I have kind of a silly question. I am doing the fabric swap (I figure most of you check this thread more often than the other one, I do :goodvibes ) and I don't typically prewash my fabric. Rather than putting all kinds of fabric in the laundry, I have enough laundry I should be doing!!!! Can I just cut like an 8 inch strip (I am doing the 6x6 swap) and it shouldn't shrink more than 2 inches should it? Also will I have a problem with fraying? THanks for the help. I know I should just prewash my fabrics, but I have to get them to my stash before my DH finds them. The laundry is NOT a good place to stash them!!!:rotfl2:
We're in 2 of the same fabric swap groups & I definitely don't have a problem with you skipping the prewashing part. :) Just include a little extra.

I'll have to re-wash all the pre-washed swaps I get.:guilty: My Ds has lots of allergies & it can only be washed in Tide without fabric softener of any kind. He'll get bad skin flare ups if it's any way different. :confused3 So I'll wash the swaps, sew the quilts & wash again to make sure it doesn't irritate him. ;)

way cute i love the casual princess i would love to make that for my dd who is 6
Ok, I'm all caught up! Hooray! There have been some seriously cute outfits posted! It's always so fun for me to come on and see what everyone's come up with!

I'm seriously in awe of Lisa's and Camelot's stashes! Holy schneikes! I believe I would get lost in all that fabric!

And I am keeping Castle's little Ireland and mytwotinks and her friend in my thoughts and prayers.

I've finished a pair of decoupage jeans for DD and almost finished DS's Mickey shirt - it just needs buttons, but do you guys think I should use black buttons or white buttons? I can't decide.

The shirts are pretty much CASEd from you know where.

I gotta keep sewing - a little less than a month to go!
i know i am behind but if you want the buttons to be hidden i would say white but if it was me i would do yellow or red

Hi everyone, don't want to make you all sad, but I just can't stop thinking and crying. This morning when I dropped DS5 Luke off at school I found out that one of his little fellow pre-schoolers, a cute little girl named Ashley, has inoperable brain cancer. She turned 5 in October, 2 days before my DS. I guess they were approved by Make-a-Wish for a trip to Disneyworld on Oct. 26, and since her mom is pregnant and won't be able to travel in a few weeks, they actually got to go to Disneyworld on October 29th. I was feeling really bad and wishing I'd had a way of making her a custom outfit for her trip. Anyhow, here is my thought, but I'm not sure about it. We do not know her or her family. She has a different teacher than DS so he likely only knows her from the playground and singing time. I was thinking I could make her like a minnie dot skirt or something with a mickey (minnie) head t-shirt. I looked at her website at caringbridge.org and her parents talk a lot about their faith and how people need to understand they are expecting a miracle. Their website also states that on an October 3rd MRI her tumor had doubled in size. My thought was if I made her an after the fact outfit, I could include in a letter that I hoped it reminded her of a fun trip and I hoped she would wear it on a future Disney trip. I don't know. If you were her parents would that seem weird? I just can't stop thinking about her. She even looks like my kids. She has also recently been through chemo, so I don't even know where to begin estimating her size. Let me know what you think. Thanks
that is a hard one , i would prob talk to the parents but i love the suggestion of getting her a stuffed minnie to hold .
Here is my latest. Ireland was feeling well enough to pose. I took her splint off for the pictures...:sad2: Yes I know...bad mommy...she has to wear it for 4 weeks...:sad1:

I did the Cindy Loo Who braids on her with the wire in them to make them stand out. Now she wants to wear them to school like that...:scared1:
that outfit is adoraaable and poor Ireland she looks like she is in pain but fighting threw it , hugs and kisses to her , and i say let her wear her hair like that to school it is adorable on her.:goodvibes well off to do the stuff i need to do so i can get sewing something , Thank you for updating the photo bucket that is dd wish sewing place she goes on there and looks through the outfits and chooses the one's that she wants me to CASE (and yes she uses those exact words)everyone have a great friday and yes i am feeling alot better except for my man voice:eek:

MY2ANGELS- your outfits look great!! How was that peasant top pattern, I'm planning on making a long sleeved one for littles christmas outfit.

