ADORABLE! They are toooo cute!

I'll second the shower trick...my oldest has tight ringlets too, and we learned long ago it can't be brushed when it's dry. There's a really good book for managing curls called Curly Girl by Lorraine Massey. Many of the tips and tricks she has for curls we had already figured out by the time someone recommended the book to us, but reading it helped us conquer Marissa's curls. The biggest advice was to not wash so often, but to use conditioner with every shower, she combs out the knots when its still goopy with conditioner, and that helps too. Now that she's 15, she does her own hair, but still sleeps in that braid to keep it under control too.

Here's a recent picture...to keep it sort of on topic, I made her dress. :)

Your daughter is beautiful and I too have a 4 year old with unmanageable curls!:rotfl:

Well, I finally got my DD4 to model her casual princess outfit! And no I will not apologize for the falling down ponytail hair!:rotfl: Nor for my messy living room!:rotfl2: You know how dangerous cleaning is!:rotfl: :rotfl2:

I bought a ruffler today, and OMG...I zipped through 180" of fabric in record time!!! Stitching them onto the skirt fabric with my serger took even less time than I thought possible (I skipped pinning) I can't wait to time myself on a twirl skirt because pulling gathers and pinning each row took FOREVER!!!

YES, the flight would be easier if we were heading to WDW!!! I can't wait until May!!!
Isn't everything better when you are headed to WDW????

Hi All, This is what I finished this morning.

I hope everyone is staying warm...brrr....
Aww Ireland looks adorable in this outfit. I love it!

My feet are covered in band-aids and hurt but I still persist in wearing those shoes. I keep thinking I just need to break them in, but I think my feet are the ones breaking!

The shirring was very easy. There were directions with the corset directions, but there were also directions on the back of the package of elastic thread. I laughed when I did and found how easy it really was. I was so silly for avoiding it!

:scared1: Yikes...sounds like the shoes may need to go...hahaha!!!

I think I will try that shirring stuff....have no idea on what just yet but wish me luck....!! LOL

Why can you never get 4 kids to look good in one photo? And please disregard the yard. Obviously I sew instead of doing yardwork.

Awww how adorable are they!! The outfits look FABULOUS!!!!

So, I've been lurking for a little while now and I wanted to introduce myself. I'm Alix, I'm 28 and have three little girls (5, 5, and 3 1/2). I'm a preschool teacher, which is so much fun, but you definitely don't do it for the money, lol. I've been drooling over all the creations everyone has posted...you all make it look so easy, while I'm totally clueless :confused3 . My aunt gave me a sewing machine that she bought thinking she'd use it, but she never did so she passed it along to me :woohoo: . I would love to try making some cute outfits for my girls for our Disney trip in January princess: , anyone have any suggestions where to start?? I'm a pretty quick learner and relatively good at following directions. Thanks for any help you can give me and I look forward to seeing more of everyone's amazing creations!!!

Alix

welcome to the thread! the best thing is to get a very user friendly pattern from YCMT . Or buy a simple shorts or pants pattern from simplicity!
and test out some designs on not to spendy fabric

Oh boy it takes FOREVER!! We do the same thing in the shower. Wash it and condition it and brush it while still in there. Then we brush it onces she is out of the shower, and I braid it. That way it stays that way over night. and not too bad to brush out in the morning.

Georgia with her autism has A LOT of sensory issues. and washing her hair period is hard, but add on brushing those curls, its painful for her!! and me too.

We just start at the bottom and work our way up gently. and Braids are the key for us. They help more then you could believe!

We like braids too!!! If we are going somewhere in the morning, braids are a MUST!!! Your daughter's hair is so gorgeous!
I musta missed something, what are these? I'm gonna check out Ts bookmarks, but anyone have pics? The Church comment really got my attention!!!!
Mine is in the car, or I would take a picture of it for you. The kids have been having fun playing with it! I made one out of fleece and it only has one window. Although, the kids think there should be two so it would be easier. They are so easy to do, I will probably try one like that too!

Bag #1
th_2007_11170002.jpg

The bags are from theoffice supply isle at Wal-Mart. I put the stuff in (I used rice. Rinse it first & dry it in the oven so get rid of the powder) & glued the zipper shut, pulled of the zipper pull & then glued the ribbon over the zipper.
That is really cute!
ok, so far this morning I have finished the Grinch tee and spinny skirt (yeah!!!), the Peguin spinny shirt, a flannel pillowcase for DD (It was cold here agin this morning) and just for you Teresajoy, a matching flannel sleeping bag for Jord!

I will try and post pictures later as a certain 6 year old woke up with a bad case of the grumps when she found out I did not plan to go to a theme park today and is not in a posing mood

Now I have to choose between moving on to fleece or hairbows :cool1: I KNOW maybe fleece hairbows! : kidding... it is not that cold!

