My boys flew to bed in "Lightnin' time tonight!!! I think I'm getting the hang of the appliques. Look at what y'all inspired in me (couldn't get a real good photo of the total wording on the applique)....

I've been out of the DISBoutique thread for a while (my machine died and I got so frustrated), but I've been going back through the last few pages and it's so much fun to see all the new outfits and faces.

I finally have something to share again (borrowed my mom's machine to make some stuff) so here's what I've made. It's not very fancy -- mine are more on the side of "homemade" versus "custom."

I don't quite have the hang of capri pants yet. LOL! Both of these are *supposed* to be capris but they ended up being ankle length. Oops.

For MVMCP:

I've also started playing around with polymer clay. DD decided at the last minute that she wanted to be Buzz Lightyear (DS's old costume) so I decided to "girlify" it with some hairbows. She got lots of attention.

I also made these for our trip:

I think I might try my hand at a *very* simple applique this weekend because I'm feeling guilty about not making anything for DS. If that doesn't work, I might be heading over to the DISigns board to see if I can find a good iron-on.

Welcome Back! I love the apron top. I have some of that fabric and those tops are so easy! I think I will make one of those for my DD! THanks for the inspiration.

Well, I havent done any sewing today, but taking care of a sicky hubby. Sooo he didnt get to go to the father daughter dance with Georgia. But My dad took her instead. She is sooo excited. Georgia looks soooo beautiful , I almost got teary.

One of the tags (the other side of the tags has their name & 'I Spy With My Little Eye')

The bags are from theoffice supply isle at Wal-Mart. I put the stuff in (I used rice. Rinse it first & dry it in the oven so get rid of the powder) & glued the zipper shut, pulled of the zipper pull & then glued the ribbon over the zipper.

These are really cool! I may have to make one!

Stephres, sorry I didn't go back far enough to post your outfit. I love the Thanksgiving outfit. Also, Scrappy's Sweater was adorable. DId someone knit it? Our little Sophie hates the cold weather.

ok, so far this morning I have finished the Grinch tee and spinny skirt (yeah!!!), the Peguin spinny shirt, a flannel pillowcase for DD (It was cold here agin this morning) and just for you Teresajoy, a matching flannel sleeping bag for Jord!

I will try and post pictures later as a certain 6 year old woke up with a bad case of the grumps when she found out I did not plan to go to a theme park today and is not in a posing mood

Now I have to choose between moving on to fleece or hairbows I KNOW maybe fleece hairbows! kidding... it is not that cold!

Btw: I spoke to my Mother last night, her husband is home from the hospital (I still don't have the whole story, he has to go back to the DRs next week for more tests.) Than you to those that included him in their prayers.

I am hearing so many people ask questions and having problems I am scared to even try to attempt one. let alone 3 of them. It looks so simple to make. I wonder why it is so tuff.

It's not a difficult pattern, but the fit seems to be a little "off".

I'm just so proud of you! I think you did a FANTASTIC job on the appliques and the bow!! Woo-hoo!!

I always say that if Henry hates my shoes, then they must be cute!

Oh that is a sweet deal...two Christmas for you guys!!! Aww, I hope you have a nice flight. I am pretty lucky in that department because my DD has always been so very good on all the flights she has been on. Just make sure you take lots of goodies for them to play with and snacks to eat. My little one loves to draw so coloring books always work for her.

So do you think the flight would be easier to deal with if the plane were heading to WDW instead of Arizona????

Tessa was pretty good on the trips, but we always had about 1/2 hour of "melt-down". She always had plenty to do and lots of snacks, but she would just be sick of the whole thing after 2 hours.

YES, the flight would be easier if we were heading to WDW!!! I can't wait until May!!!

I LOVE these!! Wow, you are the applique queen!!! Your boys are absolutely adorable! I've got some of that fabric you used for the pants.

So cute! You did a great job on all of these! I especially like the apron top and the adorable alien bow!!!

Oh, how sweet! I'm all teary eyed, too!! My dad took Teresa's DDs to her father/daughter dance last year, too. It was so special!

I've got Minnie Dot! I had Teresa pick some up for me before someone bought out the whole bolt at WalMart. I paid $2.12 yard for it (that includes tax). It usually costs me about $2 to ship it out. If you want some, PM me.

I'm thinking aout sewing again (after a 12 year hiatus) and may treat myself to a new machine. So much has changed in 12 years so I am looking for recommendations.

