My DD18 and I don't eat much and aren't foodies. I'd like the $185 I saved up on my Disney Rewards card for food to last as long as possible. I was looking at the menus on All Ears... Are the kids meals adult-quality food? I'm thinking the hamburger, or chicken nuggets from TL Terrace or the chicken or penne pasta kids meal from the Plaza Inn would be good options for stretching those reward dollars. We could split some adult meals, but we never seem to want the same thing at the same time!

So, has anyone eaten these kids meals? Is there enough food for a light-eating adult? And is the quality the same as an adult meal?

Thanks!

Great question as an adult meal will be too much for me. Very good chance my mom won't want to share what I will eat.

I'm almost 100% sure at WDW the chicken tenders were not the same for the kid's meal.

The pizza's at WDW were smaller-like the size of the personal frozen Pillsbury that are packaged in two's.

Maybe DL/DCA has better food for the kid's meals.

I can eat a kids meal only if I'm not very hungry. IME they aren't the best but they are OK. Might I suggest getting 1 adult meal and splitting it instead? And be aware, at TS places they won't let you order a kids meal.

They will allow you to order from the children's menu, but will double the portion.

I eat the kids meals all the time - I'm not that big of an eater.

But I'll tell you, the chicken meal at the Plaza Inn is amazing!

I had gastric bypass surgery so I order kid's meal all the time. You are right about the chicken kid's meal at Plaza Inn. The regular adult meal is WAY to big, it was before my surgery!

I can't speak from personal experience since I never tried anything my niece got, but on the last day at the park when we were talking about where to eat dinner. She asked, "can we eat some where good today?" :rotfl2:

The regular adult meal though is great for sharing if 2 or 3 people in a group are in the mood for fried chicken.

Agreed. DH and I can split the fried chicken meal easily. DD and I are not big eaters either but never tried to order from the kids meal. We usually just compromise and split something.

I usually get the kids meal pasta at Plaza Inn & add a side salad.

Other than the above, to save money, skip the soda & get water instead. That saves $3 each.

My last trip I didn't spend more than $10 each per meal and most were less than that.

Thanks for all the responses so far.

For those that have split a meal at the Plaza Inn, do you just eat from the same plate or will they give you a spare?

My favorite kids meal is the fried chicken meal at Plaza Inn too, and it's plenty for not so big eaters. I add a biscuit sometimes and it's the perfect size portion.

I agree with disneychrista also about the drinks. Just ask for a cup of water when you order your food and it saves you $3.00. It all adds up!:)

Someone please corrct me if I am wrong, but I thought I heard somewhere that you can order items a la carte. For example, if you just want a sandwich, you can get it without the sides even though the menus don't state that. This could save you some money and still allow you a good variety.

Also wanted to add that I got a child's pasta meal at CBR in WDW. It was good and plenty for me. Things like pasta would be the same, adult or child, just a smaller portion.:)

Just ask for a spare plate and divide it up yourself. Never had a problem with this and have done it quite a number of times. Also, if you want to, you can customize a bit. If you're not wanting green beans, you can order double potatoes or vice versa I suppose. If you want an extra biscuit, I think you can get one for a small additional cost. It doesn't hurt to ask if changes or substitutions are possible.

This is probably one of those sometimes things. For example, you can order your corndog from the Little Red Wagon a la carte even though it's not on the menu that way. I know though that I've been in the situation before where I asked for something a la carte (I think it might have been a hot dog at DCA), and the CM was very firm that there wasn't a button on the register for that so I had to buy the chips or apples or whatever too. I'd be interested in knowing if people have had luck purchasing a burger or sandwich a la carte at DL, especially at River Belle Terrace or Hungry Bear. I've never thought to try it, but that would solve some issues for us with ordering from those places.

The kids meals are adult quality, but the options are pretty limited. For example, at tomorrowland terrace, the only option is chicken nuggets. At Frech market they have, I think, two options- mac and cheese or chicken and rice. The serving of mac and cheese is pretty small. At Pizza port you are probably better off to buy a slice of regular pizza instead of the kids mini pizza.

When we took my inlaws last year (in their 80's) my father in law ordered the kids meals a few times. He's a really light eater, so it worked well for him. He also liked that most of the kids meals came with fruit ( apples or grapes at most places) and baby carrots.

and also the price

Yes, I know this, (I post about it all the time) but I wasn't sure about an adult ordering a kids' meal, we do this for the girls and they normally share. :)

DBF and I share a meal at PI, we don't ask for an extra plate, we just share. We also add a side salad to our meal. We've done it with pasta and with the chicken meal, we also like to add a side of bread, usually an extra breadstick as DBF is not a big fan of biscuits. :)

I wouldn't say they are adult quality at all. Some are yes, but the mac & cheese, I wouldn't order it for myself. :) I would order the chicken tacos at Rancho Del Zocalo tho.

I wouldnt order the mac and cheese either. ;) Very picky about my mac and cheese! But, if you did order it as part of an adult meal, it would be the same as for the childs meal. They dont have a seperate pan for kids vs adults. Just like the pasta at pizza port comes out of the same pan for both kids and adults.

Mostly I just noticed how limited the kids menus were. Maybe 2 choices and one was usually a toddler meal or the snack pack (gold fish, cheese, yogurt).
