Hi Everyone - happy saturday!!!

Okay, today is sewing day! DH is in charge of the kids and I am sewing! I have a lot of projects to finish! I need to topstitch my AK dress and was wondering what type of stitch to use? A straight stitch or a zigzag?:confused3 I am unsure what looks best! Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! TIA:)

Use a straight stitch to topstitch and find a point on the presser foot to use as a guide with the edge of what you are topstitching. Hope that makes sense.

I thought I'd post what I've been working on for the last 100 years. This is Tessa's Cinderella/pumpkin/Fall dress. It's just the bodice so far and I haven't attached the skirt (obviously), or put the zipper in, or pressed those sleeve seams (very important to press your seams ;)). But, I thought I'd share what I have so far so you don't think that all I do is sit around commenting on what everyone else has done and try to steer this thread as far off-topic as possible. :cutie:

That looks great! Like others, I look forward to seeing the finished (and modeled) creation.

And since it was hanging right there when I was taking photos of the bags, and since I'm getting so close to 100 posts, here is a handy dandy way to store/organize your ribbon. I got the idea from a coworker of DH's. It is a pants hanger from Target. The "arms" swivel out so it's way easy to use!

ribbonhangar.jpg

Great idea! Now I'd just need to find a place to hang it. :) I know I have a problem with sewing/craft "stuff" because I've seriously considered consigning and/or donating a lot of my clothes so I could use the closet & dresser space for fabric and other storage. :rolleyes1

Ok I am making a 5 year old's tulle dress. My elastic keeps expanding ... is that normal?

You may just need to loosen the knots a little. If they are too tight the elastic can't move so once it stretches, it stays stretched.

I know it is that 14 year old mentality. We have talks about it often, how what she sees in the magazines is not realistic etc. Joys of having a girl and living in this society.

Oh, I so understand that! I hope all our DDs see that beauty comes in all sizes, shapes and colors. I worry my DD will have a harder time seeing her own beauty as she grows older because her coloring and hair are not what she's used to seeing in the area.

Wow! Teresajoy you rock!:woohoo: I just looked at the links for the first time and you are doing a great job!!!!!!

I am going to make a tutu for dd10's costume today. I was going to actually tie knots and I looked at the directions and now I know that youdon't really tie them you just loop them through, right????? I've never made anything like that so I am hoping it works because it would be much easier than tieing a knot in each one!

I would usually go the more difficult route and do an elaborate and complicated pattern or something, but you guys have had such cute tied tutus that I'm going to give it a shot and be smart for once and not get myself into a really stressed out down to the wire sewing session!

I feel like I have been gone forever! All the new outfits are so cute! I can't believe how creative everyone is!

Well guys, sad news to report!! Nana is here, but today, while at JoAnn's at closing, we were checking out, and she fell and ended up breaking her right arm.

So, no sewing for Nana for a little bit!

She got a gash on her eyebrow from her glasses, but her shoulder took the weight of the entire fall. She ended up breaking the very, top park of her arm (near the ball). She has to wear a sling for a while, and follow up with an orthopedic doctor when she gets back to Virginia!!

Eeeekkk!!! Get well soon Nana!! ((HUGS))

I am sorry to hear about your loss.
Thank you. It was an expected one. My Mother in Law had been sick for about 2 years. We are comforted knowing she is with her beloved now.

I will go through and loosen them and see. I do agree mine is pretty tight.

I think it is sad that children cannot see their beauty because it is different than the "norm". Zoe is a beautiful little girl I hope she will be able to see how pretty she is as she gets older.

Yes it is knot really tieing it is looping them through. At least the ones I have made are.

Think I am going to add some bling to them as well and maybe some flowers depending on what the girls want. I added some pink thin ribbons (the 44 cent walmart ribbon) to DD 14's and I like it better with that.

I finished the middle ones today. :)
PA200001.jpg

I am already wishing I had not listened to them though and mixed the colors together. :rotfl:

Ms McKenna - the tutu looks AWESOME! What a sweet young lady you have! SO -did you try the rotary cutter on the tulle? What'd you think?

No actually we cut the initial cut on the tulle then we folded it and cut multiple layers with the sissors using more of a ripping motion so it would cut straight. It was working so I was afraid to try something new lmao. :rotfl: I will admit I am a bit sick of tulle. 50 yards of 54 inch wide tulle this week to cut into strips. I can definately see the benefit of using the rolls!

I make mine really full. I'll post a pic. I use 3 rolls (75 yards), sometimes just a little less, but it is definately more than 50 yards. You can make it work with 50 yards, but it just isn't as full. I use the hand tie method. Sorry I don't have pics of the tutu on.

tutus004.jpg

That is precious!!!! I may have to add some flowers to the girls!

Thanks for all the well wishes for Nana!! She's up this morning and is a little sore, but in good spirits. She has a bit of a black eye from where her glasses cut her, but she's doing well. She's a little disappointed that she can't do any sewing for a while.

Sending some well wishes for Nana as well! I am glad to hear she is doing better. :)

WOW! That is GREAT applique work! Look at the detail in the face! You're awesome!
You're so sweet. Thank you! I really was unsure about her eyes, but you guys made me feel so much better!

