This thread is AMAZING!! I love everything on here, you are all very, very talented. Now since you are all so talented I thought I would go ahead and ask you all two questions.

1. I want to try and make some hats in the minnie dot fabric that would look cute with all those twirl skirts and whatnot. Have any of you made anything that you could share pictures of or "how-to's".

2. I have attempted some applique's (Minnie/Mickey Head's) however I can not get the stitching tight enough or close enough and the curves...well they just don't seem to look right. I am using a Brother Pacesetter 1250 sewing machine. For those of you who do all that AMAZING applique work, HOW do you do it? Do you have to have a special machine? Do I need a better sewing machine? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

what do you all use to "mount" your hair ribbons on? i was thinking i could just buy something at the dollar store and pull its decoration off and put the new one on - i love the dollar tree!!!!

For some of the bigger bows, some of the instructions suggest "french barrettes" like these: http://www.artbeads.com/bar-01.html

You can buy the clips in small quanties at places like Sally Beauty Supply (I think it's like $1.69 for 12 for single prong alligator clips), or you can order them in larger quantities/cheaper from eBay. Either way, I'd think buying the clips would probably be cheaper (and easier) than buying a hair bow and removing it from the clip -- even if it is from the dollar store!

It took me alot of practicing to get neat with the satin stitching on my appliques. I have the Disney Brother machine, and I set my stitching to 3.0 and 0.5.

I'm not a good explainer/teacher but I'm going to give it a try. I'm right handed so it may be different for a left hander. I stitch my appliques with my needle hitting the outside of the applique on the right. Does that make sense?

For turns, I stop sewing, and I lift the presser foot and turn the fabric. I might have to lift the presser foot after each stitch and turn the fabric.

There may be a better way, but this is how I do my stitching.

ETA pic: I snapped a pic to show what I mean about having the needle hit on the outside of the applique. Please excuse the thread fuzz.

I can't wait to see the Wiggles outfits. I'm so impressed with your foresight. I generally do things last minute. For example, I started painting black stripes on a plain white t-shirt last Sunday night (about 8:30) because I decided I wanted a referee t-shirt for our VBS which started the very next day.

I mount my hair bows on both of the clips that were in those links. I buy my single prong alligator clips at a beauty supply store (like Sally's). The come in a box of 50 for like $5.00. And you can buy the french clips there as well or at Wal-Mart.

I heard of people using one of the wood burning tools with the flat tip to burn the ends of ribbon. Was that on this board? Also you can use a lighter but, eeeeek If it was one end I would do that but, surely after a few I would burn myself.

Thanks for the comments on my outfit. I forgot to add I am working on a hat to match it.

design_mom, It took me about 45 minutes to figure out the button hole. What kind of machine do you have. I have a cheapo brother. It may be easier for one of us with a machine similar to yours to explain it than going by the book. My instruction book sucked.

Great Job everyone! It's almost impossible to keep up with this thread! I love how many are sharing ideas, and lots of pictures! I wanted to say when I seal my ribbon with a lighter takes practice, and don't let the kids watch ya!
I was wondering if anyone has seen that blue fabric with the see-thru stars anywhere (the Cindy outfit on ebay has it). I am to scared to ask the seller.... fear of rejection.

I have to share. I have spent the past 12 days appliqueing (sp?) these Wiggles on the pants. Finally, I'm done, and I can sew the pants together. Keep in mind that I have twins so I appliqued 10 of the Wiggles guys. There will be ruffles on the ankles in the same fabric as the music notes.

I've already done one shirt with the Wiggles logo - all appliqued and stitched. I would post a pic, but the shirt is at my mom's house for her to do the zipper. Zippers are my nemesis. I'll be starting on appliqueing the second shirt as soon as I get the pants finished.

I got the Wiggles from searching custom Wiggles outfits on ebay. I figured it would be ok to use her stuff as inspiration since I'm not selling the outfits. . . EVER! Like I said earlier, I could sell an outfit for $1,000 and still feel like it wasn't worth the money. I've been working daily for 3 weeks now, and I'm still a few weeks away from being done.

ETA: I think it is the camera angle that has the Wiggles looking a bit on the angry side.

Does anyone have any ideas how to make a tank top with the castle on it? I saw an auction awhile back that was for a twirl skirt and top with a silhouette of the castle. I don't need a whole outift. The top one looks easy! I was going to say use basic shapes and just applique on. I think I might use it on my DS's next one if I ever figure out what I want for September!

No problem sharing!! I did pay for the instructions b/c I never really found the right kind of free ones that I liked. I paid about $40 for mine but I have learned to make some really cute things!!!
