Kids in Hot tubs?

Just look at the color of the water in the mickey pool by afternoon and you wouldn't go anywhere near it. One day it was gray and cloudy the next day brownish and cloudy...not exactly the best looking of pools I have ever seen! The goofy pool was so cloudy the day I took my daughter there you couldn't see the bottom and with all the kids jumping off the sides into the pool not looking where they were gon it was downright dangerous.

All of this talk of the jumpping is getting me agravated. I tell my girls when they are not allowed to do something because of a posted sign. Would I be the "B" of the ship if I hunted down a cm to make them knock it off.

And to the poster who wanted to know why kids don't belong in a hot tub someone posted a link somewhere above about how kids bodies heat up faster and cool down slower. So I guess it's a saftey issue. I don't know if kids would say when they get too hot in a hot tub, I know mine will say they are not too cold in an unheated pool even if their chin is quivering. All kids are different though and if the kid just wants a dip to see what it's like about I don't see it as a problem unless they are doing cannon balls ito the hot tub.

Definitely hunt down a CM...I don't think it makes you a "B" at all. I've done the same myself when kids have invaded the adult pool, although usually I just say something to them myself and I've never gotten an argument yet. What are they going to say? They'd have to plead illiteracy, as there are six or eight signs around the pool and surrounding area saying "Adults over 18 Only."

we are going on our first crusie 9/25 magic-is the Goofy pool really that dirty and if so why would they allow it to be that dirty-I hear so much about how they keep the ship sooo clean-do the ignore the pools? Has anyone made a formal complaint regarding the pools?

Wow, what a rude comment.

We never had a problem with the hot tub being over crowded or being used by 'just kids'. It seemed like going in the evening was the best time. My kids had no desire to even put their feet in. They knew it would have been too hot anyway.

Public pools in California are supposed to be closed if the water doesn't meet certain chemical levels and/or if the water is so cloudy that you can't clearly see the bottom of the pool. A young boy drown at a waterpark up in Sonoma last week because of a cloudy pool. No one saw him on the bottom. :(

dinnysuw...- they do clean them....but they are tiny...i'm sure you're thinking "pool" as in a pool by a hotel....but this is a ship.....the pools are tiny tiny tiny tiny...especially since they divide them up into 3 small pools instead of one big one.......with 2,700 guests on board the ship, it shouldn't be a surprise that the pools are a tad crowded...........

which is why we didn't bother with the pools.....
and since we don't ever lie in the sun, that eliminated the pool deck as a focus of activity for us....(i was on that deck only for the sailaway party....)
which i should add was no loss....there is soooooooooooooo much to do on board that i didn't even notice i was never on that deck....

They must not keep their hot tubs very hot. If it is at the approved temperature of 104, kids who stayed in there too long (adults too, especially if drinking alcohol) could get sick and even die of hyperthermia. So if they put up a sign, it would seem to me that would give them some kind of "plausible deniability" if anything happened. They could always say the person ignored the clearly posted sign and disobeyed their rules, releasing them of liability. Other than that, they probably don't care. FWIW, I don't like public hot tubs for hygienic reasons. I don't even want to think of the "diaper brigade"!

I guess I have been very lucky on all 5 of my Disney cruises. The pools always looked clean to me. I did however only swim in the Goofy pool with my Nephew and the Adult pool with my husband. We did have a few adults ask the cm's if their Children could Swim in the adult pool just for a little while as the other pools were to crowded. They were told NO. I still don't know why anyone would think that the rules did not apply to them. I love the adult only pool and enjoy the quiet place it provides.

Tluvs2talk -- i love the adult only areas on the ship....it's amazing that you can be on a ship with 1500 kids and not even notice them most of the time......and with most people congregated on the swim decks, there are other areas of the ship that are so quiet, you feel like you're on a private yacht...i love that feeling...

Having never been on a Disney cruise I haven't experienced the pools or hot tubs first hand. I can tell you that at Disney resorts there are always kids in the hot tubs. My kids always ask to go in and are always told the same thing, "No, hot tubs are for adults". My kids think I'm mean because other kids can go in, why can't they. My opinion is that the hot tubs are intended for adult guests and not safe for children. I did let them in once at Wilderness Lodge because they were cold and the hot tubs were empty. They got in for a minute and I had them get out as soon as some adults came over. It warmed them up and they got dressed.

I can't figure out how people enjoy the hot tubs anyway. If it was just me and my DH or close friends and family in there then maybe, but to sit so close to strangers in hot bubbly water and what the sweat beads roll down their faces, yuck!

When we cruise regardless of the signs, my kids will not be in the hot tub. They will be free for the adults to enjoy as they should be, IMO.