What time is it? It's JORD time!! I hope I got that name right.

Wowza...look at that fancy dancy applique that looks so real and such pretty fabrics and details and you are only half done!!! Very impressive!!! :thumbsup2
FAncy dancy, I like that!! ;)

Wow! That is amazing!

I am still afraid to do faces! Yours looks PERFECT!

Can't wait to see the finished project!
Wow, a compliment from Tom himself. My head is inflating at this very minute.

I still did it wrong, maybe I need to go to bed. DH fired up the pellet stove for the first time this year and it's too warm in here and making me sleeeepy...
So if you follow the link in my last post and scroll down a little, you'll see it. You can also see what the bunkbed on a Carnival cruiseship look like and my horse who grew a mustache last spring which was toooo funny.
California Screamin
:rotfl: :lmao: I love the moustached horse! You are crackying me up! Oh, the prince charming outfit is GREAT! I'd like to try to make something like that for Sawyer for Disney.

I love it! I knew earlier when you saw the fabric that you said you were doing a Cinderella pumpkin dress and I wondered how you were doing it and I love it! I kept picturing in my mind the Cinderella in the ball gown and couldn't figure how you were going to incorporate that into this fabric, but this is awesome! Love the idea!
Thank you!! Yeah, the blue wouldn't have really went with the outfit. It was impossible to find a good picture of Cinderella in her work outfit. I'll post directions on how I got this handy picture to work from in a bit.

Sorry I haven't multi-quoted today, I wanted to keep my posts up so I too can be a cool kid! :cool2:
Hey, the deal is if you've found this thread and posted on it, your automatically cool. :cool1: Now, stop trying to hone in on my post numbers! :rotfl2:

Finally finished my other dds dress, so it was my first circle skirt, my first applique. What do you think?

So pretty!! I love that you got to wear your mom's headpiece, too! I wore my sister's veil and my SIL wore it too. Hopefully our girls will wear it someday (FAR FAR in the future).
I love your siggy pic!! That is just too cute!

ONLY 84 DAYS TILL DISNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Melanie, if you want your pictures to show on the boards, you can right click on your photo bucket picture, go to properties. There will be an address, cut and paste that. Go to post on the boards, you will see a yellow box with a little mountain. Click on that and you'll get a box to put the URL from your properties, photo buck picture.

That is a cute dress. I love both of the fabrics. I'm afraid Kirsta is going to start outgrowing all this fun sewing. She'll be 7 in January.

GREAT IDEA! I will CASE that once we move into our house and I get a space dedicated to sewing/crafts.

Give Nana a hug from all of us at the Disboutique :grouphug: But, don't hug her too tight!

Gorgeous!! The bibs are cute, too! Yes, it will get much easier as you go. Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, just keep sewing...

Woo-hoo, pretty toes! :rotfl2: That is a gorgeous tutu! I love the flowers and ribbon!

Well, I had a huge mult-quote reply going yesterday and my computer decided to turn itself off right before I pressed send. I think I was saying something snotty to HeatherSue (about bows of course), something nice to Teresa, something about those cool bags I am going to CASE, something about begging for the pattern for Heather's cool Cinderella dress she is working on because I like to copy her, I can't remember what else. Maybe something about T's adorable outfits. Anyway, sorry!

First of all :snooty: for comment you probably made. I must confess, Tessa only has 1 bow. Yes, 1. I generally just put a little elastic thing in and put a litle barette over it. I'm a FRAUD!! I used McCalls 4888 for the Cinderella dress. CASE away with your short sleeved imitation! ;)

We just celebrated our 14th Anniv on Wed!!! It goes by so fast!!! lol!!!

Happy anniversary! You look so pretty in your wedding dress!

That looks great! Like others, I look forward to seeing the finished (and modeled) creation.
Thank you, Lisa! Thank you for the applique tutorial you posted a while back. It's really helped me out a lot.

I feel like I have been gone forever! All the new outfits are so cute! I can't believe how creative everyone is!
You HAVE been gone forever! Good to see you back!

I always have a hard time finding the exact picture I'd like to work off of when making an applique. So, I thought I'd let you all know how I figured out how to get pretty much any picture from a movie.

I just popped in Cinderella on DVD and played it with InterVideo WinDVD. This is a program that came with my computer and plays DVD movies. There is a little camera on the toolbar in this program. When you click on the camera, it takes a picture of whatever is on the screen. You can then save the picture to your computer and use whatever editing program you want to make it bigger or smaller, change the colors, whatever.

This is how I got this picture of Cinderella in her work clothes:
Cinderellaappliquepattern.jpg

Actually, the picture I got had a different face. But, I put a smiley-er face on it from another part of the movie. Anyway, I hope this all makes sense and someone can use it to get the perfect picture to turn into an applique.

What time is it? It's JORD time!! I hope I got that name right.

You got her name right although since I have been sewing for her, I have renamed her the "Buttless" wonder. Her pants won't stay up!!!!!!! My dd is NOT amused by the new name :confused3
