Oh boy it takes FOREVER!! We do the same thing in the shower. Wash it and condition it and brush it while still in there. Then we brush it onces she is out of the shower, and I braid it. That way it stays that way over night. and not too bad to brush out in the morning.
Georgia with her autism has A LOT of sensory issues. and washing her hair period is hard, but add on brushing those curls, its painful for her!! and me too.
We just start at the bottom and work our way up gently. and Braids are the key for us. They help more then you could believe!
We like braids too!!! If we are going somewhere in the morning, braids are a MUST!!! Your daughter's hair is so gorgeous!
I musta missed something, what are these? I'm gonna check out Ts bookmarks, but anyone have pics? The Church comment really got my attention!!!!
Mine is in the car, or I would take a picture of it for you. The kids have been having fun playing with it! I made one out of fleece and it only has one window. Although, the kids think there should be two so it would be easier. They are so easy to do, I will probably try one like that too!
Bag #1
The bags are from theoffice supply isle at Wal-Mart. I put the stuff in (I used rice. Rinse it first & dry it in the oven so get rid of the powder) & glued the zipper shut, pulled of the zipper pull & then glued the ribbon over the zipper.
That is really cute!
ok, so far this morning I have finished the Grinch tee and spinny skirt (yeah!!!), the Peguin spinny shirt, a flannel pillowcase for DD (It was cold here agin this morning) and just for you Teresajoy, a matching flannel sleeping bag for Jord!
I will try and post pictures later as a certain 6 year old woke up with a bad case of the grumps when she found out I did not plan to go to a theme park today and is not in a posing mood
Now I have to choose between moving on to fleece or hairbows

I KNOW maybe fleece hairbows! : kidding... it is not that cold!
Btw: I spoke to my Mother last night, her husband is home from the hospital (I still don't have the whole story, he has to go back to the DRs next week for more tests.) Than you to those that included him in their prayers.
Cindee
Yeah, a sleeping bag for Jord!!!! We ate at Applebees today, and there was a little box of toys for the kids to play with. And, guess what was in there???? Jord's cousin!!! We were doing a video review for ExpoTV, so I held it up and taped saying, "Look it's Jord!" My son looked at me like I was crazy, but the girls know who Jord is!
And REALLY how DARE you not take that child to a theme park????
I'm glad to hear your Mom's husband is doing better.
Oh, how sweet! I'm all teary eyed, too!! My dad took Teresa's DDs to her father/daughter dance last year, too. It was so special!
It was so sweet! The girls were beyond excited, and once Dad got use to the idea, I think he was excited too! He even bought them little boxes of chocolate and chocolate roses to give to them before he took them! Brian couldn't take them, because they changed the night of the father daughter dance and he had to work.
Hi All, This is what I finished this morning.
I hope everyone is staying warm...brrr....
I LOVE this!!! It looks like Ireland is healing up really well. How is she feeling? She is such a pretty girl!
What fabulous pictures on this thread!
I'm thinking aout sewing again (after a 12 year hiatus) and may treat myself to a new machine. So much has changed in 12 years so I am looking for recommendations.
I do not quilt, but would be using the machine to make my dd4.5 dresses and skirts. I may sew myself a few things too. I'm intrigued by the computerized embrodery features I've seen. I'm budgeting 250-350, and I could probably go a bit higher.
TIA!

!!!!! Make sure you check out the bookmarks for lots of free patterns and tips.
Everytime I read about kids with their grandparents it makes me teary. My dad died 8 years ago and my mom died 2 years ago. DH's mom died about 12 years ago. DH's dad and step mom live in Canada and we don't see them that much. My parents were the BEST grandparents. I miss them, for my kids' sake even more than my own.

