Kim's new and improved life journal!

Thanks, Amy! Not that you'll have time on your hands or anything...but I think you can watch the BB episodes online. So if that insomnia kicks in...:rolleyes1

Yes, Jenny Lynne...I miss ya.

I'm going to see Hairspray with Em, my sister and my mom shortly. CAN'T WAIT!! :cool1:

Hi Kim,

Great job with your exercise Saturday. I hope you had a nice time at the movie. That is one I would like to see, but we never seem to make it to movies anymore.

Have a great evening,
Beth

Hi Kim,

Great job getting that run in! I knew you could do it!:thumbsup2 You are doing such a great job....Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

How was Hairspray?:dance3:

Hope you have a great Tuesday!

Hey all! First of all....Hairspray was AWESOME!!! Nothing that DD8 couldn't handle (she had some questions about segregation afterwards, and we had a long conversation about being open minded and being friends people who are nice, no matter the color of their skin) and we LOVED the music. I bought the soundtrack today :cool1: while I was at the store getting the High School Musical 2 soundtrack for DD. John Travolta was INSANELY hysterical in the movie. :rotfl2:

Second.....I ran tonight. I just can't get myself out of bed in the mornings anymore. Not sure why...I'm going to bed the same time I used to when I DID get up & out early. :confused3 Anyway, I waited til DH got home from work & then went out for a run around 8pm. Gotta say...I'm not a night-time runner. :guilty: Physically I felt good and ran 2 miles in 21.27. But my mind just goes crazy. There are a lot of woods where I run, and I get nervous in the dusk-like time of day that "something/someone" could just pop out & get me. So I don't think I'll run at 8pm too often, but I felt good and got the miles in - so I'm happy with that. :thumbsup2

Thanks so much to all of you guys. I couldn't do this without you.

Hi Kim
Well done for getting the awesome runs in :)
We are watching the UK BB too!!! Its addictive isnt it!!
Is the US one good, i will have to look online for it
When we were in the Maldives they were showing African BB!!
Can you send some motivation my way plz???

Hey Tracey - WELCOME BACK!!! I'll stop by your journal to see how your trip was. I'm betting it was GREAT!! :goodvibes

I argue with my inner-self all the time on whether or not to work out or run. So I don't know if I'm a great source of inspiration or not. But get yourself back to your gym and your bums & tums class and I bet it'll get you groovin' again! :cool1:

I don't know if it's my inner-self or one of my other personalities that I argue with.... :confused3

Marie, you are too funny!:rotfl2:

Kim,

Great job getting your running in! Keep it up, girl!:cheer2:

I'm glad to hear that you liked Hairspray.:goodvibes

Hope you have a good weekend!

I don't know if it's my inner-self or one of my other personalities that I argue with.... :confused3

You said what I was "thinking".

I'm disappointed I only ran once during the week, and never went to the gym either (we had water issues at work - testing found Ecoli in the water, and I wasn't willing to shower in it :scared: ) But as of y'day it's all clear so I'll be back in the gym this week. :thumbsup2

I did run this morning. B-E-A-utiful (line from one of DD's favorite movies:rotfl: ). The weather was in the 60's with a slight breeze. I ran what I thought would be a 3 and 1/2 mile course but it ended up being 4 miles exactly. My time was 46.07, which is GREAT. I had to walk for 4 minutes at the 1.75 mile mark, but once I started running again - I felt really, really good. :thumbsup2

The part of running I'm struggling with is keeping a certain pace. When I started today, I was at 11.15 mpm. Which is probably where I should be at this point. But the next time I looked at my garmin (probably right around 1 mile) it said 9.54!! So I slowed down again and found myself around 12 mpm. It's just hard, I guess since the course is hilly. But I really think that 9.54 caused me to have to walk. If I had stayed around 11 mpm I think I could have kept on running at that pace. Amy & Scott - you are my "professional" running buddies - any suggestions? I'd love to have my long-ish runs slower than my regular runs, but at this point I can't seem to keep any pace for any run.

I'm going out for a few drinks with Janine tonight. :yay: Tomorrow I'm having a birthday barbque for BIL's g/f and Dneice tomorrow night. :thumbsup2

Have a great weekend, all!

Have one....or three for me tonight!!!

