You all are a bunch of babies!:goodvibes

Class of 1983 here!:thumbsup2

I know all about "old eyes" UMama!

So glad I have bifocals now, before then, I would have to have DD help with threading the sewing machine! Not an easy task for a four year old! But I figure I might as well get as much child labor out of her as I can! :rotfl:

Off to finish my next project!

Wait, I think I'm pretty much the oldest having graduated in '85. I'm at least in the top 10 % of elderly subscribers.

Now, to also keep the thread on topic, I took some beautiful Sleeping Beauty pictures yesterday complete with Aurora-hair and lip gloss and her holding a rose...only to discover the card was out of the camera!!! Don't ask ME how I missed the little-card-with-a-slash-through-it icon blinking as I posed my dd3 in a multitude of Aurora-ish poses:confused3 Must be my old eyes again :rolleyes1

Two days. I leave in 2 days! :cool1: Saturday morning we will have our junk food drive-through breakfast as we head out to SLC Airport and get on a Southwest cattle car...first class ;)

Before then I 'll need to install a 22" black zipper in my Hocus Pocus type witch costume...find some Kickin' Black boots to go with it and finish packing.

Sorry Mama!! I think I hold the dubious honr of being the ancient of the ancient on this thread! I graduated in 1976! Shoulda been '77, but I was too smart for my britches (YES!!! I said BRITCHES!) and graduated a year before I was supposed to! Of course, I NEVER thought that when I got old, it would make me sound older then I REALLY was !! :rotfl:

Don't forget to look for my daughter at the airport. Her flight leaves at 7:25am on Saturday. That would be so cool if you met each other! Oh my heck! It just dawned on me that if you are on the same flight- that I could meet you as well!! My flight arrives 15 minuites before Alissa's does in Orlando and I was gonna wait at her gate for her to come off the plane! If you are on the same flight, I'll be sure to introduce myself to ya! That would be so fun!!!

OHHH NOOO!!!!! Are you sure that your camera doesn't have some internal memory where those pictures might be stored??? I really want to see that dress!

LOL - thanks a bunch. When we booked our trip it was 145 days out - really, it went pretty fast. I hope it does for you as well. :)

I hope it does too!

Class of '91!! Missed my 10 year too. I was on my honeymoon in Aruba! I don't remember what our class song was, but our colors were Irridesant (SP?) white and Irridesant clear!! :confused3 Not sure who (or why they) picked those "colors"!

Hmm, irridescent. Hey Heather, do you think they changed colors too???:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

whoo hoo thanks so much for the kiddos haircuts. and dh too.... i will bring you a diet Wild cherry puppy in a lil bit to help with your stress..

And, while you are there help her get some pictures of that dress!

On my last eye exam, the eye doctor nonchalantly said, "You will probably need bifocals by the time you are 40." I almost smacked her!

Hello you many talented ladies!!!
I have been a lurker for a while, and I am stunned with all of you. I am dying to make some outfits for my 2 yr old DD and my 4 yr old DS. I have the great disney sewing and embroidery machine, but no clue how to sew!!! I really want to learn to applique, would someone be willing to write out very very very simple instructions for me?? Also, I love the ruffles on the jeans/pants would it be better for me to buy a ruffler?? I am open for a lot of advice! We are all heading to DW Dec 15-22 and I really would like for them to have outfits. Thank you all!

Chantel

Dear Mommyto2mousers,

I would recommend that you go to YouCanMakeThis.com

You can order very simple instructions for making things without having to read and follow a pattern. You puchase on line and the instructions are printed out from your computer. I have been sewing since I was 15 and I am not 57, and I think these step by step instructions would be really good for someone who doesn't know how to sew. There are also instructions available for appliques. They are very simplified with pictures to show you every step of the way.

I had a Simplicity how to sew book. I can't remember what the name is now, but I googled it for someone and found the title. It is available on Amazon.com. It is invaluable for a beginner also.

I am sure that these ladies will help you out. On the very first page of this thread there is a link to Theresajoy's bookmarks and there are lots of instructions and tips there also.

Have fun and don't get discouraged. Sewing is really a wonderful hobby and with little ones you can't go wrong.

Blessings,
Susan

Sorry, I meant to say I AM 57, not I'm not....I guess my brain is in override...leaving for WDW today...and I was up all night finishing up Makayla's outfits. I tried 3 times to put an invisible zipper in her gold lame Belle gown, and it just wouldn't go up....I gave up and won't finish it until I get home...and then I will tear into my new DIsney machine to embroider. I haven't sewn on it yet and I can't wait!

