I've only ridden this once and it was 6 years ago (we skipped AK on our honeymoon 3 years ago!) so I don't really remember. Is the ride ok, fun, worth the wait for our 18 month DD? She is not really into animals-and she won't get the storyline. Just want some opinions! Thanks!

--- SPOILERS FOR THE RIDE ---

We took our 13 month DN on the safari several years ago, and he was much too young to appreciate it. There's a big difference between 13 months and 18 months though, for many children. However, we learned the hard way that day that DN's mother doesn't appreciate being surprised about the bridge shaking under the truck while she's holding her son in her arms. Be forewarned!

As far as safety--it is completely safe once your baby has head control. I don't recall when we took our youngest---I want to say she was less than 12 months.

I do not think it is appropriate for small babies though as it is very bumpy.

At 18 months...your child is big enough to occupy a seat....if they want.

I think its a great ride and would want to do it.

I think at 18 months, the baby would be fine to ride it, maybe even enjoy the "ride" without seeing too many animals.

I'd do it. :)

We took out 7 month old daughter at the time and all that motion put her to sleep. She will be about 12 months on this trip and she LOVES to look at animals so I am excited to take her !

Thanks for all the tips! She loves rides-we take her to the boardwalk and a small local amusement park-so I am not worried about the bumpy. I just couldn't remember how bumpy it was! I think we may try it!

We took DS#2 on the ride at both 7 months and 15 months. At 7 months, of course, he could have cared less--actually nursed through part of it. At 15 months, he didn't care about the story line (neither did I), but he LOVED the animals and just looking around at the scenery and being on a tram ride.

I, personally, didn't think it was that bumpy--I even rode it ~6 months pregnant. My kids never seem to have a problem with it either.

I am old enough (and then some :rotfl2: ) to know that disney rides would not put me in harm's way but I am glad that I read this spoiler. I will now know what to expect incase I am holding my wiggling 2yr when the bridge starts to shake

I went on this in jan 2002, my back was sore due to an attack of kidney stones the night before. The driver we had, made it a point to hit every bump and send me flying (sitting near the back) even while I was literally screaming out in pain. He was laughing the whole time.
I left that ride, crying and he was laughing. Not a pleasant experience. I will not be riding it this time for any reason.

Ohh GOODIE!!!! Somebody beat me to asking this question!

Animal Kingdom is my all time favorite Disney park and I want to sooooo badly take my DS on this ride! He will be 12 months old when we go and he loves to people watch and animal watch. I think he will love it, but was worried the CM's wouldn't let him on yet till I read someone took a 7 month old on.

Did anyone taking a small baby on encounter "child abuse" looks from other riders??? Just curious :earboy2:

I took my son to a public pool last weekend and people were looking at me like I was nuts. I was just wading in the shallow end letting his feet get wet, not dunking him under or anything! Sheesh!

I LOVE those looks! Totally off-topic but another mother in a grocery store actually made a comment at the grocery store b/c I put my daughter in the cart without one of those "germ" protectors! She was "shocked"!!!!

Have fun on the safaris!

You mean you don't use a germ protector on the grocery shopping carts??? I'm calling CPS right now! Oh where do you live?

Nope! AND I let my daughter eat food that has fallen on the floor for longer than 5 seconds! Egads! How will she go on? Can I pre-pay her thearapy bill now?

This was the only ride that i did ride while pregnant that advised me not to, i had been on it only 1.5 years before so knew it was only bumping and though it would be fine, i was about 5 months pregnant and had my 20 month old on my lap, this time we will ride it again, you can't beat the photos you get form it! :) I will have my 12 month old, my 3y/o and 5y/o! :)

How rough the ride is depends on your driver. Sometimes, the ride isn't very rough at all. However, our last driver this past weekend really started and stopped quickly, making for a very jerky ride. It was a blast for adults but would be pretty scary for little ones.

Took all 3 of ours on it when they were about 24 months, really didn't think it was that bumpy, you should be fine with a 18 month old.

Why would anyone be looking at you for taking your son into a pool? :confused3 Is there some new medical alert about taking kids' into pools? I sure hope not, mine have been in our pool since they were born.

Yikes, maybe I should be cleaning up the house for that visit from social services that's bound to come
