So dh said since I am currently using a borrowed sewing machine that I will need to return eventually, that he would get me one for Christmas :santa: .

What machine should I ask him for?? Any recommendations?

Thanks!!

Alix

I have the Brother 7700 which is the Costco version of the Brother i6000 (which can be found at WalMart). It has about 70 stitches, I think. The difference in mine is that it has a couple of extra stitches and came with 10 presser feet. Other than that, I think it is very much the same machine. It is just under $200 at either place. I HIGHLY recommend this machine! I can't say enough great about it. I know that there are many here that own the same machine and feel the same way.

Okay, my phone is out and my internet is mostly out. DH says we need a new modem. Let's see if I can get this posted before it crashes again!

Can we just drop the boys off?????? Really they're no bother at all. Just throw them a box of Fruity Pebbles if they get hungry. We can call FEMA after they leave...really. :rolleyes1 Just don't get them wet or feed them after midnight!
Send 'em over! Obviously I don't mind chaos, you've seen my house! And kids!

I made DD a pesant top last night out of a stretchy velvet. The material was a PITB, it turned out pretty! DD loves it, it's sooo soft - she was petting it this morning! Now I just need to make the stripwork jumper to go with it! I used the YCMT Portrait Peasant dress pattern. I just made the bodice part longer and didn't add the "skirt". I've said it before...I love this pattern!!

IMG_2590.jpg

Very cute! And I too LOVE this pattern, it is the only peasant one I use, I do the same thing and just lengthen the bodice and don't add a skirt.

This was super easy to do! The instructions on how to put it together confused me, but with some help from eeyore3847 we figured it out!

That's funny. The instructions confused me too for a minute then I just decided to stop thinking and just do what it said, whether it made sense or not, then when I did it, it made sense!

:santa: Well today I finally got our new tree up! DD9 and DD4 helped me. We had a little scrawny tree so this one was quite a step up! Notice the tags still on it :rotfl:

So here are the girls in front of the tree before we started decorating it. The two little ones are wearing their Christmas Bear dresses. They were a pre-printed pattern which was soooo much fun and easy to make. It took about 2-3 hours per dress. I sewed bells on so they are jingly! :thumbsup2

Your DD is so cute! I really love the way the top turned out! :thumbsup2 Was it hard working with stretchy material? I think I have special stretchy material stitches on my sewing machine. Great job! I love your tree too! :santa:

mostly clothes for my three girls; dresses, skirts, tops, tulle ballet skirts, you know all that girly kinda stuff :cutie: Mostly this would be a hobby, but who knows maybe I'd get good enough for :wizard: one could hope ;)

Thanks again!

Alix

Oooh..that is so exciting!! I have the Brother PC6500 Pacesetter sewing and embroidery machine. DH surprise me with it couple years ago...and it finally got some use just recently. I haven't had a chance to try the embroidery part of it yet.

ok, a friend of mine broke her arm last week. she has a 2 week old too, can barely change a diaper. I wanted ot make her new son a little xmas outfit. she says he fits into a 3-6m clothes and the newborn is very snug. Can anyone give me an approx waist size for there little 3-6m old size wearing little one. or if you have a pair lying around. thanks, oh a length would be great too.

lori

did you like the pattern better than the other one! the other one never fit right!
how long was start to finish?
Lori

I do like this one better than the Dainty Designs pattern, you are right it never fit right. I feel this one is more true to size and much easier to put together. I whipped ;) this one up in just about an hour. The material was a PITB to cut so it probably took longer because of that. I was worried about my ruffle foot and the material, but that was no problem!

I just want to clarify that the peasant top is the only thing I have ever "whipped up" in under an hour! And that is mainly because it has no ruffles! I too spend much of my time cursing ruffles and I have callouses from my seam ripper(s). Right now I have an outfit waiting to be finished because I can't figure out how to do the ruffles on the straps of a stripwork jumper. Can't be too hard, but I can't figure it out.

Has anyone heard about the new Hannah Montana Pettiskirts?!? Apparantly her mom contacted Kaiya Eve to make a pettiskirt for her to wear on her tour. Here's a link...

http://britchinpost.com/catalog.php?category=56

Also, Target has Hannah tee's in "big girl" sizes. I searched for one back in August in a size 5 with NO luck!! I got a cute pink one and am going to make a pair of decoupage jeans to go with it for a Christmas present.

