WOW!!

I'm usually just lurking here, but I do try to keep up with all the posts. Well after being gone for a week, I'm finally caught up. Y'all have posted some great outfits!! I love all the Cinderella variations.

Here's why I've been away... and the reason I have been stocking up on Disney fabric since finding this board... my little princess is a week old today!

Congratulations! What a beautiful baby! Hope you're all doing well.

My daughter goes to a public school, and recently the teacher asked me to only dress my DD in "regular" clothes. Not custom stuff. I was very upset. The teacher said that my dd gets too much attention when she wears boutique style clothes. I told her too bad!! She isn't dressed over the top. She has never worn a petti to school or huge hairbows. Just jean outfits with cute tops, the most outrageous thing she's worn is a fur cuffed tee. I told her as long as she isn't breaking the dress code, she will wear whatever I want her to wear. I've seen how the other children dress and it's a shame. Messy hair, spaghetti strap tops, flip flops and shorts that I would have thrown away a long time ago.
I know some of the parents don't have a lot of money, but it's free to clean your child and comb their hair. It's a shame how some little one's get overlooked when it comes to simple things like that.

That would have ticked me off! If she is in dress code, then it isn't ANY of the teachers business! As long as your daughter is ok with the attention, then who cares? Man, that took a lot of nerve!

Oh man... I would complain to the board... heck.. I would send her to school in a petti tomorrow lol

I was going to leave this alone, but I need to post a defense of the "unbrushed" haired little girls.

I brush my DDs hair every morning and every night after her bath. Unfortunately she inherited my super fine hair, and she is a rough and tumble little thing.

Every morning, she gets on the bus with beautifully brushed hair, usually in a braid or pony tail, wearing a clean and impeccable outfit. Many of her clothes are hand-made "uniform" jumpers (It is public school uniforms, so I have leeway, as long as her jumpers are the right color).

Every afternoon, Huckleberry Finn-ette gets off of that bus. her hair is a rats nest, and NEVER still up, her clothes are a mess, her tights are stained and/or ripped, etc.

When she is with me, I see how quickly her hair gets in disarray. SHe will rubt he back of her head on the car-seat and get a huge rats nest that looks like I never brush her hair. I was even spoken to by the school social worker about her hair :scared1: . Fortunately DD was with me. I brushed DDs hair IN FRONT OF THE social worker, and she went out onto the playground with DH and her brother. Within 15 minutes, her hair was out of its ponytail and looked like I had done NOTHING to it. I got a big fat apology. :thumbsup2

Now, my DD is fastidious about what she wears, and prefers my home-made dresses. I know she's rough on clothes, and I deal with it. Some kids are. My DS would wear jeans or jean shorts ad a tee shrt very day of the year if we let him, ad he can't go two minutes without getting something on himself, either. SOme kids just seem to be walking dirt magnets. PLEASE don't judge how involved parents are based on their kids' appearance, either way.

OK, off of my soapbox.

Guess what just arrived! My new embroidery machine! WOO HOO!
I can't wait to get it out and play!

Congratulations! What a cutie!! :lovestruc

OK - I stink at appliquéing anything more than a Mickey Head or a simple shape. Is there someplace to order/buy hand-pieced appliqués? I looked on :wizard: but was having no luck. In specific I am looking for Princess heads. Thanks.

When I think of dirty I am not thinking of paint or food from lunch, dirt from the playground on clothes, I am thinking unwashed, never folded, pulled out of the dirty clothes. My son goes out to play and comes back in filthy half the time. We had the same issues with the carseat nest! Drove me nuts! And hair at the end of the day or even after recess is no indication of what they show up at school looking like.

I've only been sewing since summer and was wondering if anyone remebers any Easter Disney fabric that was out last year? If so, where could I start looking for it?

She is absolutly adorable! You must start having her model your creations. your never tooo young to be a boutique diva!