Btw: I spoke to my Mother last night, her husband is home from the hospital (I still don't have the whole story, he has to go back to the DRs next week for more tests.) Than you to those that included him in their prayers.

Cindee
Yeah, a sleeping bag for Jord!!!! We ate at Applebees today, and there was a little box of toys for the kids to play with. And, guess what was in there???? Jord's cousin!!! We were doing a video review for ExpoTV, so I held it up and taped saying, "Look it's Jord!" My son looked at me like I was crazy, but the girls know who Jord is!

And REALLY how DARE you not take that child to a theme park???? :confused3

I'm glad to hear your Mom's husband is doing better.

Oh, how sweet! I'm all teary eyed, too!! My dad took Teresa's DDs to her father/daughter dance last year, too. It was so special!

It was so sweet! The girls were beyond excited, and once Dad got use to the idea, I think he was excited too! He even bought them little boxes of chocolate and chocolate roses to give to them before he took them! Brian couldn't take them, because they changed the night of the father daughter dance and he had to work.

Hi All, This is what I finished this morning.
288850550.jpg

I hope everyone is staying warm...brrr....

I LOVE this!!! It looks like Ireland is healing up really well. How is she feeling? She is such a pretty girl!
What fabulous pictures on this thread!

I'm thinking aout sewing again (after a 12 year hiatus) and may treat myself to a new machine. So much has changed in 12 years so I am looking for recommendations.

I do not quilt, but would be using the machine to make my dd4.5 dresses and skirts. I may sew myself a few things too. I'm intrigued by the computerized embrodery features I've seen. I'm budgeting 250-350, and I could probably go a bit higher.

TIA!

:welcome: !!!!! Make sure you check out the bookmarks for lots of free patterns and tips.

Everytime I read about kids with their grandparents it makes me teary. My dad died 8 years ago and my mom died 2 years ago. DH's mom died about 12 years ago. DH's dad and step mom live in Canada and we don't see them that much. My parents were the BEST grandparents. I miss them, for my kids' sake even more than my own.
 That is so sad I'm so sorry your parents are gone, that just makes me cry.
Why can you never get 4 kids to look good in one photo? And please disregard the yard. Obviously I sew instead of doing yardwork.

th_DSCN2942.jpg
th_DSCN2953.jpg
Your kids are GORGEOUS!!!! WOW!!! They all look so cute!
Nana,
thank you for the recomendations. My mother used to serge as well as sew. I was always so intimidated by that machine! It looks like it would take me 10 hours just to get that sucker threaded!

I bought a pattern today (jumper for my dd) and it was $9.00!

It's Quick Sew (not a name I'm familiar with). Are patterns really that expensive these days! I'm definately going to have to make this jumper several times! I've been out of it for 12 years, but I seem to remember buygin patterns for around three bucks.

I was going to answer you about the pattern prices, but I see my sister, Heathersue allready did. So, I will just say, she is right, patterns go on sale a lot at Joann's and Hancocks. And there are always the free ones in the bookmarks.

First of all :welcome: !! I started sewing after a 15 year hiatus (caused by a baby outfit for my nephew that went horribly wrong) after finding this thread. Warning: It's addictive!
I think that calls for a repost of this picture:
003.jpg

yeah, that is the outfit she made Corey when he was 1, and here he wearing it at 15.

Third, I have a 4.5 year old DD, too!
I have a 4 11/12 year old!

So, I've been lurking for a little while now and I wanted to introduce myself. I'm Alix, I'm 28 and have three little girls (5, 5, and 3 1/2). :welcome: Alix!!!!! So nice to have you here!!!
Can someone tell me where the instructions are for those furry cuffs?
I got yarn and now I need instructions.

Thanks.
Susan
They are in the bookmarks. I think it's under embelishments, or you can do a search for fur cuffs, that should bring it up too.
Thanks! I think I'll have to try that one :thumbsup2 My dh and I have been making the girls hooded princess capes we're about to finish the 2nd one, I'll have the girls model them tomorrow and take some pictures to post, if I can get them to cooperate

:tink:Alix

Cool that your hubby is helping! I can't wait to see pictures!

ETA: I also made an I-Spy bag  While I was rummaging in the girls bathroom for little stuff, I found a make-up bag that has vinyl on both sides! I filled it up, glued the zipper and glued ribbon over the zipper! I wanted to make some tonight so Emma might stay occupied in Church tomorrow (Thanks UM ;) ) but this thing is too noisy! I'm gonna pick up some fleece tomorrow and start making these for Christmas gifts for all the kids on my list! BTW, where do you find the non-noisy vinyl?

