You know I love that turkey fabric! I made three things with it! Love the fresh from a bath picture. It seems they are more cooperative that way, at least for me.

I know what Teresa and Heather say when they talk about me, even though it is not true! :fish:

Here is something I made this week. I think I love this fabric so much I might try a corset for Megan with it.

I just noticed DAVY JONES is going to be at EPCOT during Teresajoy's May trip. I think we should have a meet.......... But not during the show-I LOVE Davy JONES :)

OOOOHH OOOOOH OOOOOH!!!!!! I love Davy Jones!!!!!! I was SOOOOOO excited when I got to see the concert last year!!! He came SOOOOO close to us!!! I kept smacking Brian to take a picture, but Brian just sat there all awe struck as well!!! I mean he was THIS (I'm holding my arm aabout two feet out so you can tell how close he was) close to us!!!!!!!! :cloud9: I loved the Brady Bunch! I kept picturing him with the big old headphones on, one hand on his ear, singing.

Hey, Cindee, I wonder if we went to the same concert!

No worries! I am a PROUD Davy Jones fan and he has children OLDER than me. I go see him every year at Epcot. I have even gotten a hug from him! :cloud9: It is one of the few things I do for "me". My friends raz me about it, so I drag them along. It is a standing joke, but they go :) Morgan went for the first time 2 years ago (first tme I was not in the front row) and she LOVED it. She KNOWS Mommy goes to see Davy Jones.

I have gotten some GREAT pics and video of him.

Cindee

A hug??? I am SOOOOOO jealous!!!!!

I know what Teresa and Heather say when they talk about me, even though it is not true! :fish:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

We also talk about how cute Megan is!

Still trying to figure out what you did to my black skirted tetra too!

See, this will give us something else to talk about you about!!! This is adorable!

Not to show my age or anything, but I couldn't figure out why you guys were so concerned about "fishface" being at Epcot in May. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Then I realized you were not talking about Jack Sparrow's nemesis, but a former Monkee! DUH!!!!!!!!! I've had a bad 24 hours, but that's another topic.... see below.

That is very cute Steph! I need to get off my keester and make some Christmas customs!

Ok, it's my turn to vent......

Yesterday, while getting ready for Rylee, my freezer stopped working and everything was melted!!!!!!!! I thought maybe Abby didn't shut it all the way the night before when she put her milkshake in there. Nope, the whole thing is dead... fridge and all!

THEN.... DH arrives with everyone (7 total!) and tells me that the van battery has been going dead on him consistently over the weekend!

THEN.... I call Sears b/c our fridge compressor is under warranty, they inform me that the service tech has 24hrs to return my call. 24 HOURS!!!!!!! So it could be 5pm today before I hear from him. So, we took everything we could save to my neighbor's spare fridge in their garage which just happened to be empty!!! My silver lining? Maybe!

THEN... While making tortilla chips, I splattered hot grease onto my hand. It's ok, it was only a few drops and only hurts when I wash my hands in hot water. :headache:

If we weren't already scraping to get by, this wouldn't be a problem. But, since dh just all of my trip savings for going to WV and now to buy a van battery, I'm a little upset.

On the upside, RYLEE IS HERE!!!!!!!!!! She loves the Thanksgiving dress I made for her and she told ds "Daddy look at my dress, it's for Thanksdinner!" She crackys me up! I'm most definite that I will have more great stories to keep you ladies entertained for the next few days!!!!

Hi all, been lurking on the boards this past week, I kept thinking I'd get on and say hi to ya'll, but never seemed to put aside the time to do it....I have been working like a fiend to make some things, so here goes...

After spending the whole week figuring out the new machine (Brother cs6000i) and the serger (love this thing!), and the hemmer foot (in heaven) and the ruffler foot (this thing totally ROCKS! I second the person who said to check out the free video demo on ycmt...I read it earlier in the week and the sheets to figure out your ruffles are really helpful) I came up with a few things....

Here is my teeny-stash of fabrics I WAS going to use for skirts...
IMG_0034.jpg

I know it's not a big stash, but it's my stash and I wanted to use it.

I know I've missed alot of posts, there are some ADORABLE things you guys have created here. I'm so far behind, I'm not even going to TRY to go back through it, but suffice it to say I've been loving seeing ya'lls stuff.

Sorry to be such a downer. Dh tried to be sweet, but poor guy doesn't really get it. He doesn't realize how excited I was to make something for the girls. I'm sure I'll feel better tomorrow.

