Your girls are too stinkin' cute!!!! Your skirt turned out super cool and it looks complicated.

Now, I have a question... in all of these cute pictures, you see everyone's house is clean. I must know, do you just clean in that one spot for your pics or are your homes that clean AND you have kids AND you sew? I'm just looking at her wood floor and thinking... "I remember when my floor looked like that, when it was new!"

Because I have so much fabric left over from making Halloween skirts, I was wondering, how do you do the "decoupage jeans" thing? Do you use the wonder under and applique the fabric on? I have a ton of left overs and thought that this would be a great way to use some of my scraps up. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Yep, that's it! I used Heat'n'Bond Lite, then stitched around the edges, leaving about 1/4" to fray.

Looks like i'm going a little later in December than everyone else:

When you're going: December 17th - 26th
Where you are staying: POFQ
Kids' ages: 7, 5, 18 months
MVMCP date: nope

96 days and counting

We'll be there around that time, too. Our dates are the 14th-24th at Riverside. Our girls are 12, 6, and 1 and we're going to MVMCP on the 18th. Can't wait!

Ok I must confess that I have been following this thread and I said "well I can't sew, so I'll just go (you know where) and get some cute disney customs. Well I have spent way too much and hardly gotten anything to show for it. The more I look at these pages, the more I think, maybe I should try it. Anyone want to help a newbie out? Where do I begin and is it possible with two little ones at my feet?

Well done this is great. Did you say this is for Halloween. We do not really celebrate it much in Australia. We wont actually be there for it this year but will be in US for most of October and going to a MNSSHP so am looking forward to this with the kids. Again great job I love it.

The first thing I made was a pillowcase dress, they only take about an hour or so. When I mastered that, I did twirl skirts. Both are super simple to do! Good luck!

I say go for it!!

1. If you have a sewing machine. Read the manual cover to cover. If you do not have one I suggest the Singer Esteem from Target. $129. It is great and I love it to pieces. Still read the manual.

2. The Simplicity Guide to Sewing is like the sewing Bible. I bought it and use it almost everyday.

3. Start with a really easy pattern. Each pattern company has an easy line. Read the directions before you cut the fabric. Big Helper! For your first project use inexpensive fabric. I suggest a sundress without a zipper or buttons. You could do it fall/Halloween fabric and then put a shirt underneath when it gets chilly.

4. Buy a seam ripper and name it. You will spend a lot of time together.

5. I have involved my older daughter in my projects. She is having a lof of fun helping design things. She also sits and sews with me. She is a very organized thinker so sewing is fun for her. She is also in charge of the pin cushin. Funny that was my job with my Mom when I was three.

6. Have lots of fun and if you mess up cover it with ric rac. That is why they make it!!!

One last thing . . . Ask a ton of questions here. I have learned more from this board than anywhere else!!!

Thanks! I think my girls are beauties! To make the skirt I bought a pattern off of YCMT and it was really fairly easy to make - I am just a beginner so it would have to be! It is the Bella Twirl Skirt. Cutting all of those patches took the longest!

Trust me, if you could see my floor close up you would know it's not that clean! I do have to mop at least once a week though due to owning a 230 pound inside dog named Oscar! He's the biggest mess in my house but I adore him! He is an English Mastiff and sheds like crazy and drools (although he doesn't drool as much as most EM's). If I don't vacuum every other day you could knit a sweater w/ his hair on my floor! Right now I am dreaming about a cleaning lady! Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it's happening anytime soon!

It is possible! I have a 2 and 4 yr. old and I am managing to VERY SLOWLY learn to sew. I just have to do it at night after bed! Good luck and ask lots of questions, everyone around here is so nice and helpful!

I too say go for it. 2 months ago I did not sew. Now I can make dresses and skirts for my DD that aren't too bad (don't look too closely at the seams - they aren't perfectly straight). I have also made a few tote bags and pillowcases for Christmas presents. It is lots of fun.

You can do it.!!! I sew at night when my daughter is in bed. Sometimes I can do a little when she is otherwise occupied, but she is 4 and wants to help. The helping ended the day she scared the pants off me by crawling under the table and pressing the pedal on my sewing machine while I was trying to thread the needle VERY Scary moment!


Start with a pattern marked easy. I just started sewing a few weeks ago and have since made a twirl skirt (using the tutorial in the bookmarks in the first post), customized 2 shirts, made one complete outfit (top and shorts) and 2 dreses! I found following a pattern the easier route to go because it had step by step instructions and if I dont know what they are telling me to do somebody here always does

OOOH I want to see pictures of Oscar! My "dream dog" is a Great Pyrenees Mountain dog. Sadly I live in a PUG sized house. My cousin has 2 huge great danes and another cousin has a massive Mastiff.
