I know that LisaZoe posted this awhile ago, but when doing a stripwork skirt where you make the pieces shaped like a triangle what is the correct proportion? How big at the top and how wide at the bottom? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I personally make the bottom twice as wide as the top. The actual measurements vary depending on how many strips I want. I would take the waist measurent you want to use (whether actual waist, 1.5 times actual waist, or 2 times actual waist) and then divide by how many strips you want to use, this will tell you how wide to do the top of each strip. So if you have 3 fabrics and want to use them each 4 times you would divide the waist measurement that you plan to use by 12 to get the width of the top of each strip.

It was VERY easy to make - took about 2 hours, but could be done quicker if I hadn't been trying to keep up with this thread while tying! I bought a 300ft x 6 inch wide spool of tulle (like you would order to make wedding bows or something) - it was about $13 online. Once you make an elastic loop start tying! My strips were just shy of a yard but I have a tall 4yo. I love how full it turned out - at first I was scared of the 100 yds but I love it now! Just have to do the band that goes around her waist and she'll be a fluffy pirate!

I thought I would show a few of the things I have been working on.

This is my first tee shirt dress. I added the sash since I didn't have a presser foot and the tee-shirt pulled a little. I like the way it looks with the sash, so I have added it to all of the tee-shirt dresses I have made.... sounds like I have been pumping them out, it has only been 2  This is from July 4th sorry it is so old.

This is an outfit I made for someone who saw Katie at the Wiggles concert. I did not charge her much. She bought all of the stuff and I just added the ruffles. I did not applique around the patches since I am not good at it. I did patchwork the ruffles and used a serger to do a rolled hem.

DSC00922.jpg

I also wanted to add a picture of my little princess Katie. She has a toddler fracture in her leg and just looks pathetic :guilty: She jumped off a chair in the living room trying to a cheerleader like her big sister. She picked the purple cast to match her cheer uniform :) We have 3 weeks left in the cast. Does anyone want to borrow her for the 3 weeks :rotfl: She is not doing well with it. I also think she will never want to walk again. She really seems to like being carried everywhere.

Don't fall for the face :) That is her please feel bad for me my leg hurts face! We fall for every time :rotfl2:

Everything you have been working on is great. I am so impressed with all of the talent.

I LOVE the the Monsters Inc. outfit.

Hi -

We just lived through a toddler fracture - sliding board, foot got stuck - ouch!! but she was supposed to be casted until next wednesday, but a big chunk of the bottom came off this tuesday (after we got home from disney) so they xrayed and said she was good to go!!! too bad that didnt happen before our disney trip - time around the pool was tough!!! she was a pretty good sport though and although we didnt put her in any water, we still baggied up her leg in case she got splashed!! by the way - purple was a much better choice than pink which kind of turned gray after a week and a half - lol - is your little one walking on the cast? hannah is 14 months, and after about 2 weeks, she started walking everywhere with it on- she didnt like the cast boot though so we put a no slip sock on her foot!!

hey - does anyone know - do you need a ruffler foot to do a twirl skirt? i want to make one soooooo badly, but am terrified of it!!!!

thanks, wendy

My daughter just got her cast off her arm a couple weeks ago.She had a wrist buckle fracture, She had a pink cast. Before her broken bone I had never seen any little ones with casts now I've heard so many stories and seen lots of little casts. Are you guys going to keep the cast? I have hers, I think we will keep it just to remember how little she was

Anyway you guys are all so talented- all the projects are SO CUTE!!
Makes me want to break out the sewing machine!! I'm more of a photographer-Although I am making a tinkerbell halloween costume for DD this year- with my grandmas help. She is a great seamstress!!! She is almost 89 and still works for a costume company, as well as making gifts for all the grandkids and great grandkids!!!! :cutie:

I like the sash on your tshirt dress too! Your patchwork ruffles look great! I love the whole Wiggles outfit!
:grouphug: to your dd... that face is killing me!

hey - does anyone know - do you need a ruffler foot to do a twirl skirt? i want to make one soooooo badly, but am terrified of it!!!!

Nope, I don't have one and I make skirts all the time! PM me if you need help!