I'm off to find something a little more grownup for the girls to wear. Whatever that may be!!

Thanks for reading!

Maggi

I am not sure how old your DD's are but my girl is 6 almost 7 and she doesn't like the ruffly skirts either. She will wear Apron tops and they are relatively easy. They look cute with capris or shorts and you can add ruffles to t he top or just use the bias tape.
The Apron top is Butterick 5019
IMG_4871.jpg

McCall's 5034 is for a Tunic style top. They are very plain and my DD ended up wearing them as pajama tops.
IMG_4390.jpg

Simplicity 4208 is a that's so raven pattern. Someone on the thread created an adorable Minnie top using this pattern so I had to buy it! Unfortunately, DD wears a size 6 and it starts at size 8. So I am saving it.
I think the tink fabric in your stash would be cute as an apron top. With a contrasting bias tape edge. If it is cold out on your trip you can have your DD wear a long sleeve t shirt underneath.

i am sorry that everything bad is happening i am sending  and i hope things get better for you...

Thought I would share my latest creation! I wanted something that was a winter theme - but not Christmas so she could wear this one longer. This pattern doesn't come in her size so I had to make some adjustments - but it turned out pretty cute. Thanks for looking! :)

I LOVE that! SOO cute!

Hello everyone

I hope you and your familys are all well. I have been away for a few days and haven't caught up yet. I love everything I have seen so far. Take care and have a happy and safe turkey day.

We're leaving for our trip this afternoon!!   All that work and excitement...can't wait until the 2:30 school bell rings. My dd4 can hardly contain herself. (It's her first trip) She keeps asking if the princesses are going to be for REAL!

Okay, so could someone please pm me and clue me in as to who/what this :wizard: is that everyone keeps referring to in such a secretive sort of way :rolleyes1 I feel out of the loop, lol

Ok, I am very confused. I thought Davy Jones was a Monkee? Was he ever on the Brady bunch as a guest star? I did watch both shows on Nickelodeon as a child, btu they were a little before my time, so maybe I missed something?

Okay, I'm far behind, and I'll try hard not to hijack the thread!!

I'm so sorry to read that your dd's weren't in love with your skirts. I think they are adorable!! My DD is 8 and very much a tom boy. I have made her a couple things, but she very rarely wears dresses or skirts, especially ones with lots of ruffles. I let her look at the pictures in the DIS photobucket account and sometimes things that I see on ebay (only if I think I could make it -LOL!). She likes some of the twirl tops and really seems to like the halter style tops with the "twirls ruffles". She also like the ruffle jeans and capris and the ribbon capris.

Thanks for the ideas....I think that is exactly what I'll end up doing......isn't the new style wearing a halter top with a t-shirt underneath? Someone told me that a few weeks ago, which I thought sounded funny, but I saw a girl in her school wearing it last week. I'm not sure if I really liked it or not, but is it the new style?

((HUGS)) Maggi - your skirts look great - and I LOVE the beaded pony holder, I may have to try that! How old are your girls?

Thanks! My girls are 5 and 9. I went to a clothing store a few weeks ago and they were selling pony holders kinda like that for about 6 bucks apiece! I bought one so I could look at it while I was making one but sheesh! I think I made one for about 1 dollar!!

I always love looking at this thread! I need to get sewing again. We're still moving in so it's hard to take the time to sew (I have no real space to do it). Here's the dress I made for Ilana's first birthday thanks to the inspiration and idea from one of the mom's here. I think I did a pretty good job if I can say so myself. :lmao:

th_birthday001.jpg

th_birthday013.jpg

Cute, cute cute!!! That first year goes by so fast doesn't it?

Weloveprincesses- I'm sorry that your dd's don't like your fabulous creations. After making the KaChow! shirts for my ds's this weekend my oldest (autism) doesn't want to where it because "it's too scratchy" (he has sensory issues). That made me want to cry! Partly because I didn't think of that & partly because of the work it took to make it. Oh, I'm also askeered of the peasant tops & desperately want to make my niece one!!

Oh, I'm so sorry your son can't wear that cute shirt! What kind of stabilizer did you use? I tried two different kinds while testing out my appliqueing abilities (or lack of in my case) but honestly, the thing that worked best without the little scratchy things on the inside, was a coffee filter! Sorry I can't remember who recommended it here on the boards. Dd9 hates stuff that's scratchy and I've bonked my head against the wall many a time frustrated because she won't wear something that bothers her. The coffee filter left virtually nothing behind and tore out very easily, maybe that would work for him too? (that is if you haven't already tried it!)

