We're all looking for some positive news so here's mine:

Isabella broke into her pig and took out all she could get. We bought diapers, "little girl panties", underwear and socks and took them to a drop off site at a local church. She'd already gathered up clean snuggly toys and an extra blanket. She 7 and needed to feel she was helping the children affected by the disaster.

My niece Hannah is 10 and has Type 1 diabetes. She usually has a lemonade stand during her community's annual Autumn celebration and the money goes to her Diabetes walk team. This year she's also selling cookies and plans to split the money between JDRF and The Red Cross.

Our local high school students have organized a barbecue lunch tomorrow with all profits going to disaster relief.

How about sharing what the children/teens you know are doing?

Beautiful. My girls chose clothing and other items of theirs to send and helped to bag box and label them to be sent to the survivors. As for me I can't keep up with everything but I've bought every kind of supply I can think of since the alarm was sounded. We've done PSA's on public television to inform our community about local relief efforts we've distributed countless fliers with supply list and relief locations and telephone numbers. I am a volunteer at my local shelter. With all our arguing, everyone is still getting out there and doing something and that must not be overlooked so thankyou for the oppurtunity you have presented for us to acknowledge this. :grouphug:

mY 2 youngest kids, DD 7 & DS 9 had a lemonAID slae this past Sun afternoon. They made almost $150.00 in 2 hours & ran out of all the lemonade we had!

They plan to donate it to 2nd harvest...and they plan to have another at our tag sale next weekend to make money to donate to noah'swish...we went to the local pet store & got leads, collars, treats, & food bowls that will be sent to the Houstan SPCA...

I'm not sure what they will come up with next but the ideas are many in this house!

Wow, $150 in two hours!!!

Not nearly as awesome as that, but my ds got a dollar out of his piggy bank to take to Kindergarten this morning. When I asked him what he was doing he said, "if I take a dollar to school to give to the hurricane people, I can wear a hat today, can you help me find my cowboy hat"...I literally thought my heart was going to melt! I am proud that he just didn't ask me for the dollar, and I'm proud of his school and our community.

He also helped me shop for a few things for our fellow diser Mrs. Kreamer.

My DD turned 6 a week ago and I just decided to tell her about the hurricane because she'll be starting school next week and I figured she'd hear about it there. Like I expected she was full of questions including the obvious - could that happen where we live? Of course, I didn't share the full extent of the horror just that there was a very bad storm and people had to leave their homes and most of their belongings behind. She asked what we could do to help which made my heart smile. We've donated money but my office is doing a drive for people relocating to Philly so I'll let her pick out some things for that and use some of her own money.

I'm just wondering how/what others with young children told their kids happened. My DD is a VERY sensitive child so I didn't go into much detail with her. We never have any news programs on while she's awake and she doesn't pay much attention to newspapers or magazines.