Thanks that makes sense, now hopefully the kiddos will cooperate tonight!!!:rotfl2:

Secondly, I finished the Monsters outfit! Now that it's all finished, though, I wonder if it's too much white? If I should add anything?

boo3.jpg
Oh my gosh!!!!! This turned out SOOOO FANTASTICALLY WONDERFUL!!!! I don't think it's too much white. It looks great!!!!

You all know that I have no little kiddles to make WDW creations for right now (HOWEVER.... we did find out yesterday that my DD that is expecting is having a baby BOY!!! Yipppeeeee! Gotta watch oput for those boy designs now!) SO....... I decided to go "Boo-tique" on my apron designs! While it's not Disney..... it is fun!

My DD is a fllight attendant for SWA and is always in need for a non boring, non SWA apron for work. I made this Halloween Apron for her to use while she is flying.

[/IMG]

Congrats on the grandbaby!!!!!!! WooHOO!!!
We flew SWA in May, and the flight attendants were SO fantastic! So nice and helpful!

I think the Peter Pan fabric referred to may have been mine, a large print with splashes of red. I have a dress cut out but haven't sewn it yet for DD..........Hopefully can post it soon, I have so much sewing to do it isn't even funny!

I keep wondering if you have done anything with the great fabric!!! I can't wait so see it when it's done!
This is the top to DD's Minnie costume, she'll wear a white puff sleve tee under it and I'm working on a pair of white muslin bloomers that will be trimmed with the same red gingham and eyelet trim...

th_DSCF0974.jpg

Only 7 more days to go... I still have another Mickey outfit and a Nemo top to do before we leave.

I love all these dresses!!! Especially the Minnie one!
Seven days!!! WOW!

I've been trying to finish a few projects this week. Here's my DD Minnie dot outfit. The top is shirred.
th_DSC01138.jpg

These are adorable!

Ok, I need some help here ladies. We are going to MNSSHP as 1920-30's gangsters and flappers etc.. (a group of about 12 of us) DH is going to be a gangster and I thought it would be cute to make my DD(2) a spin-off costume using pinstriped fabric for a layered tulle skirt and corset (no ruffles, just bias tape around the edges) w/ a boys dress shirt and tie under the corset. I found this fedora hat at baby gap

gp500316-00viv01.jpg

That gave me the idea. However when DH saw it he also saw this drivers cap
gp500318-00viv01.jpg

and wants me to do like the drivers cap and suspenders w/ either knickers or the same layered style skirt. I know he likes this one b/c he has a drivers cap that she insists he wear EVERYWHERE. That and DS(9) REFUSES to be the newsie for us, so I think he's substituting. What do you guys think. I have an old fringed skirt that my mom made into a flapper dress when I was 9 and could cut it down for her but I just thought it would be cute to make her a girly gangster-PLUS she could wear the outfit after halloween.

I am thinking of using this pattern (the short version) for my costume w/ a cute cloche hat and some rolled stokings and mary jane heels....what d'ya think?

Gotta get workin' on the halloween stuff-or at least get "the moms" working on it.:rolleyes1

...t.

I really love the fedora idea with the tulle skirt best.

And, I had both of those hats back in the 80's!

I love the dress for you! You guys are going to look great!

Ok, so here's a pic of the tutu part of the pirate costume! I still have to make the part that ties around her waist (does that have a name?!) But wanted to show you what 100 yds looks like on a 4yo! I just had to show you guys tonight, so she's a bedtime pirate in jammies!

So cute!!!! I love it! Is it a corset that you are going to make to go with it? There are several tutorials in the bookmarks. In the costumes section.

Considering the bows are not done perfectly, just pinned on to get the general picture... or no bows

I vote no bows too. I love the skirts you made and the embellishing you did on the tops!!! They look great!

Ok, I know I commented before, but I wanted to tell you that you should be dancing around the house and showing everyone your awesome appliques. At least that's what I would do, not that I've done that before or anything, because I just thought of it. Yeah, I just thought of it right now as I'm typing!

Deann, you crack me up!

You'd think he'd know me well enough by know, that if I spend that much time on something, our great great grandkids will inherit it!

That just tickled me!

Here are a few things we are taking with us.
I posted a Mater shirt and mickey shoes earlier.
Thanks everyone for the inspiration!

