Kids too old?

At the last minute I've just purchased the special 10 day Disney tickets, the kind lady who took my booking was very excited for us especially about the Character breakfast being included and that we'd better hurry up and make a PS. I couldn't share her excitement as a vision of my six foot 17 year old son sitting there with a "Kevin and Perry" look on his face filled me with dread. I can still recall his embarrassed look as Minnie flirted with him at Chef Mickeys on our last trip.
We've never bothered with the Character breakfast previously and when we've been at the parks for early entry it always seemed to be younger families with pushchairs going into the restaurants.
Should I bother and if so where would you recommend?

I know all teenagers are different BUT when I took my boys 2 years ago to a character breakfast they were then 11 and 13. Although they didn't want to go, the Disney magic did take them over and eventually they join in with everything even the napkin waving!! They had loads of pictures taken and loved it eventhough they would never admit it now.

However this year we are going back and they are now 13 nd nearly 16 (my16 yr old is 6ft 5!!) and I wouldnt dream of taking them to a character breakfast Actually I use it as a threat and tell them if they don't behave I'll make them go to one

seriously though it depends on whether deep down he would love it but the 'Kevin' in him won't admit it or would he really really hate it. It's hard to fathom out these teenagers isn't it

Last October we had a character breakfast at Breakfastasaurus at AK. My two boys at the time were 10 and 15 (going on 28) however my eldest boy swears that the character interaction was one of the highlights of the holiday, and he also is a big lad 6' 4" and 16.5 stone and gothic as they come. Goofy seemed to take a shine to him so I ended up being chief cameraman for the morning.
Anyway take them along it's a great laugh.

Does it have to be a character breakfast? I've never had these tickets but you have effectively paid for a breakfast when you buy them so could you perhaps use them somewhere else?

Simply ask your son what he would like to do. Emphasise the food and locations more than the character aspect. There are some great WDW resorts to visit and most do a decent breakfast. Cape May at the Beach Club is nice and maybe afterwards you could rent one of those little speedboats for an hour??? That sort of thing would probably be quite appealing to a teenager and maybe enough to convince him to smile when Minnie flashes her eye lids at him .

We have opted to go to Boma as there are no characters - my DS (11) would be mortified if he had to interact with them. Unfortunately he was too shy, even at the age of three, when the characters approached him - he's ok with them at a distance, but not when they make a fuss.

If your son would prefer not to have a character meal, there are several restaurants to choose from without characters.

We have a 16 yr old 6ft 1in boy who is wonderful with his younger disabled brother (12 yr old).

DS2 loves all the characters & interaction therfore, DS1 helps his brother & joins in at Character Breakfasts etc. with him.

For next month's trip we've made PS's for 3 character beakfasts @ CRT, 1900 Park Fayre & Chef Mickeys plus 2 Character dinners @ 1900 Park Fayre & LTT. Might even add one more dinner at CM!

my six foot 3 inch, 17 year old son is with yours.....
just say "character breakfast" to him and he cringes....

he used to love them when he was younger, but now....he'll tolerate it but nothing more....

nevertheless, having said that, i think i would still do it if it were part of my package...

we've never done the cinderella's castle one, but it sounds like fun just to be able to see the inside of the castle...

of the breakfasts we've done, i think my kids would probably most enjoy doing the animal kingdom one again (donald's breakfastasaurus or something like that)...
the waiter was cracking jokes non-stop, so the kids really enjoyed that....but i don't know if that's standard, or it was just him....

cape may cafe in the beach club resort was nice in terms of the food....an amazing selection of excellent food.....for food, that would be my first choice....and you can pretty much ignore the characters....they only come around once anyway....the last time we were there, we were almost rude to them...well...not rude...but we didn't take pictures and we told them that they've been wearing the same clothes for years.....time to go out and buy a new outfit...stuff like that....

yes, i think i would choose the cape may cafe if i were you....
it's the least character like, it's in a nice hotel and the food is quite good....

Thanks for your advice, we will do it but not sure where yet. Can't think too straight at the moment as I'm as excited as if it was our first trip.

If it's all included in the price of your ticket you might as well make the most of it. IMHO the best option would be the Cape May Cafe at the Yacht and Beach club. The food is excellent (if he's anything like the boys my kids mix with of that age food is a major concern LOL) and the character aspect can be minimal if you snag a quiet table away from the action. It may be worth mentioning to him that the guaranteed best way to get extra attention from the characters is to give it a "Kevin and Perry" so if he wants to minimise his embarrassment a quick "hi 5" with Chip is going to be the route of least resistance.

Had to smile at the thought of all these teenagers getting embarrassed over a load of characters.

So I asked my 18year old long haired, death metal loving son how he felt about having his character breakfast at the Cape May in August. He said he would enjoy it as it makes for nice memories and he had a mouse flirting with him at a character meal in DLP.

Another recommendation for mentioning the Food especially the as much as you can eat aspect.

WE went to a character breakfast last August & eldest DS 17 enjoyed it . We solved the "problem " by taking his girl friend on holiday with us. it was her 1st Disney visit so she had to experiance as much as poss.

Drastic I know but it worked for us!!!!!!!!!!1