Great job on the runs!! I think I might have found a course....gonna test it out tomorrow. Only one problem...no sidewalks...:confused3

Hi Kim,

Good job getting out there today. I have to say that the 60's sounds great to run in. It was brutal here this am. Phew...forgot how tough that Florida humidity is! :scared:

As for your pace, first of all don't get too caught up in it....just run what feels comfortable to you. You should not be breathng hard and should be able to carry a conversation. Try hard not to keep looking at the garmin. It's one of the tough things with having one. I realized that today when I was wearing the garmin for my run down here (I don't wear it much anymore). It's so easy to get caught up in checking your pace and distance. Try to just do the run based on feel and I think you'll find that the pace will develop more naturally that way.

Good luck with your workouts this week. :)

Amy

Hi Kim,

Fantastic job on the runs. You said you weren't comfortable with the evening runs. That made me wonder, do you carry a cellphone on your runs? Sorry, I'm a mom.

Have fun this weekend.
\Beth

Finally getting caught up. Your runs have been GREAT, Kim!

Evening runs.....I think you need a BIG dog!!!!! Stay safe!!!

Hey guys!

Amy - thanks so much. You're right - I should just wear a regular watch on the days that I'm going on a route I've done before (and know how far the distance is). Then I won't be concerned about pace. Be careful out there in the FL heat! :thumbsup2

Marie - hope your run went well! Most of the courses that I run don't have sidewalks, but they do have clearly marked shoulders on the road. Be safe, girle! :goodvibes (oh, and I was the driver, so I had one for me and one for you last night :upsidedow )

Beth - you make an excellent point. The only thing I currently bring with me on my runs is my garmin and my mp3 player. I bought pepper spray back when I first started running in early 2006, and I haven't ever taken it out of the packaging. (another  ). But I should at least bring my cell with me. I have an arm band thingy, so I will get that out & put my phone in it in the future. (isn't it funny how us moms worry about everyone else, but not ourselves?)

Julie - Dog? nah, I cannot possibly take care of anyone else right now. But I know what you mean. I need to either completely avoid the late night runs or take better precautions so that I don't run in fear.

I had a GREAT time last night. It was good to just hang and chitchat with Janine for a while. Today's dinner went well and I'm completely exhausted. Back to work tomorrow....:headache:

Hey there Kim!

Great job with the increased mileage...4 milers are really solid and it's nice to see you upping that distance :)

As far as the whole Garmin/mpm thing...I use just a regular HR monitor watch (Timex Ironman) and just log my mile splits. I'm with Amy on just finding a pace that suits you...find something that is comfortable to run, that you can carry on a convo, and you feel like you don't have to walk...do NOT look at that pace all of the time, only record those mile splits. Be comfortable with whatever it says and then do the same thing the next week....what you want to see is a very gradual increase in mpm speed..some runs will be faster, some slower...but the overall average should get faster over time.

Most importantly, go at a pace in which you can HAVE FUN out there!! If you don't enjoy what you are doing, you won't do it as much.

I still encourage you to throw a race into the mix...a 5k or 10k...something to shoot for...those runs become so much more important when there is an end goal in mind ;)

Have a good week!

Hi Kim,

I am so glad to hear that you had a good time the other night. You definately deserved one, and those 2 drinks.;)

I asked about the cell phone, not only for safety from others, but injury. MY DH fell in Feb. while walking the dog. He had a compound fracture that required surgery. He had no cell with hime. It was 15 minutes before someone stopped to help him. I was not expecting him home for another 30 minutes. Just something to think about for all of us.

I hope work is treating you well.

Take care,
Beth

OMG Beth!! Same thing happened to my DH!! He went running and severely sprained his ankle (had to wear a boot for a month!!) He basically had to crawl home!! (not a busy street at all!!)

ok...Kim...glad you had fun the other night!! Wish I could've been there to have one for me!!
Keep up the running girl...you are doing great!!

Oh, and are you ready to trade DD yet??? Mine is wearing me down....

ree :hourglass

OK, guys. You've convinced me to bring my cell with me now.

superScott - thanks for checking in. I appreciate your encouragement. I know you are a busy, busy man. :goodvibes I'm gonna take your advice and sign up for a race. My sister and I were gonna do one in July, but she had to back out. This time, I'm signing up and I'll go with her or without her. :thumbsup2

Hey Beth and Ree Ree. I'm so glad you have you girls in my life. Sometimes I need the sense knocked into me.

Oh, and I made it down to the gym today (after a LONG fight with my inner/other self) and wouldn't you know I forgot to pack my stinkin' SNEAKERS. :scared: Can't go to the gym at lunch tomorrow, so I'll either get up & go running in the am or I'll run tomorrow after my hair appointment (around 7). I'll look so good out there sweating in my new hairdo. :rotfl:
