I HATE hemming circles, but I'll tell you what I do. Usually, I iron in the hem & turn it under & iron again before I start to sew it, but on a circle I can't seem to make that work. It just makes a mess for me. So instead, I iron in the regular hem & then as I sew I turn it under. It's still never completely smooth, but I think that's because I'm just not patient enough to go that slow.
Another option is to use bias tape. You fold out one edge of the bias tape * sew it to the RIGHT side of the skirt in the crease from the fold. Then you turn the bias tape to the wrong side & sew it down.

I have been hemming my circle skirts with the hemming foot that I picked up. That thing is SLICK! Once you get the hang of it and it only took me 1 or 2 trys to get it. It just zips along and folds and rolls the hem for you.

Oh I picked mine up at Hancocks

For your viewing pleasure, a picture of our Florida family trip circa December 1983ish:

I am sure my lovely blue overall ensemble will inspire someone! Good thing Heather didn't look directly at the camera, because the glare from those ginormous glasses would have melted the camera!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Oh my, I think I had a red and white striped jumper just like that! :)

i may have to grab me one of those.....

I am a DL girl :) I have been to DW only once and want to go back but we live in Washington and DL is so much closer. We are headed there in a week and I have my customs almost done (pics to be posted soon) I made two circle "boo" skirts and I am finishing up the pirate princess skirts with the corset and shirts. I have them almost done just need to finish one corset and the bling on the shirts.

Oh and crazy me, I am teaching myself to crochet with what? A prirate hat!!!!!! I will post a pic if I can get it done on time. It actually is looking like a hat so that is a good start!

And my 5yr DD tried on the corset and skirt tonight and danced around, I love it mommy I love you - so much better than the attitude she had this afternoon :scared1:
are you doing the mickey's halloween party?

are you doing the mickey's halloween party?

I don't think it is going when we are there. We leave 9-27 and back 9-30 really fast trip for us

I have little halloween circle skirts for them and one of the girls has a short sleeved halloween shirt, do you know where there are short sleeved halloween shirts in 24M or 2T?

i saw a couple on old navy and you might want to try gymboree or the children's place.

The rest of the family has already decided on a costume for halloween & MNSSHP, except me!! I am thinking that I want to be Belle with the blue dress but I have looked around for the costume or a pattern and have not found much. There was a suggestion on an old thread about making a cape- but what to wear under it?? We are going to the last MNSSHP on Nov. 2 so I have some time but not alot. I was thinking of Alice at least she seems to be popular with patterns, But I am brunett and do not want to wear a wig- besides it being hot and itchy, it might freak out my 14 mo. DD!!! DD is going as tink, DH captin Jack, DS Buzzlightyear. I also thought of being a pirate too, but I really want to be a princess!! And also DS would kind of be "one of these things is not like the others" if the rest of us were peter pan/ piratey and he was Buzz. I don't know!! Help Please!!!!!!

Sorry Mama!! I think I hold the dubious honr of being the ancient of the ancient on this thread! I graduated in 1976! Shoulda been '77, but I was too smart for my britches (YES!!! I said BRITCHES!) and graduated a year before I was supposed to! Of course, I NEVER thought that when I got old, it would make me sound older then I REALLY was !! :rotfl:

Hey, y'all are still Spring Chickens with down still behind your ears compared to me a REALLY Old Bird!!! :lmao: My HS graduation year was 1969...and Yes we had a lot of rather (for lack of a better word) FUN with that...:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: The faculty were not amused AT ALL with some of the things we came up with.... :confused3 Now, it took me until 1991 to graduate with my BA...Me and AliKat99 graduated 10 days away from each other! Nana

Oh, no, Nana. I got you beat...I graduated in 1968!!!! It was a great year!!!

This young women on this board are my daughter's age. One graduated in 1988, one in 1996, one in 2002. I am a real oldie moldie!

Oh my, I think I had a red and white striped jumper just like that! :)

OMG!!! Now that you say red and white stripe.... it brings to memory the picture of the one piece gym suits we use to have to wear in gym in Middle school. You know the ones.... they zipped up the front and were ever so fashionable??? :rotfl2: Ya know.... I truely believe if they made kids wear those things nowaday, we'd have a major riot on our hands!

Nah, that's just our older brother, the one we don't really talk about! That's not his style of redneck. He is a computer geek, but without the computer skills. He did use to have numchucks though. :lmao:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: You knew I'd get that one, huh?!

My Mom has told us horror stories about those! I believe she said they were made of terricloth. She hated them!

When I was in middle school they must have recently changed over to the new black polyester shorts (eeeew) and gray Tshirt (meh). If you forgot your gym clothes though you had to wear one of the old stripey jumpers! LOL I only had to do that ONE time. :rotfl2:

Looks fabulous Wendy! I HAND HEMMED Audrey's dress. It only took forever plus two years.

Thanks for posting this. I was in hancocoks today and the Minnie dot fabric was $3.47/yd!! That's a good price. Of course, I have about 30 yds but I just may have to breakdown and buy another bolt.