Hello everyone! Just got back from a Thanksgiving beach trip! It was so fun! I don't think I will ever get caught up reading all the posts! Here are some outfits I have been working on.

beachnov20007060.jpg

This is for my youngest, who is 6. I think I am going to add sleeves to the top, though. I don't know.

beachnov20007061.jpg

This is for my oldest, 9. I made the tshirt with an iron on from WM, it is the fuzzy type.

My next project is for their Christmas dresses.

Here is a pic of my youngest in a stripwork skirt I made before we left. She is at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, SC.

I also have this machine and love it! I would definitely recommend it. Good luck and congratulations on getting a new machine!

Hi, it's me, the lurker who made a couple of ribbon shirts with iron on stuff and then made one actual sewn ribbon shirt. I bought a sewing machine on Black Friday at Target. It came with an instruction book and a DVD. I hope to start making some stuff like you awesome designers!!

I just wanted to say I wish that this thread was easier to find things in. I know that off and on, I've seen people post directions of how to do things. It's impossible to find those though with 1,371 pages. Do you think they might give you all your own subforum one of these days?

Like Heather said, I try to put everything in the bookmarks. Also, check out the photobucket account to see every picture ever posted on this thread!

I like the thread the way it is, and would rather keep it this way. I don't really like to start new threads, so this is much more comfortable for me. It's more chatty, and like a family I think.

Well everyone, I hate to say it again, but I'll be off the DIS and our sweet little thread here for about 2 weeks .

The movers come tomorrow and we're moving across the country again! :drive:

They should have everything packed and loaded in the truck by Wednesday, Thursday we need to clean the house we are living in now and then we will be on our way to Wisconsin by Friday morning. Luckily for us, the company let us load our car on the moving truck and we are flying! My biggest fear was driving through 2 mountain ranges and across the prairie of Wyoming, Nebrtaska and Iowa in the middle of the winter! You know it'd be just our luck to have the 3 worst winter storms to ever hit those areas in the history of mankind if we were driving!!

So please, if you are so inclined, remeber us in your prayers- I'd really appreciate it. I'll try to check in while we're in hotels, but it's not always possible to do that. And.... if you'd like, I'll post pics of the new house and all the many boxes we have to unpack once we get there! You guys can cyber-help me unpack- ok???

Take care in the meantime my friends! I'll miss reading your posts! :grouphug:

We'll miss you! I hope you get back online soon! Have a safe move, and please post pictures when you can!

First of all, I want to tell everyone that you can't be Teresa's sister unless you spell her name right!! There is no "h" in Teresa!! So there! :p
!!!!!!THANK YOU!!!!!

Henry and I went to dinner BY OURSELVES!!!   It was great!
We were at the mall last night too!

Aw...how sweet. I like you, but not as much as I like Teresa! ;)

You guys are just wonderful! You probably wouldn't like us nearly as much in person, though! We have this "issue" with always having to be right.:lmao:
Speak for yourself! I'm sure they would all LOVE me if they met me! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: And I KNOW I'm right, so there!

Wow, Wow, Wubbzie!! That is so pretty! I love it!!
Wubzie? Are you on some sort of medication??????

A black and blue foot! :scared: I was carrying empty totes from Christmas decorations into the basement and ran my foot, full force, into Henry's scuba diving air tanks. YEEE-OUCH!!!!
Her whole foot is all black and blue. OOOOUUUUUUUCCCCCHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Very pretty! A Thanksgiving BEACH trip. I'm jealous!
It has been snowing here all day, and the roads are quite slick.

Snowing! It is cold here in WV, quite a shock to the system to go from mid 70s back to 40s. It was fun, I am ready to go back, but reality calls. :rotfl:

It was so fun, and not crowded. I really wanted to go to the world, but I couldn't, we are going in April. But I love the beach, too.

Hi everyone  Long time no sew :)

I've been away from the board for two months because life kind of bogged me down. My car has gone through such extensive (meaning expensive) repairs that we had to change our vacation. We were going to stay at Poly, lagoon view, but in the end decided to go back to Pop Century. We were a tad disappointed, but since we're still going, it's kind of hard to stay sad.