Thank you for explaining the ruffler foot (I have a dd(almost 5) who is totally into ruffles and frilly clothes).

I have to say that sounds quite amazing. I remember doing gathers by hand.

Ugh. Gathers by hand. I'm so thrilled to say those days will be long gone!

Oooo, I forgot this the best! It made me remember I can't forget to make my Sydney a Chistmas bandana! Here's the one she wore last year....
XmasDogBandana.jpg

Awww!!! That's so cute!

OY, What have I done?
We went to the mall this morning to see Santa. We wandered into the Hallmark store-it SEEMED harmless enough :lmao: Next thing I know my DD has a Webkinz. Someone one PLEASE tell me this is not going to be that bad. (I still have Beanie Baby nightmares)

Ah yes, I remember Beanie Babies quite fondly...and the search for the ever elusive Princess Di BB. Dsd17 was quite into those. Now dd's are indeed into the Webkinz. We like them...I do what Castle does and log on after bedtime and rack up some money for them. Don't forget to check out the section on the Newzpaper page called "Kinzcash Tips". They give a couple of extra ideas for making money. Dd5 hoards her cash, dd9 spends hers the minute she gets it. They love making up the rooms the best I think.

Too...funny...I will have to place you under arrest for a serious violation of CASEing....:rotfl: I'm so pleased that it gave you inspiration to do one for your daughter. I really wished that I could have used the Mickey fabric, but I just didn't know what to do with it, and believe me...you don't want to see what I TRIED to do...:rotfl:

I have a feeling anything you tried to do would come out fabulous!

wow what cute outfits , and love the doggie bandanna , the socks and hair holder too cute.:thumbsup2

love the skirts and the colors!
Thanks guys! I was just happy I had something finally to show ya'll!!

They are a bit different. The bag was round and the back side was two regular cotton prints, sewn back to back, then the entire front/top of the bag was the clear vinyl, then it was zig-zagged or serged around the entire outside of the circle. You could see the print of the fabric showing through the window when you slid stuff around in there. It was cute, but of course now I can't find the pattern :scared1: But I think I like the one in the photo on your links, mainly because it has a handle. That would come in handy. I'm now officially collecting spyable items.

I love what you've made so far! And I am now feeling very lucky, because my DD10 still likes the skirts I make her! I do make them less full than her 2-year-old sister's though.

I made DD10 a peasant top out of scrap fabric because I was trying to make sure it fit right. She wore it to school the next day (plain pink sleeves, plain ivory bodice) and said she has never received so many compliments in her life from all the other little 10 year old girls. I made long sleeves and shirred near the top and hemmed the cuff. It was so easy.

Yes, I think a peasant top is now on the horizon for me. I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or a bad thing!! And if the other 10yo girls liked yours, then that's good enough for me...girls that age can be ruthless! I also think I'm going to try to adjust the skirts a bit to make them a little less frilly. Not sure when that's going to happen, but it's in my brain!

And would you people STOP WITH THE I SPY BAGS!! I have enough to do already!! I say enough to do! And now I feel COMPELLED to make these darn bags for my girls! I'm dreaming of what would fit in them! Everything I LOOK AT I'm wondering if it would look good in the I SPY BAGS!! Barbie ballet shoes, Barbie food, shaped beads, I'm searching the play room for things to fit in a bag! You people are addicting!!! Tom was right! You're all enablers!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

(although, I love the thought of shrinky dinks in them...I'm off to Michaels to find some today)

Maggi

I'm trying to make a stripwork jumper and know lots of you wonderful ladies changed the straps. Instead of buttoning, you made them with elastic. That's what I'd like to do. When I measured the elastic, it's quite small, going from the top of the front bib to the top of the back bib. Did you have a back? Meaning, did the elastic go from the bib on the front to the back of the skirt? Or to the bib on the back? Am I making sense? Is this a dumb question? (I think I ask that a lot.)

Edited to add: I'm worried that attaching the elastic to the bibs (front and back) would make it ride up under the arms.

Ok, I am very confused. I thought Davy Jones was a Monkee? Was he ever on the Brady bunch as a guest star? I did watch both shows on Nickelodeon as a child, btu they were a little before my time, so maybe I missed something?
Yes, he was on the Brady Bunch! He played at Marsha's prom & made all the teacher's swoon! Then he kissed Marsha & she said she'd never wash her face again. :cloud9: It was cute!

