Do you think anyone who is selling items made with Disney licensed fabric is doing enough volume to concern the Walt Disney Company? I wouldn't think so, but then I've heard that they are pretty zealous regarding protecting their copyrights. I figure that the people who are posting here who are ebay sellers are probably turning around and spending most of the money that they're making at WDW and DL anyway! I know I am, LOL.

My current finished projects. I like things comfy to wear for both me and my DD and I have a TIGHT budget so I improvise a lot. Not planning on selling them anytime soon so I am not worried about a stitch or 2 out of place.

I will do them in 2 posts so it is not so long a post.
First is the outfits I whipped up for me and the little one to wear to the MOJITO MONKEY MOMMA"S POP PARTY on Sept 13. I just used a pair of shorts that are getting to be too small and a shirt that is on its way out too. FUN FOAM is my friend. :lmao: We are only going to be wearing them for an hour or 2 so nothing fancy. LOL

My shirt first. I bought the monkey head pieces for a pattern then decided I didnt want to make what I was going to. What to do with a foam sticky back monkey head????? Slap it on a shirt of course.:rotfl: Took me all of 2 minutes to make. Woulda been quicker, but the stupid peel off stuff wouldnt peel. The little hair thing matches her shirt. (leftover ribbon--when am I ever gonna use green polka dot ribbon again?)

This is the DD4's outfit. The shirt was too short so I had to extend it. OH, and I am supposed to tell you:rolleyes: that her dad picked out the ribbon.LOL
The appliques are all fun foam with Aleene's tack it over on the back. I adapted the pattern from a cute invite on Oriental Trading. The barettes are just some hot glue, ribbon and fun foam on an alligator clip.

A patriotic outfit coming soon. THe munchkin is hungry. BRB

I don't think tabberone was doing a very high volume business with Disney fabrics when Disney shut down their auctions. I believe they had all different kinds of fabrics that they used. And I'm sure that they weren't pulling in the dollars that some of the custom outfits bring.

Someone recently posted on the budget board that they had contacted Disney about something similar and even were thinking about getting their products licensed but quit the idea after Disney's reply (the licensing was super $$$$). One of the reasons that Disney is such a big company is that they protect their interests.

I haven't heard of any of the custom sellers being contacted by Disney but if the custom stuff grows in popularity and gets more attention, they probably will be.

Who knows? :confused3 The clothes are super cute though. :)

I'm BAAACCCKKKK!:lmao:
This one is her outfit for the September 11th Flag Retreat at MK. Her dad and I had store bought Mickey and Minnie foiled shirts. (gotta love clearance at Family Dollar) And I couldnt find anything shimmery, Disney and patriotic for her....So I made one. :lmao: The shirt and pant are from Kmart and I just happen to accidently find the star material the head is made of at JoAnne's. Almost perfect match. Some sequined trim and ribbon and TAH DAH! an outfit. :rotfl: I sound like Dreamfinder.:rotfl:

The oufit is a prettier red then in the pic. I had to take it with a monster trying to get her pic taken too. Had quite a few with part of her face. I shoulda just put it on her and killed 2 birds with one stone.:rotfl2:

DId ya see the HM?
IMG_0619.jpg

Accessories included. My hair scrunchie (yes I still wear them..lol)is on the bottom right. Some really pretty ribbon out of a variety bag and leftover sequin trim. The circle thing in the middle is a bracelet for her is just a piece of ribbon with some sparkly poms glued on and velcro closure. DONT FORGET TO LOOK FOR THE HM"S!

Like I said I like simple and comfy. Plus I want to be able to reuse them for more then Disney.

That is why I am taking full advantage of custom disney outfits for as long as I can. You never know when disney will come crashing down on all of us boutique makers. And honestly there is more love than profit made into some of those outfits!

If you look on Ebay, there is a lot more than Disney custom outfits that are sold that infringe on the Disney copyright. There are just hundreds and hundreds of folks that are capitalizing off Disney. I've seen a lot of sellers reproducing Disney images and making custom wedding invitations (big seller for those Disney brides that are on a budget), address labels, cake toppers, jewelry, etc. IMO, I don't begrudge anyone making a living-you just never know who is at the other end of that computer and what their circumstance is. I figure if all these years some of these sellers are still selling Disney copyrighted items (in part) and Disney has not complained to Ebay then live and let live. I think a lot of the people who make the custom outfits are pretty safe. I've seen a lot of them use just generic fabrics and then make the fabric embellishments of the characters themselves...so I think they are safe from infringement, but I could be wrong. :confused3

Thanks. Have to include them in everything or it isnt a challenge. You should see my house. LOL I'm weird that way.

