Has anyone had experience with their children getting seasick? I didn't know if this is something I should worry about and prepare for. My DH is very prone to motion sickness and everytime we have cruised he has trouble despite seabands and dramimine.

Kids have never been on a ship (or boat for that matter) before so I don't know how they will do or what to do to help them.

Any advice???

We were on the 11/5/05 Magic and it was our daughter's (8yrs.old) first cruise. It was a little rocky a couple of nights but she never complained at all. I bought Children's Dramamine and took it with us just to be safe but never had to use it. Good Luck!

The first night of the 11/19/05 Thanksgiving cruise had very rough seas, high winds and a very difficult time for Mikey's dad (me). I went to the Treasure Ketch to get something and tried the 'wristbands' (wristbands with marble or something in it). The CMs at the Treasue Ketch were getting out the "Emergency Bin" of all the sea sickness items from storage when I arrived @ 7pm. I saw many people with the wristbands on as well as with the ear patches. Although the wristband did not work for me (because they only had small sizes which made my hands turn a pretty shade blue - this did not match the shade of green that I was already turning from the seas), it did seemed to work for many other people though. The talk at the tables that night and on Castaway Cay on Sunday was about the seas and many people (kids included) stated how well the wristbands worked for them.

Mikey and Chris had zero problems with the seas :Pinkbounc :bounce:...I guess the biggest people of the gang fall the hardest.

I would suggest the wristbands for kids - non-medical cure.

where do you get these wristbands on board ship

We were also on the 11/19 cruise and my ds (age 9) was sick. He got sick during dinner, went to bed and was fine the next day.

WE have been on 3 cruises along with DS and DD...Last year's rough hurricane induced seas was enough for my DS9 to get sick...We went to the room and lay done for about half an hour and then he was STARVING????????? SO I called room service, ordered up a sandwich and he was fine....I was SO worried he would get worse.. After a few people talking about having a FULL stomach, I realized he had not eaten much that day. They attribute it to morning sickness when pregnant...Try to keep a full stomach and it definitely does help. We bought the wristbands at the pharmacy before leaving, and really never wore them...

I must say that our cruise got worse. The conditions were really incredible, and never again did my son feel queasy...

Treasure Ketch, Deck 4 midship. As soon as you walk in from the main hallway, keep making right into the corner with all the other medicines.

We were also on the 11/19 cruise (hi Kris) and I drugged everyone up before we departed... my DS 8 is prone to seasickness and I was concerned .. I was glad we did so... I was shocked to find the dining room almost empty the first night and we had no idea why... until later when we learned many many people were ill... we kept the regimen through the trip and no one in my party was ill... not sure if it was the pills or not but I'm glad we did.. it was our first cruise and i'm sure we wouldn't have rebooked if anyone was ill..

as a side note... the first dose to my DS8 was the friday before and I gave him a full Dramamine... WAY TOO MUCH for him... he was totally drugged looking.. after that 1/2 all the way...

this is coming from a person who never takes aspirin, etc. I'm not a pill person but when I heard the storm was back I didn't want to ruin the trip!!

We were on the 11/20 Wonder and the seas were so rough--we couldn't dock at Castaway Cay! My pediatrician recommended Benadryl liquid for my 10 year old--I gave it to her the first night and she was so sleepy and felt lousy that she refused any meds the rest of the cruise--she rode it like a cowgirl and never felt sick! We saw a lot of green parents though!!! Most kids do better than us adults. Now me, I took the Bonine every 8 hours and felt fine!

We are now suffering from Post Cruise Sadness Syndrome--have you heard of it yet? It's been one week and we're still sad, still looking at our watches, saying, oh, we'd just be going to the buffet, or we'd just be going to the show! I've been combing the cruise bulletin boards since we got home, looking for another for next year that we could afford!

Have a wonderful trip!! The memories you bring back will last you a lifetime!

Yes, kids can get seasick. My DD (7) got sick on the August repo cruise when we were in the vicinity of a hurricane. This was our third cruise and the first time anyone has been sick. I didn't feel too well on the hurricane day either. We were not alone. We found that some bannanas from Topsiders seemed to help. I tried Ginger Altoids since I had heard that ginger will help but none of us could stand the taste of them :-)

Good Luck!

anyone have any experience with younger ones getting sick? Infants to 3?

My DD's will be 10 months and 3.....when DD was 18 months she was fine, I took Bonine and was fine and DH must have great sea legs or else the beers helped.

Here's the cure for Post Cruise Sadness Syndrome --- book a SEVEN NIGHT! Seriously --- last September we went on the 4 night which became a 3 night due to hurricane. When we returned we were very bummed -- 3 nights just wasn't long enough. It was like a great appetizer, but left you wanting more. Almost immediately upon return, I booked a 7-night for Thanksgiving week 2005.

We have just returned from the 7 night and I feel very satisfied. After 7 nights, believe it or not, we were about ready to come home. We did everything we wanted to do and had enough down time to just relax. We were stuffed to the gills and didn't need any more food!

The 7 night is the way to go! I miss the Magic, but don't have the overwhelming need to book another cruise! (at least not yet - LOL!).

My DD5, got sick as well. As another poster stated, it was mainly due to an empty stomach. We got the sea bands and she didn't like wearing them. Our WONDERful servers gave her bread and crackers at dinner. About 30 minutes after eating, she felt much better and was able to eat her real meal. She was just so enthralled by the Mickey Pool that we couldn't get her to eat that afternoon. We had pretty calm seas. I felt queasy at sail away and landing.

I recommend getting all medications, sea bands, before getting on the ship. Keep those tummies full.

denizdfaz: Thanks for giving me a diagnosis. I've been suffering from PCSS ever since our September cruise.

Our pediatrician's office recommended Children's Dramamine for the kids, but I asked at Target about it and they said there wasn't a Children's Dramamine. Huh? Where did you find it? I haven't checked Walmart or anywhere else because I figured Target would have it when I was doing my shopping yesterday. I got the "bonine" and the pharmacist said give the kids 1/2. I think I'm going to look for Children's Dramamine, though - the non-drowsy kind if they make it??

My DH's preferred cure for seasickness is alcohol. That way when he stumbles he can blame it on the rocking of the ship :rotfl:

I'm definitely checking into children's dramimine.

Thanks everyone for your advice!!!

nzdisneymom...there is no children's dramimine. The children's dose of the adult version is 1/4 to 1/2 tablet. We searched and searched in September. The bonine and less drowsy dramimine is not approved for use in children. It is a different drug.

Ah - thanks for that info. I guess I'll go back and get the dramimine.

I've bought Children's Dramine before. It made my daughter very AGITATED! She almost had like an allergic reaction to it. This was years ago so maybe they quit making it? It was a liquid form.

I saw children's Dramaine yesterday at our CVS it was orange flavored and chewable. All the Bonine said for people 12 and over. I also heard you are not suppose to split them for children.

I hope our weather is as pretty as your picture in 04/07!!! We had overcast muckiness last week!!! your pic made me totally envious until I saw it was April!!!