I do not quilt, but would be using the machine to make my dd4.5 dresses and skirts. I may sew myself a few things too. I'm intrigued by the computerized embrodery features I've seen. I'm budgeting 250-350, and I could probably go a bit higher.

Okay I must get the pattern for the corset top and give it a try! Is it the pattern from ycmt? i really really like this! And yes, baby is feeling much better today!

I used the pattern from YCMT for the corset top. Being a pattern girl, I am not really comfortable with the directions (they are too vague for me) but I do like the pictures and it was really easy. I do not like how it looks on the inside so I am already thinking of how I can tweak it. Would you guys pay me $10 if I improved it (just kidding, do not report me!)?

Wow!!!! Now, that is some shirring! The most I've done at once is three rows! That is adorable! Now you've encouraged me to try a corset, I've been scared of those!

It really is easy. It's just a tube with a lot of shirring!

OMG this is so DARLING....I really love how this turned out. I wish I had made DD a Thanksgiving outfit like this but I went from Halloween right to Christmas. What was I thinking? Your outfit is so perfect. Okay, I may have missed all the talk about shirring but do you think a novice like me can do something like that??? Is there a link or "how-to" posted somewhere?

My feet are covered in band-aids and hurt but I still persist in wearing those shoes. I keep thinking I just need to break them in, but I think my feet are the ones breaking!

The shirring was very easy. There were directions with the corset directions, but there were also directions on the back of the package of elastic thread. I laughed when I did and found how easy it really was. I was so silly for avoiding it!

Georgia is so beautiful! Everytime I read about kids with their grandparents it makes me teary. My dad died 8 years ago and my mom died 2 years ago. DH's mom died about 12 years ago. DH's dad and step mom live in Canada and we don't see them that much. My parents were the BEST grandparents. I miss them, for my kids' sake even more than my own.

Okay, Here is my recommendation: If I had a buget similar to yours I would get the Brother CS 6000i which is a computerized sewing machine. It has a very important feature which is that the needle stops automatically in the down position which helps when pivoting but it also helps TREMENDOUSLY when doing applique work!!!! It also has a one-step button hole feature. It does come with some quilting extras but I don't quilt so their also not to important to me. Walmart stores who still have their fabric depts have this machine for $186.00. I LOVE mine though I bought mine 2.5 years ago and paid more for it. Then I would go to Walmart.com and get the Brother Serger for $239.00 (if you don't have a serger). Now a few people here have purchased the Brother SE270 which is a computerized sewing and Embroidery machine, I have heard mixed reviews on it. It runs about 400.00. Some like it and others have threatened to throw it down a flight of stairs or out a second story window...

Okay, my photos finished downloading. This morning we took the kids to a local scrapbook store to get their photos taken with Santa so I finally got them dressed up in their Christmas outfits. I was up late making bows for DD2. I have been making bows for 10 years now and pretty much never been happy with the way they turn out. I finally decided to try the loopy bows because to make a long, boring story short, they sort of solve/hide what I feel are some of my bow-making flaws, and I love them! This pair was a definite learning experience, but next time I think they may turn out pretty well! (Obviously I did not make DSs' outfits, but couldn't leave the handsome guys out!)

Why can you never get 4 kids to look good in one photo? And please disregard the yard. Obviously I sew instead of doing yardwork.

Lily has the mixy-matchy 4 piece Christmas ensemble:

My first shirring, loved it! The pants turned out a little long. They were my first attempt at jeans and I was too chicken to cut them or open them up so I just threw stuff on top. After Christmas I will probably recycle them into Valentine's jeans and do something more brave.

And one more photo to show you that the pants, while too long, aren't as bad as they looked in the other photo. Okay, really just because I thought it was a cute photo. She is watching an airplane. Drama Queen? She is apprenticed to a pro (DD10).

Thanks Tom! That is high praise coming from you! I bought all of the fabric, including the panels I used for appliques at yummyfabrics.com just click on Christmas fabric. The panel comes with 8 blocks.

thank you for the recomendations. My mother used to serge as well as sew. I was always so intimidated by that machine! It looks like it would take me 10 hours just to get that sucker threaded!

I bought a pattern today (jumper for my dd) and it was $9.00!

It's Quick Sew (not a name I'm familiar with). Are patterns really that expensive these days! I'm definately going to have to make this jumper several times! I've been out of it for 12 years, but I seem to remember buygin patterns for around three bucks.