WOO HOO off to Disney with my precious little Makayla!

I would love to see the VERY detailed instructions on applique also. I have been putting it off...as for the ruffles, I LOVE THE RUFFLER!!! Worth every penny, I don't think I would do ruffles or twirl skirts without!:thumbsup2

Well I finally am positing. :cool1:

I am still going thru this thread page by page (I am on 382) and reading thru everything. I went and bought some stuff yesterday to work on a few things for my daughter who is 8. I picked up red and white tshirt from Target. On the white one I am sewing the cute little different colored Mickey head buttons from the scrapbooking section around her neckline. She loved it when I showed it to her and the sticky backs helped keep them in order till she decided how she wanted it. :lmao: :lmao:

Now on the red one I bought some ribbon and a cute little Minnie patch that I just want to either glue on or iron on?? Does anyone have a suggestion on that?? I bought the Aileen's OK, but I thought maybe using some sort of iron on material would be less messy??? I picked up a really cute pair of black gouchos (sp?) that have the word cutie and a heart in white on them in the upper right leg area. I love them!!

I also picked up some red Minnie dot fabric and would like to make a simple twirl skirt with like three layers?? I have tried to go back and find the instructions I have seen posted, but could not?? Can someone point me in the right direction??

I just love looking at all the creative things on this thread and am going to catch up someday. We are all getting so excited to go, it is getting so close. I cannot wait!

Thanks in advance for all and any help!
Michele:goodvibes

Oh ya???? Well was YOUR hair ever this cool? I am wearing an angora sweater and jogging shorts with pearls. And about a full can of Aqua Net for my Miss America hair. Look at my braces....and my youthful non-wrinkled skin!

*sigh*

Misty's gonna take a pic of the Aurora dress I just "whipped up" :sad2:

I found a white eyelet peasant top for Norah at a thrift store last night for $1.00. It had a yucky worn out ribbon around it and I just removed the old ribbon and am replacing it with a pretty pink ribbon. OMGosh! For a buck, I just completed a cute little "extra" outfit (we need extra outfits, right preschooler mamas?)

I also found a cute little hawaiin print dress that is too big, but I can take it in for her to wear to Ohana :cutie: That should keep me pretty busy when I should be packing!

I love thrift store bargains!!!!!!

In the very first post there is a link to a bookmark page that has loads of instructions - I think there is one on applique! If you are just adding a ruffle to the bottom of jeans, I'd say skip the ruffle foot and gather by hand. If you are doing a ruffle for a dress or skirt I'd DEFINATELY buy the ruffler!

I have the how to applique instructions from ycmt and I didn't learn anything that I hadn't already learned form the helpful ladies on this thread!

A quick tutorial:

Get you patterns by searching coloring pages. Really good site for Princesses/D!sney is Thedollpalace here's a link:

http://www.thedollpalace.com/coloring-pages/sec30-Disney.html#secLink

Trace EACH of the pattern pieces onto fusible web - I hold the patter and fusible web up to a window and trace it there. For Cinderell you would trace her hair, headband, face shape, eyes, etc. Cut them slightly bigger so when you piece them together they overlap.

Cut out your fusible web pattern pieces. Iron the web to the BACK side of the fabrics you are using. Cut the now fused pattern pieces out of the fabric. Peel of the paper backing.

Layer your fabric pieces onto your base fabric, (the shirt or whatever the applique will go on.) ironing (attaching) each layer as you go. For Cinderella start with the face shape, then her hair, headband, etc.

For the actual stitching use a zig-zag stitch (I guess it is also called a satin stitch :confused3 ) set at the lowest setting (on my machine it is set a 0). Go slow and take your time, making sure you stitch over all of the edges of all of the pieces! A good first applique to attempt is the mickey head - no pieces to layer!! (also in the boomark pages.)

I hope this helps - I am in no way as good as some of these ladies, I've only done a few appliques so far. But when I did my first one I wished there were some detailed insructions too! Hope this helps. If I missed something, or am wrong on anything, I'm sure someone will be along to correct me and help you!

Ok I am 97 I was feeling left out and had to post. And boy do I feel old.

You are not left out. I am also a '97 grad. So is DH, we are another set of high school sweet hearts.... Well does it still count as high school sweet hearts if he dumps you before college and come groveling back when he realizes he let the best thing he ever had go??? :lmao:

Okay, thanks for the help teresajoy, I will now attempt to post my first photo (of DD10 in her Pooh jammies)
