Has anybody appliqued by hand ? I'm afraid to do a Mickey head on the machine. The only thing i've made was a pillow case for a travel pillow. Let's just say I won't be posting any pictures. That should give you an idea of how it came out.

Here is something for all the boys out there!

Of course this could do for a girl too! I made it like the jeans where the edges will fray for a more boyish rugged look. Not sure if I'll do jeans with it or not, DS4 loves it so that is all that matters!

Love it, nice to see some boy fashions!

congrats on 1st places! and they are just sooooo cute how proud you must be my dd wants to do cheerleading but i just have mixed feelings, but after seeing this and how much fun they are having i may have to rethink it..

I think it is something to look into. but be aware of the practice times etc that go into it! Wheeww it can be time and money consuming.

And here is my first ever stripwork jumper! It was also pretty easy but don't look too closely at the ruffle on the bodice. Let's just say I learned and my next one will be better!

Don't be afraid to try the elastic thread shirring. It's really easy. The biggest problem I've had it making sure the elastic is wound on the bobbin semi-tightly. Once you're done shirring, a blast of steam works wonders to get the elastic to contract nicely. Both JoAnns and WalMart have elastic thread. Ours has it with the other packaged elastic.

But I have bigger problems....I just started my second twirl skirt (boy are they a blast to make!!!) and my feed dog is barkin...it actually is going "bang bang bang". I changed needles cause the last one broke when I tried sewing through too many layers of elastic and now I think I did something terrible to Mr. Reliable Feed-Dog......ohhhhhhhh the humanity of it
Any suggestions????

I have the coordination of a drunk moose but I hope that my DD is able to find some graceful movements in her blood somewhere. I would love for her to dance, tumble or cheer in the future - she's a bit young for all of that still but maybe we'll try tumbling next fall.

This is the portrait peasant dress from YCMT. You are right Heather, it was easy. I also used this pattern to make my other peasant top and just made the bodice longer (and I still need to add a ruffle on the bottom.) I was too scared to try the wonky YCMT peasant top pattern. Anyone looking to buy, I would recommend the portrait peasant dress pattern. You get the dress pattern, the rumba dress pattern, and you can easily convert it to just a top.

I love the pink and brown combination. I have been looking for fabric in those colors but haven't found just what I am looking for yet (could be because I am not sure what I am looking for but will know it when I see it ).

I haven't posted here since the summer when I made a couple ribbon shirts using iron on material. I actually tried to sew a Halloween ribbon shirt for my niece. I think I'll probably stick with using the iron on stuff. I really want to learn to sew like you all, but I don't have anyone to teach me!! I'm just struggling through it myself and it's so hard. Anyways, here's the shirt I made...

WHEW!! I'm all caught up now!! I've been so busy that I've been reading and not replying! So, to all those that I didn't go back to reply on, all of the new outfits are adorable!!

CastleCreations - I'm happy to see pics of Ireland, and it looks like she's feeling better (I hope). And, who couldn't be happy wearing that Cindy Loo Who outfit!!

I'm in the middle of making Christmas twirl skirts for the girls. I wanted to get them done in time for their pics with Santa yesterday, but that just didn't happen. But, hopefully they'll be done in time for our day trip to MVMCP.

And finally, now that my coffee cup is empty, I'm all caught up on the DISboutique and I have piles of laundry and dirty dishes to deal with, here is a shameless post of my little cheerleader.

She's the one "on top" as the flyer (which makes this mom nervous). She cheers for a little flag football team, and they decided to go to a couple of local competitions. They got 1st place in both, nevermind that they were the only ones in their category, because their group is 26 little girls.

She looks like she is having a blast! I would be a nervous wreck with others kids holding my own up!

I found my elastic thread at Joanns right in with the regular thread. I think it was by some metallic thread or something. It is Gutermann brand.

Thanks! I had a hard time finding fabric also. The two pink prints with brown I found on my big road trip to Hobby Lobby. The brown with pink dots I have seen online but I found it at a quilt shop. I couldn't really find another brown one so I just used plain and added the ric rac. I kinda hated mixing the nice, expensive fabric with the cheap stuff, but oh well. I'm happy with how it turned out.

Coming out of lurk mode to post the latest sewing project. I figured after making 2 tops without any complications I'd be ready to attempt sleeves, a collar and buttons Soooo, I thought I would compensate for adding these new complications by choosing one of those Kwik Sew Learn to Sew patterns I mean, they say they are designed for beginning sewers so it should have been easy right Well all I can say is pphhhhhtttt (that's a raspberry that is). If it wasn't for my sewing I would have never figured it out. Am I doomed to be in sewing class forever and never be able to understand pattern instrcutions I managed to keep my forehead away from nearby walls during moments of frustration and convinced myself that the seam ripper is indeed my friend. I showed my family and now they each want me to make them one too including DH and my dad! Oh boy...ok, done venting. So what do you guys think?

Great job! I know what you mean - people keep tossing sewing projects my way these days. Have fun on Dad and DH's shirts! LOL

Here's my latest twirl skirt. I was very excited to find a shirt at Target that matches the pink perfectly. Got 2 of these done today. The ruffler foot and I are slowly becoming friends.

I haven't been in a few days, and I am soo loving all the new outfits.

We leave for our Disneyland trip in 9 days!!! which makes me think CRAP! I need to get to sewing. I have to make DD a few outfits, and her neck travel pillow with matching planket. She picked out her fleece for that today. I also go my matching lavender fabric that matches the Princess fabric I got. Hopefully it will be enough to make top for her. I am still waiting on some fabric to ship to me. I hope it comes soon!

I want to make matching bows for the outfits, as I have the instructions to make the hair bows, I am not very grand at it. But I guess one can only try right? I have made a few bows, none that I am specially proud of. but I say they are getting better.

I found a charting program for my hidden mickey head for a hat for dd. So I need to get to my needles. As well as knitting up a shawl for dd for her dress to wear for the father daughter dance her school is doing. Its so very exciting. I really amd tempted to sneak in and take a few pictures. hehehe I was going to make her dress, but she found one that she HAD TO HAVE at Wal Mart. and for $17 it actually saved me money. Its very pretty. I guess we cant make everything for the kids...can we?? At least I still have some part of making it special for her.

I bought my bling at JoAnn - they already have the glue on the back - you can set then with your iron - but I bought the little heat tool they have there (I think it was $13 - and I used a 40% off) so you can set each one individually. That was easier for me than the iron.
