mouth, but by the time he reaches the middle of the chocolate it would be too big. And he would quickly realize that there's a big plastic thing in there, LOL.

It's not legal for you to have them here. Doubt it's legal for you to ship it. Of course, it's all about getting caught, I suppose.

Love kinder surprise and my kids do to....I never knew they were illegal in the States....hmmm you learn something new everyday

:tinker:When I read the FE idea I instantly got so happy and then was sad immediately realizing that they would be likely confiscated at the border... what a horrible experience to have to destroy them in front of your child... sheesh... when we buy them Cozumel we will open and eat one on behalf of everyone here! :flower3:

Funny how things work. We always want what we can't have. I think Canadian Disney cruisers might give up Kinder Surprise eggs to be able to book cruises through Costco travel or to be able to order those comfy DCL pillows!

DS will ask for one every once in a while at the store and picked out a Kinder egg Advent calendar for his sister. In all honesty, the Kinder chocolate isn't all that good, give me Lindt or Milka any day. :) We have all kinds of Kinder egg "surprises" floating around our house.

I would trade 20 Kinder eggs for some good ole American salsa and some crunchy peanut butter. I forgot about a good ole cheeseburger too. I would want a cheeseburger too....;)

great thread!
I assume its OK to have them on a Disney ship in Europe and that this isn't governed by US law, as I totally agree with a previous poster that this is a great FE idea.
Living in the UK these are one of my daughters favourite, yummy chocolate and added bonus of a toy!
Gillian.

My son loved the Kinder eggs when he was younger. My husband used to bring them back from Italy all of the time up until my son outgrew them 5 years ago. Glad I did not know about a fine then. As cute as they are, there is no way that I would consider risking a fine which could be as high as $2,500.00 per egg.. A fine for 2 eggs would pay for a cruise.. Yikes..However, they do carry something similar here in the US now called Choco Treasure. The Kinder chocolate is way better but if you are wanting good chocolate then you should have someone from overseas bring you Milka or Cadbury.. Yum..

Oh my daughter won't eat chocolate, she just LOVES the idea of the surprise and the opening of them. She's watched so many of those videos, they are a novelty to her and a mystery because she's never seen one in real life. lol

Wow.....I had no idea they were illegal in the US. They are a huge hit here in Canada. My kiddies love having the Christmas Kinder advent calendars. They have only one large egg in them, but the remaining days are filled with smaller eggs (no toy) and little Kinder chocolate bars. I have never heard of a child choking on an egg or toy...... Plus I think the chocolate is yummy too!

Lisa

In Canada you buy them anywhere chocolate bars are sold. In ports I would imagine it's the same. I wouldn't risk bringing them into the U.S. I've heard there are fines if you are caught with them. They aren't the best tasting chocolate but the kids like them for the cheap toys.

This is also the country where there are labels on lawn mowers telling you to not trim your hedges and that the blades are sharp.... Somewhere, sometime, someone who should have won a Darwin award.

These chocolates are cute, I had never heard of them. Now, I am going to have to look for them!

We bought them in the Vancouver airport this past May and brought them home in our carry-on bags.