I thought the one I made was a bit too noisy too. I am wondering if thinner vinyl would work better, ours was pretty thick. Ours are fleece, so if you don't have a really really quiet church, that might work. We might try ours out at the meeting tomorrow, but I'm not sure. My Dad is giving the main talk, so I really want Lydia nice and quiet!

I'll second the shower trick...my oldest has tight ringlets too, and we learned long ago it can't be brushed when it's dry. There's a really good book for managing curls called Curly Girl by Lorraine Massey. Marissapiano.jpg

She is GORGEOUS!!!!! I have been using only conditioner in Lydia's hair for awhile now. It gets it clean without making it totally unmanageable. It has made our lives a lot easier! We also have a nice wide tooth comb that I use in the bath for her.

Well, I finally got my DD4 to model her casual princess outfit! And no I will not apologize for the falling down ponytail hair!:rotfl: Nor for my messy living room!:rotfl2: You know how dangerous cleaning is!

She looks adorable in it!!!

Go you!!! :cheer2:

Spongie, you and Utah Momma's kids are much cuter than those polygamists kids. We don't believe that for a second!

Sorry to hear about your burn and now your tumble down the stairs:sad1: Ouch.

Hope you feel better soon. Yay for DH buying you a lamp and cleaning up!
Take it easy.
thanks , i am feeling a whole lot better, i am avoiding the stairs:goodvibes

th_IMG_5435.jpg

Anyone have any suggestions for a girl who is 6 almost 7?

I also found this adorable fleece
th_IMG_5433.jpg

.
i would say a twirl top and a ruffle on the bottom of some pants, i love the mickey how cute..

:lmao:

:rotfl2: I would be in Heaven if I was only a few hours away in the UP. The drive from Colorado takes forever...hahaha...well it seems like forever when you are not a road-type gal. Even though I hate to fly I prefer to get there faster by airplane!! I am definitely going to Michigan this next summer, if not before. My twin sister who lives in Oregon is going with me!!! Yeah!!!

Only an hour away...man you guys really are lucky!!! Colorado is a beautiful state but there's nothing like being close to the ones you love! I wish we were headed there for Thanksgiving but this year we are spending it with my DH's family in Arizona! However, he waited forever to get the tickets and now we fly out at 12:45pm on Thanksgiving DAY and by the time we get to his parents house it will be after 6pm....BUT they are all eating Thanksgiving dinner at 1pm!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rolleyes1 So I hope there are some leftovers...not my favorite way to spend Thanksgiving Day!!! Oh well. Hahahaha
wow good luck to you and have a safe flight i hope you get to eat also

Thought I'd share the peasant top pattern from YCMT that I made for dd...I think it turned out OK, but the sleeves are a little short. I had some leftover snowman fabric from the stipwork jumper, so I used it for this top. I also did the ruffle with my new ruffler foot, and I am so, so happy that I bought the ruffler foot and return the gathering foot!

absolutely love it you sold me, and i am already in 3 groups...

okay i lost my other post's i do not like that,,,, pirate: but anyways all beautiful outfits posted.
i am glad that Ireland is feeling better she looks really good too

I love that pillow panel, you did such a good job on those!

I bought a ruffler today, and OMG...I zipped through 180" of fabric in record time!!! I think that calls for a repost of this picture:
th_003.jpg

yeah, that is the outfit she made Corey when he was 1, and here he wearing it at 15.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: That gets funnier every time I see it! And I can't decide what's the funniest part, Heather making that or Corey wearing it! You know I love you Heather, but that is too funny! And believe me, if I had pics of my sewing disasters, I'd most definitely share, but alas they all have been destroyed!!! Well, I wouldn't call those a disaster, they are wearable!

I thought the one I made was a bit too noisy too. I am wondering if thinner vinyl would work better, ours was pretty thick. Ours are fleece, so if you don't have a really really quiet church, that might work.

Yeah, I'm wondering about that vinyl too. Do you think a clear shower curtain would work? I only thought about that because I washed mine yesterday and it got shredded :scared1: So I have to buy a new one today! I bet it was a funny sight in the shower this morning, hugging the wall while the water sprayed on the wall to prevent it flooding the bathroom! :rotfl: The fabric curtain is still there, but I didn't want it getting too wet either!

Welcome Alix! I am fairly new here as well and also a beginner at this custom/sewing and I am having so much fun! The first thing I sew was a twirl skirt, then a T-shirt dress and then a stripwork jumper. Last week, I did the peasant dress....I am sleep deprived (I usually stay up to sew after my dd and ds go to bed), but I am having fun sewing!