I saw that. My Hancock's is OUT of Minnie dot. I was going to buy a bunch. I'll have to call the Hancock's in a neighboring town and see if THEY have it. I need some. Plus. I told the mother of one of my daughter's friends last night that I wanted to make her girl a custom (they are probably cruising in February.) Spreading the Love!!!

Okay, TeresaJoy, just for you... here is my prom dress. This picture is from my DH Ring dance at the USAFA, but it is the same dress that I wore to my HS prom and I look pretty much the same. It was the sequin era. I had 3 different sequin formal dresses, blue, fushia and green. Look quick because I will probably be deleting it soon. Sorry it's so fuzzy, but it's a picture of a pic but I hate when someone has to resort to begging. :)

That is great!!! Thanks for sharing!!! What year was this? Might I add that you are really cute!

th_IMG_0478.jpg

each peice cut out and then HAND STITCHED down....no fancy machines here...would if I could, but my machine doesn't do that....
WOW!! You definitely earned your applique badge (and twirl skirt badge, of course)! Does your machine zig-zag? I don't have a fancy schmancy machine, either. But, it does zig-zag, so I use that for applique.

Very cute! The fabric paint looks great for the face.

I'll have to dig up a picture. At least I didn't have braces, but I did have to wear a terrible contraption called a frankle all through middle school, which stunted me socially. I could hardly talk, besides looking like a freak. Good times!
Ok, now I have to remember HeatherSue and TeresaJoyCE! Can I still say HKite and TeresaJoy in my head?
Oh, you poor thing! Is the frankle one of those things like the poor girl (I believe it was Joan Cusack) on Sixteen Candles had to wear?

No, you may not think of me as "huh-kite" in your head! :snooty:

Utah Momma your picture is funny too! And I am not really sure why you were wearing an angora sweater with satin shorts? We always wore our angora sweaters with our MC Hammer pants. Or with jeans with the ankles tucked into our socks! But that was in Illinois.
I believe this photo was pre-Hammer pants and tight rolling. At least in Michigan we didn't do that until the late 80's and early 90's. :upsidedow

oh my I accidently clicked on "any single disney men out there" (I thought I was coming to this thread) and thought whoa I missed a lot the last few minutes!
:lmao: :rotfl2:I briefly considered checking out that board when my husband refused to take a whirlwind trip to Disney a few weeks ago. :rotfl2:

Ok were are the prom pictures?
I could be REALLY rotten and post a family members first and "only" sewing attempt. But since I was the one forced to wear it I don't think I will
You MUST post the picture! I already posted my prom pictures a few 100 pages ago, since my sister made my dresses. But, I could repost them if you'd like. ;)

And Heather - I bought the appliqués off voldemort. I got a bunch of them and just tacking them on. It's the cheaters way for those who don't dare try to do that stuff on their own!!!!!!!!
I love your newest creation!! DD is gorgeous!! How old is your little cutie in the background? My DS turned 1 on June 13. Hey, if they had the appliques I was looking for on ebay, I sure wouldn't go through the hassle of making them myself!!

Megan's room is blue. She has a yellow and blue comforter set on her daybed so we painted the room blue to match. DH has hated it from the start and has wanted it pink. I said let's wait and see what kind of girl she is, she might not like pink (I hated pink when I was a kid and my bedroom was awful pale pink and I despised it). Of course she is a princess-pink kind of girl. When she saw your pictures she said, I want that outfit and I want a pink room like Hannah-banana. She is such a weirdo, I don't know where she gets it from. :rolleyes1
I also hated pink. Unfortunately, before my sister got married and moved out, she decorated our bedroom in pink and blue. I got to live with that through my teenage years. I liked black... Although, my favorite colors are pink and purple now. Tessa's room is "bibbidi bobbidi blue" and "wave of the wand". She also has the coolest light fixture- ever! I'll post pictures if you'd like!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: I'd also like to know if this is "duck-tape" camper guy!!
Making a "Duck" tape camper would be way too much effort for my brother.

Nah, that's just our older brother, the one we don't really talk about! That's not his style of redneck. He is a computer geek, but without the computer skills. He did use to have numchucks though. :lmao: I thought that look Heather was giving me was awfully cute. She use to think I was very cool! :lmao: Hey, the Joyce is after my mother. She is a twin. Barbara Joyce and Bernard Royce. :lmao: Oh, yah know, you REALLY REALLY DO NOT have to find that picture!
And, I am cracking up laughing reading your post!!! I mean, we MUST be hilarious if we BOTH think we are, right???Yeah, that huhkite, she was kind of annoying. You can call me Teresajoy, because that is what I am, Teresa joy, it's more of a description really than a name. (STOP LAUGHING HEATHER!!!!) But, unless you have the flu, I don't know if you should strain yourself with the huhkite. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I've always wondered what that thread was about, but I have never "accidentally" clicked on it before!! :rotfl2Sometimes I say things to make Heathersue laugh, sometimes I say things to make you laugh! :thumbsup2 And, sometimes you can both laugh! :rotfl:
I was going to comment on each thing individually, but I'll just do this: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

I've gotta say- not nearly enough sparkle and those sleeves could be a little poofier! :rotfl:
