Kill Joy's

I grew up with parents like that. I was told it was all ridiculous and the castle isn't even real anyway, it is just a board propped up with a picture of the castle on it. I prepared for our first cruise in 2003 and we added on a day at MK at the last minute to see how the kids liked it. I was 36 and as we walked up main street towards the castle I looked up and it hit me that it was an actual structure and I started to cry. Thankfully, our kids have grown up much more experienced with Disney than I was.

If someone told me they would never go to Disney because it's Disney I would tell them what my DS did at age 8 when a classmate told him the characters were not real -- "I feel sorry for you because you don't have the magic in your heart!"

Good for him!!! You raised him right!!!

Kill joy's really do suck! I have an acquaintance that says the same thing: OMG, how much is this cruise costing you? Or, did you see the price just went up for MK, there's no way I'm going to take the kids now.

I'm all about getting a good deal & BOGO but this person takes it to the next level.

When there's a will there is a way & for me like many of you here, I feel complete being able to give my kids a vacation, on DCL or WDW & to me that's what life's all about.

Who cares about the cost right, better enjoy it today because we might not get tomorrow ;)

I was in the MK with a group I was co-chaperoning. There were several girls who had never been before, so we were doing some things that newbies should do. One of the girls asked if we could ride Small World. One of the other chaperones shouted out quickly--and loudly--"NO!" People stopped to look at her and she was embarrassed but the other girl was even more embarrassed and never asked to ride it again the whole trip we were there. It was so sad!!!!!

I LOVE THIS!!! Your son sounds like a very smart little boy!

Hey now, he said that to a fellow 8 year old? When the other 8 year old was telling the absolute truth? And you're cool with that?

I think you are taking her statement a little too literally. I don't think her son actually thought the characters were real. The way I interpreted it is that he was referring to the "magic of Disney"...you know, the pixie dust.:tinker:

As much as I love Disney myself...and all of the magic...for me now, at the age of 42, I get more joy in seeing my DD4's eyes when we go on the cruise or the parks.

It makes the cost worth it beyond any thoughts...

Cuuuute!!!!! (Picture cute, it didnt copy lol)

I hope you rethink being OK with him saying that to another child. Who, again, was telling the truth.

See the title of this thread.

See I'm confused by that. I never, never ever grew up thinking the characters were REAL. I mean, I knew mermaids didn't exist (and that our grandma sewed us our own tails at age 6...guess the tails started early! ha) and that there was a real singer singing the songs with us. It didn't change the fact that I LOVED seeing them. It hasn't changed today either. I get the same thrill in the Belle's storytime that puts you right in the same room with her and she stops and talks to you! I don't care that it's an actress. She is lovely and well trained and her giant golden ball gown is awesome.

Never ever believed in Santa or Easter bunny either (that is because we personally chose not to participate in those activities) but I don't understand kids thinking an animated character like Tigger is real? That thought never occurred to us. I still think it's neat to see a glowing light flying around representing 'tinkerbell'. I like the technology that is just like going to magic show and 'seeing' the illusion. I know it's not Tink, but I still love it.

We all have a bit of fancy in us. The 'magic' comes from the imagination, like the lil guy put it, the 'magic in your heart' and that is what allows us to imagine that these guys ARE really Belle and Pooh, even when we know they aren't. Who cares? It's just awesome.

If I wanted a dose of reality, I would just stay home and watch CNN (oh wait, that's not really reality either :p ) point being I like fantastic vacations that take you into another happy place.

This week I had to go to the doctor's and get something very unfun cut out. Boo. I spent the entire time ignoring the fact that he was digging around in my flesh and instead talking to the assistant about all our cruises and ports and CCLs vs DCLs. It worked really well. I was missing her yesterday when he had to repack it and I wasn't numb this time. :( I just kept telling myself "I'm on a cruise, I'm on a beach" (you know the song.)

Reality isn't that fun. Dressing up like princesses and mermaids and pirate wenches and tiaras and singing Disney songs and seeing many lil cute glitter princesses everywhere and just the SMELL of it, you just KNOW you are there and there is nothing like it. I don't frankly care of other people like it or not. But they dont need to get down on me for liking it. It is truly OUR family tradition. Some families have ski trips to the mountains. We have Disney.

Our happy family will be there in May! No kids in our group, but we are all kids at heart.

P.s. is anyone else completely floored that the Electrical Parade hasn't changed a bit since we were kids? One morning after our trip, I woke up to the beedy digital song, (my honey had put it on downstairs and turned it up so I would hear it) and it was the happiest morning alarm song I have ever heard!

The entire song for the electrical parade can be downloaded as a ringtone so you can use it as your alarm or phone ringtone. It's available on this forum actually.

My DH's ringtone is the song from the Peter Pan ride. Mine is the song from the Pirates ride.

Oh.. well as far as ringtones go, I have that already set up..

Any caller not in my ID is automatically Ariel. Yup. Shocking, I know.

My Honey is "A whole new world". Makes sense for him and I.

My Twinkie is Reflection (Christina style) obviously! She is my reflection, yeah!

My older dark haired sis is Pocahontas.

But I may have to nab the Electrical Parade for my Alarm clock. It's just such a happy cheery song, how can you beat it? I'm NOT a parade fan, but this year, with our base tickets (meaning we couldn't hop any way so why not enjoy the scenery) we got to see the Elect Parades and I must say I have fallen back in love with it!

LOL, I need more Disney ring tones, but I'm so stuck on my DCL horn tone!!!!

BLECH! I know a lot of people hate on Disney, but that's just a rude response no matter where you said you were going.

glad I got that off my chest and know I'm not alone. You guys rock. DISNEY 4 LIFEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.:cool1::cool1:

That story made me a little bit weepy.

My best friend is very anti-Disney. She teases me all the time about how often we have been there. Now that we have taken our first Disney cruise (and booked two more thankyouverymuch) she teases me about how we've become Disney cruise people. I think some people really just don't get it and sometimes when people don't get something they can be a little rude about it.

I will say thought that it seems often times when someone is really anti-Disney they have a story to go along with it. Often the story goes along the lines of "I went there in August 5 years ago. It was 110 out. We got to the park about noon and then waited in line for Space Mountain for two hours. Then we waited for two hours for Splash Mountain. We were all so tired after that that we went back to the hotel. I spent $200 on pop." Heck, if I took a vacation like that I would probably hate it too! Oh well, if those people never go back - better prepared and better informed - then there are shorter lines when I go! :thumbsup2

Is it me or do hate when someone ask's you "Where are you taking the Family for vacation?" you reply Disneyworld or on a Disney Cruise and pure hate comes out their mouths??? Lady on my job told me "I WOULD NEVER TAKE MY KIDS THERE I DON'T CARE HOW MANY TIMES THEY ASK" So I say WHY she thinks and say cause it's Disney. SMH so you would deny your kids the joy they ask for CRAZY. sorry had a soapbox moment.

she's just jealous!

ITA, I live in Md. too, and the same people that go to Ocean City every summer(more than once some of them)knock the fact that we do Disneyworld or cruises every year. It's our money, we also visit other places, but they always just say stuff about Disney. Most of them have never even left Md!!!!

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I can't even begin to tell you how many people I seem to get the scowling from that we're going to Disney AGAIN, that are the same people that spend twice as much as we do, just to go to the beach every. single. year. but like to try to convince me there are other places in the world I should be visiting. I get that OC is local, but it cost you more than it cost me many times, and that's even if I figure in air fare!