I watched the Monkees as reruns in the 70s as a girl.:hippie: Davy Jones seemed cute at the time because he was boyish in a manly/sexy way!:cloud9: Now as a mature woman, I sooo don't get it:confused3 ....until I found this, it brought back that girly butterfly in the tummy feeling!:hippie::rotfl: Beware all you Monkee swooners......

Those 10 year old girls are SO ruthless! DD was excited that even her former best friend who now "hates" her told her her shirt was cute. I think that made her day. Those girls are pretty mean to her. She has a new friend this year though, so that definitely helps!

From the front bib to the back bib. On my first stripwork jumper I just tacked the straps down and did "for show" buttons. My DD was able to get in on over her head with no problem. On the second one, I wanted a little stretch in the straps so it would be even easier to pull on. I just measured the length of the strap on her other one from bib to bib and cut my elastic that long. I didn't cut the strap fabric any longer because it was already a bit long and I didn't want the total scrunchy look, just a bit of stretch. So the elastic is as long as you would want a fabric strap alone to be so when it just hangs, it doesn't ride up, but when you pull it over her head, they stretch out enough to get it on easily. Hope that helped. I've only made two.

Mine hasn't had it in a while either. I was there the other day and they just got some more in. They had alot of licensed fabric that I hadn't ever seen at that Joann's. Must be stocking up for "Black Friday." Licensed fabric is 30% off. And (some) flannel is .99. I may have to venture out to get some good deals!!
I'm hoping my Hancocks stocks the Little Einstein fabric real soon & by Black Friday!!!  I would never brave the mobs for Black Friday, but all these deals at JoAnn's & Hancocks are stirring me to motivation. Anyone know when they open?

she is very nice to help out. pm me if anyone else needs help! I cut out 6 patterns tonight and am 1/2 way done with some sewing. ahhh progress! Hope I get a lot done tuesday. I feel the rest of the weekend will be crazy!!!!!!:dance3:
WOW!!! 6 patterns? You rock! :cheer2: Jo Jo must be taking long naps lately! I have 2 cut out & laying wait until after Thanksgiving break is over. My boys are wild & I have to stash/hide my sewing when they're home:scared: . Can't tell you how many times they found a spool sitting on the machine & ran thru the room winding it all over!!:rotfl: :rotfl: Or they like to get their handy manny tools & "fix" my machine for me!!:scared1:

We got home Saturday night after our week at WDW. I can't believe that it's finally over after all that work! I went through my pics to find ones where you can see DD's outfits.
th_IMG_7711.jpg

You can't see this one too well but it's a tshirt dress with a Pooh fabric skirt. I cut out a Pooh from the fabric and ironed it on w/Wonder Under Ultra onto the top.

th_IMG_7866.jpg

This one I actually made Saturday morning before we left! It's just a simple elastic waist skirt and the tshirt had iron-ons from the Disney store. All the princesses commented on it. After lunch DD ate an ice cream bar and ruined the shirt but those iron-ons don't hold up in the wash well, anyway.

th_IMG_7973.jpg

This one was after I had had enough of doing ruffles! I used bias tape to trim the pants and top. The top is just a pillowcase dress made as a top. The kids loved the Play n Dine character meal, even though they have never seen Little Einsteins or Jojo's Circus (we don't have cable)!

th_IMG_8017.jpg

It was COLD on Friday at AK! The kids had their jackets on until right before we left so I could take a picture! I had made DD matching capris which she couldn't wear because it was too cold.

th_ChefMickeys.jpg

I posted a pic of this before we left. I never got around to putting a bow on it. There were two other girls with tshirt dresses like DD's at Chef Mickey's. DD would not cooperate for her pic with Minnie.
Aww, they look so sweet! I love all those pics!

I finally finished the jeans to go with my Fall Peasant top. What a job. The jeans took forever and broke one of the needles on my sewing maching..GRRR...They also have tons of hand stitching that took, almost forever. Sorry for the poor pictures. My camera is in a bad mood...and it keeps shutting off...
289228538.jpg

289228539.jpg

I LOVE those jeans!!! They look awesome! BOTH of my girls said they LOVED the outfit.

Okay so I'm new here and all, so all I kept thinking to myself when I read this was, man I really hope Bob's a dog :rotfl2:

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

That's right everybody, Spongie and UtahMama are coming to my house tomorrow! :snooty: (I had to bribe them with fabric).