Anyway, I've still been sewing and will share, but not until I'm caught up on the thread (I'm 400 pages behind :scared1: ).

I'm really feeling the crunch since we're four weeks from Christmas and less than 2 months from our trip. I think I can get everything done, but only time will tell. I haven't even started buying accessories yet though and really need to put my ebay shopping skills to good use :)

So thanks to everyone for continuing to share your creations, I've enjoyed trying to catch up and I'm glad to be back.

(Now who do I need to compliment to get a Christmas smiley for my sig?)

I just wanted to share my little sweeties with you all, hope it's not to late for thanksgiving photos-
You may recall I made this a while back, it was my first attempt at sewing after discovering all you wonderful people  You should have seen the dust on my machine.
47b7cf04b3127cceb0f7c5bebc8700000025101AZsXLhszbMY

I chickened out on the applique and just did the old puffy paint thing. Still turned out cute. I was working with a limited amount of time and didn't want to chance it.
And a first for my dd- Piggy tails!!!!!! Her hair is finally long enough, well at least in the back!! :rotfl2:
47b7cf04b3127cceb0f7abca3df400000025101AZsXLhszbMY

And a good picture of ds- Don't get to many of those anymore- so I get SO excited when I get a decent one- you know when there is no dirt or food AND you get a good smile not a fake one or a crazy face...... So here is my shameless post:

I have been so busy since we got back- I finally got caught up with the thread today- whew!! and WOW Everyone!! Love the I spy Bags- I 've been looking around here for some teeny tiny things to put in one but I haven't had luck so I think I'll try a sticker one first. I have a million of those :rotfl:
Ok Long enough
ps Hope Everyone had a great Turkey Day- And I wanted to say I am very thankful for all of you- the encouragement and the ideas and cyberfriendship- What more could we ask for :goodvibes

TINKERBELLEMOM, your gingerbread men are adorable. I wish I could do something like that. (Maybe someday.)

HEATHER, you got me all misty-eyed, too. What a great gift/memento of your grandfather! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

Congrats to all who got great deals on the cricut machine. I have no idea what it is really, but I saw it in all the papers and thought it must be cool. ;) Not enough to venture out, of course. I am *so* glad I have an excuse not to go out with DH anymore. He loves the hunt of the "deal." I do not.

TANYAANDALLIE, I *love* that Tigger Fabric you got. I wish we had a Hancocks around here. Our closest is about 2-1/2 hours away. :(

I had been feeling guilty about making several things for our upcoming trip for DD, but nothing for DS. He really wants a camp shirt, but that's still outside my skill level (especially at this point in time -- we leave in a week!) So, I decided to try my hand at an applique. I've never done one before. I made this for DS to wear to Mickey's Christmas Party. As you can see, he wasn't into modeling "nicely." This is him trying to give *himself* bunny ears in the picture. LOL!

th_MVMCP_AlexShirtWear.jpg
th_MVMCP_AlexShirt.jpg

My machine doesn't have a satin stitch option, so I had to use the buttonhole stitch. It's not as nice and smooth as I'd like it to be, but I'm pretty happy considering it's my first try at an applique. :)

Hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving and a good shopping day!
i like it i am excited to see boy things on here, i have 4.
How funny he is giving himself bunny ears:rotfl:

I've been working on a new outfit. This portion will either be the front of a jumper, or a peasant top. I haven't decided yet.

that is too cute you are just so dang talented , it looks like it is very detailed , i do not want to get pulled into the webkins world :rotfl: but that Hippo definately could pull me in, i love Hippo's

The latest thing I have been working on!

Or vice a versie!;)

I just whipped this up in a half hour! No biggie!:rotfl:

Not likely! It took me longer that that to pick out the fabric from the stash!

I had seen someone posted earlier that she made a peasant top in a half hour, and I don't seem to be able to get anything done in a half hour!
i love it and it is vise versaval :rotfl: my favorite kind of outfit:goodvibes

well mayson is finally asleep he has a lil bit of a fever , Thanks Wendy:laughing: . i am gonna hit the hay and put this lil man to bed.:cloud9:

The big tree...
