I thought I would show a few of the things I have been working on.

This is my first tee shirt dress. I added the sash since I didn't have a presser foot and the tee-shirt pulled a little. I like the way it looks with the sash, so I have added it to all of the tee-shirt dresses I have made.... sounds like I have been pumping them out, it has only been 2  This is from July 4th sorry it is so old.

This is an outfit I made for someone who saw Katie at the Wiggles concert. I did not charge her much. She bought all of the stuff and I just added the ruffles. I did not applique around the patches since I am not good at it. I did patchwork the ruffles and used a serger to do a rolled hem.

I also wanted to add a picture of my little princess Katie. She has a toddler fracture in her leg and just looks pathetic :guilty: She jumped off a chair in the living room trying to a cheerleader like her big sister. She picked the purple cast to match her cheer uniform :) We have 3 weeks left in the cast. Does anyone want to borrow her for the 3 weeks :rotfl: She is not doing well with it. I also think she will never want to walk again. She really seems to like being carried everywhere.

Don't fall for the face :) That is her please feel bad for me my leg hurts face! We fall for every time :rotfl2:

Everything you have been working on is great. I am so impressed with all of the talent.

I LOVE the the Monsters Inc. outfit.

Hi

I love the finished Wiggles outfit it looks great. The other stuff is also very good. Well done. I am sorry to hearabout your little one. That must be so hard. My DD when she was three broke her collar bone that was bad enough but a leg that it tough.

Take care

I've got a couple of tees I made for adults. The first I made out of rhinestones. I glued them on using gem-tac. It was super easy. I printed the word onto sticker paper, then cut it out. I stuck the negative space down and used a chalk bag to fill in the word, then pulled off the sticker. The chalk provided a perfect guide for the rhinestones.

I also reconstructed some tees for myself and my girls.

I love the green tops they are really great did you make them?

Well done

ok, I finally finished the 2 piece outfit! It has a polka dot mickey on the pants! And a little mickey on the twirl top bottom in the middle!
I think this one came out super cute! Josephine loves it!

I have seen a few posts about a really good book for sewing. Does anyone recall the name of it? I want to try and find a copy, especially for those midnight to 2 AM sewing sessions when my mind goes to jelly

Hmm, was it a Simplicity book? I know Aimeeg really liked it. I'm suprised she isn't up, to answer you she doesn't sleep, yah know! :lmao: :drinking1

ETA: I did a Google search for the disboards, and the one that AimeeG and bsusanmb , suggested was Simplicity's Simply The Best Sewing Book

OMG, that face! I would give her anything she wanted if she gave me that look. Poor baby! I hope she feels better soon, and for your sake I hope she decides to walk on it soon too!! (funny how heavy they can feel when they decide they just cant walk anymore and need carried)

What do you mean by making a band for her waist? I thought I was done after tying all that tulle!:scared:[/QUOTE]

*************
The band is what you tie the tulle to! Just a strip of elastic!!! Didn't mean to cause alarm!!!:rotfl2:

My DD stopped by while I was looking and said. . "Who is That!!!" I read a little and told her that her name was Katie. Then MANY posters have quoted your pics. . DD sat there on the arm of the chair. . and said. . .There is Katie. . .There is Katie again. . .:goodvibes :rotfl:

I love the Simplicity Guide to Sewing. I will grab it in a bit and get the ISBN. Once I leave the computer DH will give me the look and I am done.

Hi -

We just lived through a toddler fracture - sliding board, foot got stuck - ouch!! but she was supposed to be casted until next wednesday, but a big chunk of the bottom came off this tuesday (after we got home from disney) so they xrayed and said she was good to go!!! too bad that didnt happen before our disney trip - time around the pool was tough!!! she was a pretty good sport though and although we didnt put her in any water, we still baggied up her leg in case she got splashed!! by the way - purple was a much better choice than pink which kind of turned gray after a week and a half - lol - is your little one walking on the cast? hannah is 14 months, and after about 2 weeks, she started walking everywhere with it on- she didnt like the cast boot though so we put a no slip sock on her foot!!

hey - does anyone know - do you need a ruffler foot to do a twirl skirt? i want to make one soooooo badly, but am terrified of it!!!!

thanks, wendy

I have a feeling that someone has already answered your question but you don't need a ruffler foot. To make a ruffle I make two basting rows of stitches (a straight stitch that you make as loose and far apart as possible) at 1/4 inch and 1/8 inch from the edge and then you pull on the thread. This cinches the fabric together and makes it ruffle. It's not as perfect or exact as a ruffler foot probably but it still looks great. Now go make that twirl skirt! You can do it! Good luck!

