Kim, great job on your weight loss journey, you did great! Thanks for visiting my journal and keeping me inspired. I cannot ever imagine weighing 120 (at this point 220 would be astounding :) ) Way to work hard for what you want. and thank you again for cheering me on! :cheer2:

Hi Allison!

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Monday everyone!

First of all.... This is for all you runners out there... :worship: Running is sooooo hard!

I started day 1 of my 5K training today. I'm following John Galloway's plan, but had to alter the days a little. I will be running Mon, Wed & Sat, with cross training Tues, Thurs and Sun. Friday will be my day off.

Today, according to the plan was run 15-20 minutes. I ran/walked 16 minutes...so I did it! I did 3 mins run/1 min walk. It kicked my tush!!! On my way to dropping DD to school I measured with my car & it was 0.5 miles each way...so that was a 16 minute mile. At this point I am sooo proud that I did it. I didn't cheat & stop running early or walk longer than a minute. I actually did it, and my legs are reminding me!!!

Today was also home weigh-in day. 118.5 - down 0.5 from last Monday...so that's cool!

I'm officially going on maintenance with Nancy as of Thursday. I am so happy with the loss I've had, and am ready to concentrate more on the toning & getting into shape aspect of my transformation. Not to mention that I'm getting hungry more often now. I don't know if that has anything to do with hitting a certain weight, or the amount of exercise I've been doing. But either way...I need to learn the healthy way to maintain my weight. It's a 4 week process of phasing certain foods in, and I'm excited about it.

Hey great job on the run and the weight loss (again!!)! I thought running was difficult at first as well, but am getting used to it after a month :) I really think that the crosstraining helps a BUNCH....what sort of cross training will you be doing?

Also, what kind of scale do you have? Yours seems to be right in line with your nutritionists and I'm looking to get a better one than I have, I don't think it is that accurate or reliable.

Keep up the awesome job!

Thanks guys! I appreciate your support! :thumbsup2

For crosstraining, I was going to alternate the eliptical and cardio kickboxing, as well as doing abs on my crosstraining days. Hopefully that's good enough. I have hand weights, I think they're 5 pounds...so I could do some arm work too. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure about my scale. It's pretty old. It has it's moments when it goes haywire (in 3 attempts, 3 different weights)...but for the most part it works well. We've actually been thinking about getting a newer scale that shows body fat too. I'll check out the scale & let you knw what we have.

Thanks for the encouragement! I really appreciate it. :teeth:

Congrats on 118.5! Wow! That's AWESOME!

Keep up the great work!

:thumbsup2 :cheer2: Way to go on your first run Kim! That is so wonderful! You got out there and you did it! It definitely gets easier...I PROMISE :).

And how wonderful that you're heading into maintenance. You should be so proud of yourself...I know I'm super proud of you!!! And the increase in exercise will definitely make you hungry. Remember that running 1 mile burns approximately 100 calories. Kickboxing and Elliptical burn lots of calories too....make sure you account for that :).

Best of luck as you continue your running....you know we'll be here to support. :cheer2:

Great job on the running.....it's tough at first, then you get used to it. keep up the great workouts!!
let us know about the scale....i've been thinking about getting a new one, but dh says ours is fine....we'll see!
also, thanks again for the well wishes on my journal...i appreciate it.

Morning all...(sorry I forgot to check out my scale :rolleyes2 )

I ran again today. Pretty much felt the same as Monday, although I did make it a little further. I had to add an extra minute of walking before my last run to help control my breathing, but besides that...I did it!! Here's how it worked out: (w=walk, r=run)

w1/r3/w1/r3/w1/r3/w2/r3/w1 = 18 minutes

I'm not completely happy with my MP3 player while I'm running. Back when DH got it for me at Valentine's Day, I really liked it. I thought it was GREAT for the money, and great for what I needed it for. The downside to not getting an ipod, is that I can't group my songs together. Like, I can't pick certain songs just for workouts. So my slow and fast songs are all intermingled (is that a word?). So I feel like I enjoy having the music in my ears while I run, but when the slow songs come on, I break my concentration to fiddle with the MP3 player to find a better song. I may just delete the slow songs off for now and see how that goes. I have them all saved in my laptop, so if I wanted them back on it's easy enough...but I think that might be my only option right now (since I don't want to go get an ipod & spend that money). Sorry, that was a long vent!!!

Also, I'm calling my doctor today about my feet. I'm sure he's going to send me to a podiatrist. I'm not sure what they're called, but on both feet, I have what I refer to as a "rock" inside my foot on the ball of my foot. They are each between 1-2 inches and have progressively been causing me more pain. I can't walk on the tile floor in just socks anymore...and my eliptical and running workouts just KILL!! So, I figure, since I'm at the beginning of all of this & still have plenty of time before the 5K, I'm gonna get them checked out, in case something needs to be done to my feet. I hope I haven't grossed anyone out...if you have any experience with this, please let me know what they are & what the dr. might do!!

Thanks, guys - and have a GREAT hump day!!

Hi - thought I would stop by! Great job on the running....that's one thing I don't care for but when I did it I lost weight fast! I've only done about 4 5k's and there is nothing like the high you get when crossing the finish line!!

hi kim
great job on gettinmg out and running again even though you were sore!!
no clue about the feet--BUT GO TO THE DR :)

Great job on the running!! It's hard to keep up the 3r/1w pace but you did it and should be proud of yourself!!

good luck with the feet....make sure you get to the doctor....better to cure a problem now than to make it worse by running on them!!

Ok, I'm officially on maintenance!! woo hoo!

I weighed in with Nancy, and lost another pound this week. I'm at 117 on her scale. She said I'll probably continue to lose during the 4 week weight stabilization phase.

Week 1 of maintenance reintroduces dairy. I've been able to have a small amount of skim milk or fat free cheese, but now I must have one serving of dairy every day.

I can also now have any veggie or fruit, as long as they are not canned. And there are some restrictions on which ones I cannot have on the same day, which is ok with me (I'm having CARROTS with dinner tonight!! who knew that would excite me??!!)

I called the podiatrist and couldn't get in to see him until April 24th. So that stinks. Anyone have any idea of what I could do to ease the pain (especially during workouts) until then? Would shoe inserts from CVS help at all? I'll try anything.

Oh, and I finally checked out my scale. I don't know if they even make these anymore (it's probably 7-8 years old), but it's a Health O Meter (sounds fancy, huh? ;)). It's served it's purpose for a long time now. But we are in the market for a new scale with more bells & whistles.

Hope you all are having a great day, and thanks so much for checking in with me. I couldn't do all this or keep going without your support & encouragement!!