That is so sad I'm so sorry your parents are gone, that just makes me cry.
Why can you never get 4 kids to look good in one photo? And please disregard the yard. Obviously I sew instead of doing yardwork.
Your kids are GORGEOUS!!!! WOW!!! They all look so cute!
Nana,
thank you for the recomendations. My mother used to serge as well as sew. I was always so intimidated by that machine! It looks like it would take me 10 hours just to get that sucker threaded!
I bought a pattern today (jumper for my dd) and it was $9.00!
It's Quick Sew (not a name I'm familiar with). Are patterns really that expensive these days! I'm definately going to have to make this jumper several times! I've been out of it for 12 years, but I seem to remember buygin patterns for around three bucks.
I was going to answer you about the pattern prices, but I see my sister, Heathersue allready did. So, I will just say, she is right, patterns go on sale a lot at Joann's and Hancocks. And there are always the free ones in the bookmarks.
First of all

!! I started sewing after a 15 year hiatus (caused by a baby outfit for my nephew that went horribly wrong) after finding this thread. Warning: It's addictive!
I think that calls for a repost of this picture:
yeah, that is the outfit she made Corey when he was 1, and here he wearing it at 15.
Third, I have a 4.5 year old DD, too!
I have a 4 11/12 year old!
So, I've been lurking for a little while now and I wanted to introduce myself. I'm Alix, I'm 28 and have three little girls (5, 5, and 3 1/2). I'm a preschool teacher, which is so much fun, but you definitely don't do it for the money, lol. I've been drooling over all the creations everyone has posted...you all make it look so easy, while I'm totally clueless

. My aunt gave me a sewing machine that she bought thinking she'd use it, but she never did so she passed it along to me

. I would love to try making some cute outfits for my girls for our Disney trip in January

, anyone have any suggestions where to start?? I'm a pretty quick learner and relatively good at following directions. Thanks for any help you can give me and I look forward to seeing more of everyone's amazing creations!!!
Alix

Alix!!!!! So nice to have you here!!!
Can someone tell me where the instructions are for those furry cuffs?
I got yarn and now I need instructions.
Thanks.
Susan
They are in the bookmarks. I think it's under embelishments, or you can do a search for fur cuffs, that should bring it up too.
Thanks! I think I'll have to try that one

My dh and I have been making the girls hooded princess capes we're about to finish the 2nd one, I'll have the girls model them tomorrow and take some pictures to post, if I can get them to cooperate

Alix
Cool that your hubby is helping! I can't wait to see pictures!
ETA: I also made an I-Spy bag

While I was rummaging in the girls bathroom for little stuff, I found a make-up bag that has vinyl on both sides! I filled it up, glued the zipper and glued ribbon over the zipper! I wanted to make some tonight so Emma might stay occupied in Church tomorrow (Thanks UM

) but this thing is too noisy! I'm gonna pick up some fleece tomorrow and start making these for Christmas gifts for all the kids on my list! BTW, where do you find the non-noisy vinyl?
I thought the one I made was a bit too noisy too. I am wondering if thinner vinyl would work better, ours was pretty thick. Ours are fleece, so if you don't have a really really quiet church, that might work. We might try ours out at the meeting tomorrow, but I'm not sure. My Dad is giving the main talk, so I really want Lydia nice and quiet!
I'll second the shower trick...my oldest has tight ringlets too, and we learned long ago it can't be brushed when it's dry. There's a really good book for managing curls called Curly Girl by Lorraine Massey. Many of the tips and tricks she has for curls we had already figured out by the time someone recommended the book to us, but reading it helped us conquer Marissa's curls. The biggest advice was to not wash so often, but to use conditioner with every shower, she combs out the knots when its still goopy with conditioner, and that helps too. Now that she's 15, she does her own hair, but still sleeps in that braid to keep it under control too.
Here's a recent picture...to keep it sort of on topic, I made her dress.

http://
She is GORGEOUS!!!!! I have been using only conditioner in Lydia's hair for awhile now. It gets it clean without making it totally unmanageable. It has made our lives a lot easier! We also have a nice wide tooth comb that I use in the bath for her.
Well, I finally got my DD4 to model her casual princess outfit! And no I will not apologize for the falling down ponytail hair!

Nor for my messy living room!

You know how dangerous cleaning is!
She looks adorable in it!!!
I bought a ruffler today, and OMG...I zipped through 180" of fabric in record time!!! Stitching them onto the skirt fabric with my serger took even less time than I thought possible (I skipped pinning) I can't wait to time myself on a twirl skirt because pulling gathers and pinning each row took FOREVER!!!
Go you!!!
