Kids stole the keys from the dog at POTC

The credit for the partial quote goes to Dean Wormer from Animal House:

"DRUNK AND STUPID IS NO WAY TO GO THRU LIFE".

I still hope they not only ban the person for life, and George beats the crap outa him.

That's what I'm saying. George will take care of him.:thumbsup2

It doesn't surprise me, that the CM was clueless (or didn't care).

I would have taken pictures of them while they were doing it. That might have actually deterred them if they weren't aware of the ride cameras.
Nah, I seriously doubt it.

Interesting. Now, I on the other hand would be absolutely shocked to learn a company as smart and successful as Disney had only one set of keys.

:thumbsup2

Sometimes, if I'm gutsy enough, I'll yell, "not only are you ruining the ride, but you are ruining your pictures by using that flash!" to people I see flashing on the ride.

Pop a flash in front of me and your shot will be completely ruined by a photo bomb. Flash photography on a dark ride is my biggest pet peeve. It gives me a migraine. Once is considered a mistake, after that..you are fair game. pirate:

It is in the announcement, but the CMs should enforce it.

I am gonna download a Flashlight App for my phone so I can fight fire with fire ! back At ya Flash Photo peeps!

I have heard it many times as well as at the beginning of the ride.
I know that the announcement is there. I should have clarified or used better wording. I wish the cast members would enforce the rule. In the same way that I wish they would enforce the offensive clothing and heeleys rule.

When people get on rides, they are excited and too busy talking to others in their party so they do not hear the announcements. Disney should enforce their rules through the people that are left there in charge of the attractions.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming..................

I have heard it at the beginning and I have also had times when you couldn't hear it. Or people may just not be paying attention.

I have been on the ride when they stopped it to make the announcement again; happened a couple of times on the same ride.

That's crazy...... even though it's easy to replace the keys it just isn't the same..... :sad2: Those punks are nuts for even attempting to get out of that boat...

Here's my thoughts from riding many times from 1972 to present. Use of flash used to be more strictly enforced in the early days of the park. I do recall hearing the "no flash" announcement during most recent boardings. I do think that it is probably announced more fervently by some CMs than others. It also may have to do with whether the boat has people with larger, more visible cameras. It wouldn't surprise me if some CMs do a sort of "profiling", when they think they are going to have issues with a certain boat. I have been on the ride several times when it was either interrupted or stopped for additional announcements (both the "no flash" and safety - remain seated or keep arms & hands inside the boat). I believe that these announcements during the ride are made when someone is bothering others or does not stop when warned the 1st time.

I have seen see CMs watching the monitors and op boards from behind a dark window overhead as you depart the loading dock. I know there are multiple monitors, camera, sensors, etc. I believe the night in question there must have been an epic failure or some very distracted CMs. I believe either is a feasible possibility.

My DH has a nice Nikon DSLR and he has been able to take some very nice pictures in the ride without a flash.

We were there a couple weeks ago and I asked him if he could try and get some pics of Snow White before it closed for good. When we asked the CM loading, she gave us (myself, DH and daughter) a car by ourselves. It was off peak and there was only a 5 minute wait. This ride is partitioned off by doors which gave us many opportunities to fire off some flash shots that would not affect any other riders. At the end of the ride, the CM gave us a big smile, wave, and thumbs up.

Heard a story years ago about a young CM (I'm thinking it was a teenage girl) that was actually killed on CoP. I believe she was at the front corner where the microphone is and somehow got caught between those large moving walls between the scenes and was crushed. Not telling this as 100% fact...just something I've heard. Maybe someone can confirm or deny.

On the original topic, I'll be in MK in 2 weeks and Pirates is one of my favorite rides. I will certainly be asking CM's for any updates they may have.....and have my camera ready to take pictures of any idiots doing stuff like this (with my flash turned off of course!) ;)

I can confirm that a young woman was killed in that manner on CoP when the ride was still at Disneyland. When it was dismantled and shipped to WDW the area was redesigned so that couldn't happen again.

i have been on POTC when a CM said to a guest THREE times not to take flash photographs, before the boat even left the queue. that idiot STILL took flash pictures. yes, some people don't hear it; but others just don't give a flip.

Back to the original post subject, I just asked my husband who works opening shifts at POTC if he had heard this and he confirmed that it happened. I asked if the people were caught and he said all he had heard was that the perpetrater was drunk. So take that as you may. :)

Well, I'm glad I know what was going on now. I was working in the Pirate shop on Friday night and heard an Attractions cast member yell up the hallway "You guys need to stop that or I'm going to call security!" I assumed someone was doing something unsafe on the conveyor belt. Then four boys came running out into the shop and said to "split up!" and then, upon seeing that all of our gates were closed, rushed out of the double doors by the Pirates League. Unfortunately, we didn't know anything was wrong (other than the usual :rolleyes1), so we didn't stop them.

That was the exact moment we were yelling at the CM (from our boat) to stop the guys and were telling her what happened - she yelled up the conveyor belt for them to come back to her, and stop, or she would call security. They were gone at that point.

It sounds like they may have been caught - so that makes me happy.

Although, it's not enforced...doesn't make it right.

To be fair here, not everyone visiting disney is proficient in English, and that can be a very difficult hurdle to get over, since there's a fair chance the person wouldn't get why folks seem to be getting upset. I will concede that those cases are most likely a very small case of the incidents though :).

Although, there are a lot of people who just don't care. You can see several first-person perspective videos of rides on youtube that aren't actually allowed [at other parks primarily]. There's even a night-vision run through of Space Mountain [which isn't as interesting as it sounds].

You're not allowed to take video on rides? Never knew there was an actual rule about that. :confused3

There isn't. I've taken video on a number of rides, including EE and BTMRR in full view of CMs and they smiled and waved me on. Only ones I really wouldn't consider are ToT, RnRC, and any dark ride where the video screen would bother other riders.

Why is that?

I guess I didn't phrase it quite right...I contributed to it on this thread and I am remiss for doing so, but the debates always turn nasty and I just get tired of reading the same thing over and over (and yes, I ususally skip those threads). It seems like there is a general consensus that no one likes being blinded by flash photos in rides where it is prohibited, but it always seems to degenerate into something more mean spirited than that. I, for one, listen on every ride to try to hear it...and there are some rides where I *know* it is not allowed, yet I don't hear it mentioned in the announcement.

And I wasn't trying to make "excuses" - I just stated that IMHO, people either don't know, don't care, or made a mistake. I guess I'm more willing to give people the benefit of the doubt than others may be - and I guess in my many trips, I've been fortunate that a flasher has never ruined any experience for me on any ride. For the record, I am not a flasher. I also thought that pointing a person to a place where they could gather the specific information for each ride would be more helpful and informative than calling them names (or insinuating it).

Back to the original topic, glad to hear that perhaps the culprit(s) were apprehended.

Maybe the poster meant Universal - they don't allow video or photography on any rides (or at least none that we rode).

I am too confusing to understand at times :). I thought I made it clear I was referring to parks other than Disney World [and the various Disneyland Resorts].

Universal I was fairly certain doesn't like primarily for the footage reason. Some parks try to claim they don't allow it for safety reasons [a camera can be considered a loose item].