Thanks! You inspired me! I have to say it was alot easier than I had expected. I made the shirt last night. I did however use elastic thread instead of the bias tape and elastic method. It was alot faster using the thread.

So cute! I love the Minnie one on and I can't wait to see the "casual princess" with the applique/iron on. Her toes are so cute (one of the things I miss about not having a baby).
thank you! I hope I can find something for it before we leave! It's funny you mention her toes, because when I uploaded the pics it's the first thing I thought as well!:)

mytwotinks and jham - I don't have any great advice for either of you, but I will keep both families in my prayers. I'm sure that any act of kindness is greatly appreciated by these families.

These are fabulous, Lori!! I was going to say red or yellow buttons. I'm a big help, huh? ;)

It is very easy! You use bias tape and sew it around on the inside. Then you thread the elastic through and sew it shut. HTH!

Thank you!! I knew it had to be something simple, but I just couldn't work it out in my head.

Thanks so much everyone! Black buttons it is!

jham, I'm so sorry to hear about that little girl. That just breaks my heart. You are so sweet to want to do something like that for her!

Castle, that Grinch custom is AWESOME! Glad to see that Ireland is feeling a little better!

Oh, that mickey fabric is actually from a sheet set that I bought and cut up!

I have been looking for this sheet set since someone made an outfit many months ago. Do you know what the name of the sheet set is?

I have heard that it is faster using elastic thread, but I am too askeered to try something new, just like with ruffles. I like my slow but familiar methods!

Hey, have you checked out the creative disigns board? They can design something and then you can print it out on iron on paper and do it that way. They do some really cute stuff.

To show that I have been doing something, here is what I made for my neighbor with the leftover turkey fabric. I am going to do something for her sister too, just haven't decided what. She is supposed to bring me some jeans and I am going to add ribbon like I did with M's:

Shoot! They are all wonky. I'll try to fix later, I have to go to the bus stop!

Well, this was my first attempt with that top and everyone told me to use the elastic thread, that it was faster and easier, so I thought I might as well try it! When I finished the top I did have to shrink it up with my iron but it was sooo easy! So don't be scared, if a newbie like me can do it anybody can! Thanks for the advice, I am going to take a look, and LOVE THAT TOP SOOO CUTE!

Steph , it was nice of you to make something for your neighbor- you're so thoughtful.

Jeez, I can't wait to have something new to show ya'll!!!
obesessedw/themouse- your pilgrim outfit is so cute!!! Gotto go surf for some christmas fabric!!

OH!!! :goodvibes and just a few minutes ago I got a call for an interview from the bloodbank. I said I would LOVE to come in for an interview and she said she was glad that I was excited and looked forward to meeting me. I'm a closer, you see, my resume may not always be impressive (though this time I'm more than qualified) but if I can get an interview- I'm gold. SO hopefully between my experience and charm I'll get the position. any and all pixie dust is welcome, it couldn't hurt!!

Hi there!
I stumbled across this thread via a google search earlier in the week. Wow, you guys are amazingly talented. I haven't read all 1200 + pages, but I've been looking at lots of the pictures. You all have inspired me to try some sewing for my kiddos. We will be heading for our very first Disney trip in December 2008, so I still have some time. I think I'm going to try a simple Thanksgiving skirt for my daughter, just to get my feet wet.

My guess is using the non-stretch fabric would end up having the gauchos too tight. Most patterns for stretch fabrics don't include as much ease as those for non-stretch. I'd suggest getting a stretchable corduroy, get a different pattern or do test gauchos using a non-stretch fabric that you wouldn't mind wasting if it doesn't fit. You might also use the next size up for width but keep the length the same - although I'd suggest trying that with fabric that you don't mind wasting just in case.

Thanks! I was afraid of that. This is actually the only pattern I could find for the gauchos in her size (10). Most of the patterns are size 8 and under. I suppose I could try to frankenpattern it with a pants pattern I have that I know fits well. I've just never tried to do that before. Anyway, thanks so much for your advice! ( I love all of your creations! )

The pilgrim fabric is made by Timeless Treasures. Not sure if I can post links on here or not. PM me if you want to know where I got it from!

Thanks for the kind words!