Ok, can we just think for a minute how absolutely disgusting the idea of a Hot Tub is? I mean talk about a breeding ground for bacteria! Lets just give them a nice warm moist enviroment to live in shall we? And think for a moment..where does all that drippy sweat from all those other hot tubbers go? you guessed it right in the water that YOU are enjoying. I nor my kids go into hot tubs-allowed or not! Can we get off this subject now?:wave2:

Nat:Pinkbounc

 Did I really just read that post right? Did you say...
"fatties"

and

"acres of bare flesh"

Oh my.... just so sad. Do you just assume all your friends here on this board are like you "little Brit"? So if you had a dis meet and saw a "fattie" and were looking at "acres of bare flesh in close proximity" what would you do? Ask them when they planned to go to the jacuzzi? And then say "well, good luck to you!" Sad thing is, at a Dis Meet we'd think you were being sincere to all of us! We'd never think you'd be judging us on our size.

Respect, sensitivity, friendships, non-judgemental, patience, meeting wonderful new people and making long lasting friendships despite the weight of that person - a human being. Come on, that was so not necessary and completely unfair to a lot of people here.

:sad2: I looked through all our docs and I couldn't find anything except "without accompanied by an adult".
Saw nothing about weight limit...must be your own personal requirement.

Lost in translation: "fatties" in UK, is an ENDEARING word for anyone over a size 12UK -into which categoryI fall, despite being a mere 5ft 3. I HATE the word obese.

It matters not one jot how big/small anyone is, but as the thread was about the hot-tubs,I felt it necessary to point out to guests, that they are not just there for maybe 2 or 3 people to park themselves for hours. The tubs are wonderful on the ship, but
just too small for everyone to use when they would like. Of course there isnt any hard and fast rules regarding their use, or indeed people who use them. BUT, I was hoping that maybe I would be able to benefit from using them - as Im slightly disabled, and need hydrotherapy regularly. As I dont use a walking aid it is not apparant that I have problems, just like many other cruisers. We would NEVER request people to get out of the tubs, but a little thought for others goes a really long way!

If anyone is offended by the comments, then I apologise, but many others on our cruise commented the same way. Dont shoot the messenger guys, just have a little thought for others who are just as entitled to use the tubs. Thanks.Nat

Ohhh, thanks Nat... I hate the word OBESE too! Oh don't ya just hate it! "Obese" or "fatties"..... who knows

I had no idea "fatties" was an endearing word in the UK. My bad.

Is "I'm none too keen on being faced with acres of bare flesh in close proximity" endearing in the UK too?

Lost in translation right? "acres of bare flesh" That's endearing?

Because to me, it sounds like you don't like fat people with acres of bare flesh sitting next to you in a jacuzzi while on a Disney Cruise. If I'm wrong, please feel free to translate what you meant by "acres of bare flesh in close proximity."

Never would think of shooting the messenger.......but thank you for shooting off your message Nat. It's very clear. In the USA --- this translation means I'm calling you out.

I apologize to all the Dis folks here and to the mods. But I just can't stand for this! I've met the most wonderful people here and I just can't imagine for one second someone saying these things. To think of the judgements one person may make if you have a DIS meet at the jacuzzi. Okay, it may just be me, but this makes me sick.

Well I've met Natdencro and I'm far from svelte and haven't missed too many meals if you know what I mean. She was and is a kind and personable person. I doubt there was any intent to hurt anyone's feelings and she in fact did apologize on here if she hurt anyone's sensibilities.
The comment was made 12 days ago. The comment is well past it's "Sell by date" now unless it keeps getting dragged up.

Might be a good idea to move on and not dwell on negatives.

Cheers,
Grumbo

Boy, we just bought a hot tub in April and now I'm all freaked out. At least we know the bacteria in it is family bacteria!;) We share everything!

We have pictures taken by the DCL photographer of our kids in the hot tub. The photographer was at the family pool and had many kids pose in the the hot tubs. I don't remember seeing the signs saying that kids weren't allowed and if we had we would have kept them out because we are extreme rule followers. I do think that if DCL does have such a rule they shouldn't take pictures of so many kids in the hot tubs for all to see on the shelves in Shutters.

Thanks Grumbo my friend. Gonna get together with Mrs Grumbo and purchase our very own tub for our Canada trip! Dont forget those beers! Cheers all. Nat:Pinkbounc

"Fatties"?!?!?! How rude!! I am not an overweight person. However, for those who are - they have every right to use the hot tub. Did they not pay for their cruise just as you did?!?!

I was going to post on this thread a few weeks ago but was quite upset when i read the post so didn't want to be a flame thrower, however i feel i really need to respond, i'm a Brit and would find it highly offensive if someone called me fattie however different areas of the UK have different dialects and nicknames so this may be why natdencro refers to it as a term of endearment, however for anyone cruising with me if you are offended to see my "acres of flesh" when i enjoy the hot tub then feel free to tell me and see what happens :-) or use another tub ! that said i won't be spending all day in them and if i see that it's full and others are waiting to use it i'll certainly move along and let each take their turn.