So, I've been lurking for a little while now and I wanted to introduce myself. I'm Alix, I'm 28 and have three little girls (5, 5, and 3 1/2). I'm a preschool teacher, which is so much fun, but you definitely don't do it for the money, lol. That is TOO adorable! I am pretty sure if my dd see that, she will want one with Sleeping beauty on it.

Very Cute! Is AbbyGrace wearing a pettiskirt bigger than she is? :rotfl:

The petti is pretty big! But I think it is very, very cute. She loves to wear it, and we love the comments we get when she's dressed in it. Thanks evreyone for your comments!

LVTX_11-17-2007_0137_1.jpg

Shannon,
Why would there be a reason to apologize? Your kids are adorable!!!! (You know the Santa lap pic always make me cry:cloud9: (In a good way). Is Abbygrace wearing the pettiskirt? I had not thought of that :)

Cindee

That is some pettiskirt! Did you show it to us with her standing up? I can't remember. They look so cute!

I can't add anything to the curly hair discussion, as my hair is stick straight, but I wanted to remark that you made that dress? Wow, it is beautiful, as is your daughter.

Hee, she is doing the JoJo pose! I love that idea and I can't wait for an opportunity to copy it!

What beautiful kids! I love the present on the shirts, so cute!

:scared1: Yikes...sounds like the shoes may need to go...hahaha!!!

I think I will try that shirring stuff....have no idea on what just yet but wish me luck....!! LOL

Noooooo, they are so cute! I can't give them up!

Good luck with shirring: can't wait to see what you make!

Hi All, This is what I finished this morning.
288850550.jpg

I hope everyone is staying warm...brrr....

Wow, beautiful as always! I love the minnie dot with the animal print. And those knee socks, so stinkin' cute!

I ironed (with magic sizing, thank you!) and cut out pieces for my first Christmas outfit! I so excited to be done with Thanksgiving and moving on to the new stuff. Seeing all the Christmas stuff is getting me so excited!

So yesterday I went to Hancock Fabric, and they had some Minnie Mouse Dot fabric and I bought about three yards of it! DD was pretty excited to see the fabric when I got home with it. Can someone tell me where I can get a pattern to make a Minnie Mouse dress...she would love one for Chef Mickey when we go Disney next year...? Thanks again!!!!

I bought a ruffler today, and OMG...I zipped through 180" of fabric in record time!!! HI - I think I have a love hate relationship with mine - any suggestions to make it go smoothly????? I've watched the online tutorial, played with it etc...

For the eye spy bag, can you buy that vinyl at the store and sew it together????? i have no idea, i was just curious....

Thanks, wendy

LONG post coming...sorry, I've only had time to skim recently, but this morning got caught up for real!!

Josephine wore this to school yesterday. it has nursery rhymes all over it. I made capri length cut on the bottoms and I think they may be a tad toooo small.
IMG_3544.jpg
I love this! I think I posted a quick comment about the fabric earlier, but I really really love the whole outfit! I agree that you could add another ruffle to make the jeans longer, or if it's close to a size four, ship it on to MD!!!

My boys flew to bed in "Lightnin' time tonight!!!:lmao: I think I'm getting the hang of the appliques.:thumbsup2 Look at what y'all inspired in me:scratchin  (couldn't get a real good photo of the total wording on the applique)....
KachowBros.jpg

KACHOW Y'all!!!

How cute! I was going to make sleep pants for our whole family for Christmas, but then when I priced the flannel it came out to about 10 bucks a piece, and on top of that thread, elastic, and my time, and I decided to skip it. Now I am re-thinking!!

Hi All, This is what I finished this morning.

I hope everyone is staying warm...brrr....

This outfit is darling. I'm glad her face seems to be healing quickly too. Any left over side effects from the concussion? My oldest had a concussion from Lacrosse last spring, and he was so sleepy for 2 weeks!!

And one more photo to show you that the pants, while too long, aren't as bad as they looked in the other photo. Okay, really just because I thought it was a cute photo. She is watching an airplane. Drama Queen? She is apprenticed to a pro (DD10).

DSCN2953.jpg

This is great! I love the look on her face! The outfit looks sweet too!

This is fabulous! Why is it "casual"??? I think it's beautiful!!

I bet it was a funny sight in the shower this morning, hugging the wall while the water sprayed on the wall to prevent it flooding the bathroom! :rotfl: !

I don't know if it was funny in the shower, but it is hilarious here!!!!:rotfl2:

This is so pretty! Are you planning a trip to Animal Kingdom?

DSCN2949.jpg

My first shirring, loved it! The pants turned out a little long. They were my first attempt at jeans and I was too chicken to cut them or open them up so I just threw stuff on top. After Christmas I will probably recycle them into Valentine's jeans and do something more brave.

Gorgeous outfits! You have been busy! Did you make the beaded headband? It is really pretty. Your children are adorable.