I can't wait either! I'm so excited, on my way home from dropping Dsis and fam at the airport (THEY'RE GOING TO DISNEYWORLD!--so jealous) I had to stop off at Hancocks and I was very, very bad! So even more 6x6 blocks! BTW I saw some pink fleece there with Miss Piggies all over it and had to really restrain myself from buying some for you! Not psycho here at all :rolleyes1 Sorry it won't be too much of a treat--my 4 kids will be here to drive us crazy! Maybe I can convince the big kids to watch the littles upstairs, but you know how kids get when there is company!:jumping1:

Oh, I'm jealous. I know I hardly know any of you, but everyone sounds like so much fun. I hope you all have a great time!

THANKSGIVING PREVIEW

th_IMG_2510.jpg

BTW, this is my first fresh from the bath picture. I heard it's a requirement!!

Cute! I love that turkey!

I've been working on customs for our trip for 5 kids. 2 of them are 8 and definitely have gotten the belly in the last year. I've searched far and wide for simple patterns and ideas. PM me if you need any help/direction.

Oh, thank you for that! I will!!

You people are such bad influences! All along I've been telling myself, I will never get a ruffler foot. I wouldn't even want one. No way could I ever figure it out. My method works just fine. So, what did I do today while I was at Hancocks? I told myself, well, this is the only place to get one, and there it is right in front of me, and I only drive clear out to Hancocks once every 5 or 10 years (literally) so maybe I will want it someday. SHEESH! It is mostly Heather's fault after her glowing report of her weekend with her ruffler. I know I will never be able to figure the contraption out and I will end up going back to Hancocks to return it and spend another $70 on fabric. Oh, and to the people wanting Little Einsteins fabric, I bought a tiny bit today for some quilt squares and the lady told me it was brand new, she literally put in on the shelf a couple of hours before I got there, so it looks like it is still coming in to the stores. Also I found the cutest Mickey/Minne fabric. I will have to post a photo. It is perfect for DD10!
After you get the darn contraption figured out, you really will like it. I'm not a very good sewer and it really helps me out alot.

Here is something I made this week. I think I love this fabric so much I might try a corset for Megan with it.

th_100_1977.jpg

That's really cute....I love the way those corsets look, but they look hard to make!!! I hope you show yours if you make one!

So sorry to hear about things.... We have had troubles with out freezer too, about once a year every July.....weird how it's almost like clockwork!

If it makes you feel any better...dd9 clogged up the potty this morning. It overflowed and everything while she was trying to "fix" it herself. After she realized it was overflowing she tried to wipe it up with tp. Then she moved on to bath towels. By the time she called me, there was potty water EVERYWHERE.

Okay, so it probably doesn't make you feel any better, but hopefully it'll make you laugh.:)

Does the back tie or is it solid? She might like this with some bias tape....the tink fabric is actually for her! You have a good eye! Thanks for the ideas! Oh darn, now I have to go to JoAnnes....whatever shall I do....???

We're leaving for our trip this afternoon!!   All that work and excitement...can't wait until the 2:30 school bell rings. My dd4 can hardly contain herself. (It's her first trip) She keeps asking if the princesses are going to be for REAL!

I love Ft. Wilderness!!! And of course, the Princesses!!! Have a great time!!

Okay, so could someone please pm me and clue me in as to who/what this :wizard: is that everyone keeps referring to in such a secretive sort of way :rolleyes1 I feel out of the loop, lol

Ah hah!!!! I knew there was something about you I really liked!

Barry Manilow is wonderful- and his shows are great! You will have a spectacular time when you see him in February. Walk in with your head held high girl! You will NOT be alone at that show!! ;)

I cannot wait! I'll hold my head up high, I'll just have to drag my husband!
He might be hiding!

Yep, that does it for me big time!

For those of you who were wondering, Davy Jones (from the Monkees, not POTC) had a guest star role on the Brady Bunch. Marsha, Marsha, Marsha got him to come and sing at her school for Prom, I think? He was at the Brady house too. Lucky Marsha! She got all of the guys!

Now even though I love Davy and Barry, only Barry makes it on my top five list (even though my husband insists that he is not the least bit interested in anything I have to offer). My freebies are:

Bono (from U2)
Sting
Barry Manilow
Richard Gere
George Clooney

Richard and George are periodically taken off and someone else put on, but normally this is my list. Bono is definitely my #1 with Sting a close second.

Who does everyone else have? I know, way way way off topic!