Oh let me say that this same thing happened to a friend of mine. what crap! The teacher told her to stop sending her in "good" clothing to school she may get them ruined. Her mom told the teacher if she gets messy don't worry about it, if it gets dirty I don't care. THe teacher had the nerve to tell her she sent her kids in "too nice of Clothes" to school. What a shame that these teachers have the right to say something like that. We go to a private uniformed school. It is free dress day on Wed and the preschool can wear any clothes they want. As you can imagine my kids were customs constantly and the teachers just love watching them go to school and what they will wear! Sometimes the principal and other teachers go to Anastasia's class on Wed. to see what she is wearing. It is a great compliment and the girls love the attention. Mind you Jojo's preschool class has snobby moms and when they saw her in her queen of hearts costume, they are all snobby now with me. So it is not the teachers but the parents that have attitudes. I ignore it and just move on. Jelousy is a bad thing to have!
Now let me address the "dirty kid thing". I agree with it to a point. jojo has that fine hair issue and it is messy and sometimes clothes are dirty when she comes home. BUT!!!!! She will be perfectly pressed and cute when she goes to school. I am always appaled at parents sending there kids in dirty dirty shoes and wrinkled uniforms. I can't understand ow you pay sooo much for that school and not care about your childs apperance. A lot of parents are busy and sometimes it is not in a time table to get everyone done up perfectly for school but some parents are just constant. In fact anastasia went to school in a ponytail 2 days in a row and they asked her if I was sick. Yep I was, so that says something I guess on how well the teachers notice things.

I've only been sewing since summer and was wondering if anyone remebers any Easter Disney fabric that was out last year? If so, where could I start looking for it?

There was some pooh easter fabric.

The Joann's near me was just getting some Easter fabric when I was there a few days ago. I saw Snoopy, but did not see any Disney (and I don't remember Disney Easter fabric from last year).

I have not seen any Easter Fabric at Walmart yet this year.

I’m glad you posted this. My DD5’s hair is very fine and ALWAYS looks horrendous. We brush it in the morning. By the time she’s done with Kindergarten, it looks like we didn’t do a thing to it. It doesn’t help that she won’t wear hair pieces.

I can’t believe the school social worker talked to you about it! How rude!

I have just had the nice clothes thing backfire on me though and I wonder if anyone else has had this problem. My oldest is 4 and goes to preschool 3 days a week. I always dress her nicely and she is picky about her clothes and likes to look nice too. She will wear jeans but prefers to wear a "dressy" outfit according to her. On the last day of school before Christmas break another mom stopped me and said that her daughter is jealous of mine because of her clothes. She also said that Grace (my oldest) gets too much attention and should be put in time out. Her mom wasn't upset about this and thought it was funny. I'm not upset either but I don't want her being picked on because of her clothes. I did ask to make sure that Grace was being nice to everyone and she said yes, it's just jealousy over clothes. Do you think I should worry or leave it alone? I guess I'm probably not going to change how I dress them but I don't want to make them social outcasts in school either!

If I'm understanding correctly, the little girl said your DD should be in "time out" and not the mom, right? It sounds like the mom needs to spend some time with her DD to build her self-confidence. That little girl probably wants some attention and thinks your DD is taking it away.

I'd say as long as your DD isn't bothered by the extra attention, let her continue to dress up as long as she wants. Unfortunately, many girls outgrow the willingness to wear boutique brands long before the mommy is ready. LOL My DD decided last summer that she doesn't want me to make her anything too attention getting. This first came up on the way home from a shopping trip where several ladies had complimented DD on her outfit. I guess the attention made her feel awkward. It was disappointing but I want her to be comfortable in what she wears so I've tried to keep the styles fairly simple. I've done simple appliques on tees and jeans and made some basic tiered twirl skirts.

How odd! I can understand a teacher maybe suggesting "regular clothes" thinking you'd be upset if the nicer things got messed up but not just because your DD got extra attention.

Thanks! We used to do alot more with him in them, but I was afraid they would get rejected and started redoing them without him, even the other day DH originally had him in the transformer one talking about it. It is like he doesn't know when to stop and just be quiet though.

I couldn't tell you a hanna anderson outfit from an old navy outfit, but as long as the child was dressed nice and clean (as in clothes, hair, teeth, etc) it wouldn't make a bit of difference to me!