Thank you everyone for the great comments.
curtisrs - I actually did not make the bows. I don't think I am very good at that at all! it is not my thing. Where in down under do you live again?

hkite - And josephine is a great name! Everyone always says it is old fashion but we love it!

With Lydia, it's "There's Megan, there's Megan again, is Megan my friend?"

I love the old fashioned names, especially the ones you don't hear as often. Josephine is such a pretty name. Arminda is an old name too, although many people think we made it up. She's named for her great-great grandmother.

I love this!!!

Please tell how you made that top a tank/halter for yourself. Love it!

I feel your pain... I'm sewing for five also, well actually 4.5 since dd16 says she won't let me make her anything BUT I am making shirts for me.

I didn't count the 3 adult women too that want to match the kids. The guys won't wear anything matching, guess I'm off the hook there.

I happen to have a similar tank and used it as a "pattern". Just to caution, this cuts about 4 inches from the width of your t-shirt so make sure it is good and baggy.

Basically, I cut the sides off an inch or so so that the sleeves were totally off. Then I cut a straight line just under the neckline. So you have a big rectangle now. Stitch the side seems.

It was super long so I cut about 4 inches off the bottom. You are going to make a casing for elastic top using what you just cut. Fold it in half lenthwise, wrong sides together. Sew it on the top but leave enough room to add elastic.

Finally, make straps from your sleeves. I think I cut it about 5" by as much length as I could get. Cut it to fit your measurements. You should have two straps. Fold them in half lengthwise, wrong sides together, stitch. Turn them right side out and press. Add them to your shirt. I tried it on with my bra and just follow the bra strap to get the correct placement.

The shirt was still long, so I cut a lenth of narrow elastic from my underarm to where I wanted the shirt to end. Then I cut another length. I sewed the elastic on the inside along the side seam, stretch as I went. This created the "ruching" effect.

There are some great books out about t-shirt reconstruction or t-shirt surgery. I've got a few from my library: Rip it!, Tease, Generation T, and one by Faith Blakeney which has a really long title. Also, I found one website which has some free patterns. http://ohmystars.net/craft/index.htm Click on the T-shirt surgery and look to the left for the tutorials. Most of the tees are good for teenage girls, but there are a couple that are more modest.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the instructions (I added them to the bookmarks) and telling us about the book! I am going to see if I can find it at our library. I have the links to the different t-shirt reconstructions from ohmystars in the bookmarks too.

No problem! I don't always have time to read this thread but I just love it:love: and I'm happy to contribute the little that I can. I've gotten such great ideas and tips, everyone is so talented. Yeah for the sewers:banana:

Hey guys - somewhere in the almost a thousand pages is a link to a website to print pages for autograph books. Does anyone have that link handy that they can pm me with it??? We are headed down 3 weeks from TODAY!!!
I have got to get busy - the clothes are almost all taken care of (thanks to all the people that helped me locate material that I was hunting) but I haven't gotten started at all on the autograph books. - Please please someone help me out - trip is a complete suprise for all the kids, all the clothes are a suprise and the autograph books would just make me Super Mom!!
Off to sew zebra ribbon and applique shirts for Animal Kingdom then hopefully print pages for autograph books -

I am currently making this jumper from YCMT and I was wondering what settings do I need to use on my ruffler foot to gather the strips with the bodice? I have been playing with the settings and I can't seem to get it right! Please help. TIA

I haven't posted here for awhile but I read the thread constantly and enjoy seeing all the beautiful outfits that are made on here.

My daughter told me she wanted to be a pirate for Halloween but wanted it to be pink & black. This is the fabric she picked out and what we've come up with. She loves it but I don't think it looks very piratey (if that's a word but I know how you all love to make up words on here! :lmao: ). More like a pirate wench maybe but that sounds bad for a 10 yo.

She has black boots she going to be wearing with it along with the big hoop pirate earrings. Any ideas to make it look more piratey? I told her you guys would be the ones to ask!
