How do you keep away from them? Do you buy the cookie snax for your kids? If not, what do you get them?

I just buy the school lunches. No temptation for me. Back when there were no school lunch programs, I just didn't give him garbage. It wasn't an issue, because he's never had a twinkie, so he didn't miss it. Just don't keep that stuff in the house. Find other things that you all like that are healthy and stock up.

Keep the Faith!

Here are some of the snacks I buy for my DD's lunches and snack time (6th grade, and they have a snack time!)are:

Craisins-come in different flavors
raisins
cereal bars
granola bars
sunflower seeds
Corn nuts
peanuts
dried fruit
fruit snacks
string cheese
cheese cubes
peanut butter and crackers
cookies (single serving packs ONLY)

Sometimes I make a "trail mix" of things like raisins, sunflower seeds, fruit snacks, corn nuts, put it all in a big baggy and it works as her snack for a week.

I usually buy everything in single serving sizes, so I'm not tempted to take a "sample" while making her lunch! This is especially important with the cookies!!

I am with CDoobee. I am trying to make sure my DS doesn't make the same mistakes as I . He loves raisins, dried fruit, yogurts, string cheese and other non-sugar dominated snacks.

Since DD became a vegetarian at age 8:D, unfortunately school lunches haven't been an option.

It's easy. My son lives in Houston and I don't make his lunch anymore. I told him he turned 28, enough is enough ;)

I try to avoid buying any snacks we BOTH like!

I think DS (9) might not have inherited my poor eating habits.

He does some strange things. About an hour after dinner last night, he asked me if he could have dessert.

"Of course, kiddo. What would you like?"

"Salad. With croutons and Italian dressing, please."

Whose kid is this??? (Certainly not mine. I thought I was allergic to any green food until I was 30.):p

LOL, Kathy! My kids always ask for a snack after they get home from school. My ds? a plain bagel or a hot dog bun (poor little carb addict) My dd? a salad with croutons, sunflower seeds and Italian dressing. Kids are so funny. :)

Terry, I'm feeling better just knowing that DS isn't the only weird kid here!:p That's so funny- these are the two who were born only 2 weeks apart, and they share the same strange habits.

(I don't tell him it's weird- I do encourage it. I have just always had trouble understanding a kid who asks to substitute a salad for fries at restaurants, and who steals the broccoli off my plate when I'm not looking. I was born a chocoholic, and he's never been a big sweets fan. Go figure!)