A rejected review is so disapointing! I understand that!

I woulnd't know the difference between Hanna Anderson, Old Navy or Walmart for the most part! I think I dress my kids pretty nice, but most of their clothes come from Walmart or Kmart on clearance!

So many great outfits lately! Thanks for sharing! Here are a couple of things my DD is going to wear on our special, "Mommy and Me" trip. We leave the 30th of this month!!!

WOW! I would be so mad!!! Hopefully the teacher can't really push this one. I know in our school, there is a section of the handbook that says that any clothing that is distracting to the class can not be worn. Let's hope that the principal sees that she is just jealous and silly if she tries to push it!

I'm sorry you had to go through that! And, thanks for sharing this with us.

When I worked at the daycare, I loved to see kids in cute clothes. But, I hated it if the parents expected us to keep those kids perfectly clean! Kids will play, kids will get messy. Buy some Tide. Of course, most parents realize that, thank goodness!

Guess what just arrived! My new embroidery machine! WOO HOO!

YEAH!!!!!!!! HAVE FUN!!!

I saw Pooh Easter fabric at Hobby Lobby last year.

How weird!!!! My DH and I are highschool sweethearts too!!! and when I met him he had little hoop and ball earrings too and his tongue was pierced. He wasn't a skater, but he does play the drums. And his hair is almost as long as mine now! LOL!!

His hair is a little longer than it is in this picture. This was over the summer so it has grown out some more.

I love that your dh coordinates with the boys!! They are so cute, I mean handsome!
Wow!

We started dating in 1994 and were married July of 2001. Our girls were born in March of 2004 and July of 2006.

That is what I told my DH. One day he can just get a nice new set. He had those since he was like 13 so I think he can upgrade them. He said he spent his life savings on those drums. I sort of feel bad but not really. :rolleyes1
We were HS sweethearts too!! Graduated in 98', married in 99'-ds 1/04 and dd 7/06

I married my high school sweet heart too. Thankfully, my husband didn't! I graduated in 1987 (he graduated from the same HS in 78) and we were married in 1988. Corey came along in 92, Arminda in 98 and Lydia in 02. (hehe just thought I'd jump on the high school sweetheart bandwagon going on here! )

LOL!!! That actually wasn't on purpose, he isn't a good sport like that. :rotfl: But it just happens that our family likes plaid. I have a picture of me wear plaid shorts while the boys happen to be wearing theirs too.

I have already bought 3 different pairs of madras plaid shorts for the boys for this summer.

Thank you all for the nice comments on Miss. Katie in her tutu:) She has about 10 tutu's now and wants to wear one everyday! When I get her dressed she puts her hands up (like she is confused) and says, "where’s my tutu". She has a scarlet and gray "OSU buckeye" tutu that her daddy just loves her in.

I loved all of the customs that have been posted lately. I love the queen of hearts outfit.... So adorable!!!

I am also a gymbo addict. I have been dressing all of my kids in Gymboree since we got them. When they were not adopted yet and still had visits at Children’s Services we were told all of the time that they were the best-dressed foster kids they have ever seen. They always look great when we walk out the door. Well... there was the time my DS (3 at the time) wore a lion costume from baby gap for 6 months and called himself a puppy.

I have also been asked by the school (pre school and public elementary school) to not dress them so nice :confused3. Although they had to wear the clothes they had and they were all nice. Now we home school and it is 3:30 and we are all still in PJ's :scared1: Except Katie who is wearing a leopard print skirt and a pink tee shirt with grizzly bears on it??? This is her 20th non-matching outfit of the day.

I think I bought the pillowcase everyone is using for the Cindy dress. Is it a pink pillowcase with all of the princesses on one side? I can not see the other side so I am hoping it has Cinderella on it.

I am trying to get some customs together for our march trip. DD 10 is cheering at nationals in Orlando and only the girls are going. We will be going with a friend so Leanne is going to stay with them while Katie and I go to the MK for a girl’s day. If you only had one day would you have them wear a Minnie custom or princess?

Thanks for listening to me ramble :)