The straps on the bag and band on top are black, it just looks blue in this light.

DSCN2581.jpg

Did you make the top? It is adorable! I love the picture of your daughter! Poor little Mickey!

I just wanted to share what I finished. This has been an inbetween project. I keep putting it down and coming back to it. I am working on some costumes so I need a break from the satin.

If you line up all the fabric and ric rac this would be 51 feet.

th_cindypink008.jpg

This is adorable! Nice use of ric rac!
...speaking of ITCHY TOPS...I am attempting a shirred top with cotton fabric this weekend...has anyone had their DD's complain of it being itchy or "tight feeling"...I am going to try to make it a little looser than average, but I am afraid that I will do the whole thing and it will have a bad feel on her chest - anyone have any bad experiences....

ME! Not the girls, they haven't complained, but I had a shirred top, and I couldn't stand how itchy it was! I wore it, but it drove me nuts! This was just a few years ago. Is it the type of shirt that you could put another shirt under?

No Way!!! I am caught up!
Its taken me a week, but I've done it.

I also got the new fancy-smamcy sewing machine DH owed me :cool1:
I hope to dive in this weekend.
I want to make a skirt for DD.
Any one have a easy diaper cover pattern or instructions?

You all are making some wonderful costumes.
Beautiful stuff.

There might be one in the bookmarks. There is a baby section, try there.

CUTE outfits!!! You did a great job!

And, Poor Katie! Heather (hkite) broke her leg when she was 18 months old. It didn't slow her down a bit! to you.

Heather broke her leg on a really tall slide. My dad was taking her down it, and her little foot got caught in the top part (the handle part that goes a little way down the slide). It ripped her out of his arms and, flipped her around upside down, on the outside of the slide. She was hanging above our heads screaming. Mom and I could only stand there and hold our arms up hoping to catch her if she fell. It was too tall for us to reach her. Dad ran back up the slide and unhooked her. I don't remember how they came down though. It was really awful. It seems like it took forever, but I imagine it was only seconds that she was hanging there.

Love it!

Where did you get these fun tshirts? I haven't seen them before but on this board.....

Have a great day!:goodvibes
I think this was already answered, but I got them online at Disneyshopping.com on sale

Oh my! Are all those for one girl? I like Aurora with no bows and are those shirts from the Disney Store? I bought tank tops with the gold trim, we have Cinderella & Jasmine but I don't know what to do with them.
I am actually making customs for 5 kids all together. That is why I am sewing now for an Easter trip. 2 customs for each day has kept me very busy. Each girl is getting a different princess of their choice.

I purchased about 6-8 yards on the bolt of tulle on sale for 2yards/$1. I cut them into 6 inch strips. Only took me about 2 hours to do each skirt. Seemed like I had more choices in colors using it on the bolt.

My vote is no bows. I like it without because it looks more streamlined. The Snow White tutu is great. I like how you did the ribbons in with the tulle. That had to get expensive!
I bought satin ribbon for 50 cents a spool and used just 2 spools/skirt.

No problems here.

What do you mean by making a band for her waist? I thought I was done after tying all that tulle!:scared:

I've got a couple of tees I made for adults. The first I made out of rhinestones. I glued them on using gem-tac. It was super easy. I printed the word onto sticker paper, then cut it out. I stuck the negative space down and used a chalk bag to fill in the word, then pulled off the sticker. The chalk provided a perfect guide for the rhinestones.

I also reconstructed some tees for myself and my girls.

I love the reconstructed shirts. I picked some up at the Disney Store for the whole family to match and I was going to revamp them. We were hoping to go in December, which is a no go now, so hopefully when we get to go our shirts will still fit!:confused3 Keep up the good work!

Thanks so much for posting these! I got those shirts in blue for myself and my sisters, and they are no longer coming on the trip...so now I have an idea how to re-configure one of their shirts into a dress for DD! Just what I need, more sewing for me.....only 7 days until I leave, I better get crackin! I have about 3 more projects I want to do, so this makes 4.

Alright I need to know how to get the pictures up. I opened a photobucket account, but I don't know how to get the pictures to the post. I feel like I'm going crazy, I know it probably is a simple thing to do. Can anyone help me?