I have not had time to check in here for a few days...lots to read, lol!

First of all Tink, big hugs to you. I am so sorry you did not like the outfit.

I design and sell custom clothing too. I have had many customers tell me that they trust my judgement, and to just do what I think will be best, or to design their outfit as I would for my daughter. I have NO problem doing this, but I also will send pictures EVERY step of the way. Fabric choices, colors, appliques, placement, style, EVERY step of the way. My idea of what is gorgeous may not be your idea of gorgeous, but you had better believe I will always know what your idea is before I cut anything, lol! Each outfit I make takes a lot of time and I want to be sure it will be perfect for each customer.

I have made a couple of JoJo outfits I have made in the past...and my idea of what screams JoJo is very different, lol! Everyone has their own ideas....

With that being said I have never had a customer tell me they were unhappy with an item I made. I am sure that the seller feels bad knowing Tink does not like the outfit, but I also think Tink has the right to NOT like the outfit, having had no idea what was going to be used to create it, kwim? Hopefully the seller will try to work something out with Tink to make both seller and buyer feel a little better about the situation. :goodvibes

Tink have you considered listing the outfit on ebay? Maybe you can get most of your money back and look for a new JoJo outfit for your DD. Good luck! :)

I got a Brother at walmart for 148 and it is working out fine for me

There is a really cheap Brother machine that I bought my daughter that was at Walmart...it was model LS2125 and it was $89. Nothing fancy, but great for a beginning sewer or for someone who isn't wanting to spend hundreds or thousands on a machinel. ;)

When I got the NBC set and loved it I was having a hard time finding a JoJo outfit that wasn't a fortune. I emailed and asked if she could do one in the same style as NBC. I requested the big top on the twirl dress and Jojo and Goliath on the pants. She would pick out fabric, etc. I guess I trusted too much because I loved the NBC set. I don't like the fabric. I don't like the waist of the pants. They have a header like a curtain (sorry that's the only way I know to describe them!) and the tee that can be worn with the pants has a purple background when there is no purple in the pants. It just doesn't seem to have the same quality as the other set.

It's just not what I had in mind. I thought the big top would be like the one on JoJo, etc. It's sized to fit an 18-24 month.

I know exactly what you mean! The background on the shirt dosen't match anything on the pants. I don't think I could put it on my dd either. Hope you can re-sell it and find something nicer!

I think it's rather cute--except for the fact that the shirt doesn't match the pants at all! That would be my complaint. Did you pay the same price for the NBC outfit as the JoJo? Can you send it back and have her make another since you aren't satisfied? You'd think she'd want to please her customers.

Good luck.

Yes, I paid the same amount for both sets. I have emailed the seller but I haven't heard back yet.

Hi!

I'm new and just saw this thread. We're planning a trip for April 08. Can't wait our first big family trip. I'm stll looking at posts. ^_^

I have some pics of Nightmare Before Christmas outfits I've done for my daughter. I'll post after I get a little more used to the site.

Happy to be around Disney Folks!

Hi!

I am new here and wanted to first say I love all of the adorable stuff you have all made for your beautiful children (yes I looked at and tried to read every post:)).

I have a few questions. I am planning a September trip to WDW with my husband and 4 children. I am wanting to make a few things for the baby to wear since my boys refuse to wear anything Disney:confused3.

The first thing I want to try is a ribbon tee. I see them on eBay and I think I can do it. I am talking about ones with the wide ribbon across the middle of the shirt and you can attach a bow to it. I am going to embroider her name over the ribbon with my new machine. My question is: Do you open the seam and put the ends of the ribbon inside and re serge it? Or do you go as close to the seam as possible with the end of the ribbon? I am a bit of a perfectionist and want my DD to look adorable.

My other question is: I have noticed a lot of the ladies mention that they sell boutique clothes. Is there a way to find a list? I would love one of the full twirl skirts and I am pretty sure that is a bit out of my league.

Thanks in advance for the advice. I really did enjoy looking at all of the adorable outfits you all made.

Thanks,
Lacy

I iron the edges of the ribbon under about 1/8. Then I get it even with the seam. Afterwards, I stitch it to the shirt with whatever color thread matches the ribbon.
