First of all for comment you probably made. I must confess, Tessa only has 1 bow. Yes, 1. I generally just put a little elastic thing in and put a litle barette over it. I'm a FRAUD!! I used McCalls 4888 for the Cinderella dress. CASE away with your short sleeved imitation!

Aww, don't worry about the lack of bows. As you know, I think they are highly overrated!

Thanks for the pattern number. I would never have looked at that and thought to do what you did. I guess that's why you are the designer and I copy you!

I always have a hard time finding the exact picture I'd like to work off of when making an applique. So, I thought I'd let you all know how I figured out how to get pretty much any picture from a movie.

I just popped in Cinderella on DVD and played it with InterVideo WinDVD. This is a program that came with my computer and plays DVD movies. There is a little camera on the toolbar in this program. When you click on the camera, it takes a picture of whatever is on the screen. You can then save the picture to your computer and use whatever editing program you want to make it bigger or smaller, change the colors, whatever.

This is how I got this picture of Cinderella in her work clothes:

Actually, the picture I got had a different face. But, I put a smiley-er face on it from another part of the movie. Anyway, I hope this all makes sense and someone can use it to get the perfect picture to turn into an applique.

Finally finished my other dds dress, so it was my first circle skirt, my first applique. What do you think?

What 20 yards of tulle looks like on a 14 year old.

And for good measure just because I like the picture.
The directions are on the first page under tutu it is just the tied one they are not sewn. It was supposed to be a dress but she said she looked "fat" so we flipped and I am buying a shirt to go with it and decorating it as well.

Great job! She is so NOT fat! What a cutie! I love the fact that she'll wear it too!

Well guys, sad news to report!! Nana is here, but today, while at JoAnn's at closing, we were checking out, and she fell and ended up breaking her right arm.

So, no sewing for Nana for a little bit!

She got a gash on her eyebrow from her glasses, but her shoulder took the weight of the entire fall. She ended up breaking the very, top park of her arm (near the ball). She has to wear a sling for a while, and follow up with an orthopedic doctor when she gets back to Virginia!!

Oh poor Nana! I hope everything ends up okay with the break and that it heals well.

I have been lurking quite a bit the last few weeks and I just want to say that I am loving all of the outfits everyone is posting.

Wanted to share my second project. Started working on some overalls and things did not go as planned. My DH thought I was possessed when I started talking to the sewing machine. Any hoo. I finally got the bib done after breaking a needle and realizing that the needle was in the wrong position.

The worse thing was once I finished the bib my daughter refused to wear it. I had to bribe her by telling her I would take her to auntie's house. I didn't finish the ruffles on the bottom or do the stitching around the applique because it was so jacked up. Going to rip it off and start over tomorrow.

She started laughing after I took the first picture and smiled for the second one.

Somebody please tell me that this will get easier and one day my projects will look good!

Okay, today is sewing day! DH is in charge of the kids and I am sewing! I have a lot of projects to finish! I need to topstitch my AK dress and was wondering what type of stitch to use? A straight stitch or a zigzag? I am unsure what looks best! Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! TIA

Everything has been fabulous - all the wedding/pregnancy photos. I'll have to see if I can do the picture of a picture thing and post some.

OK - off the top of my head here - I LOVED Heather's Cinderella pumpkin bodice (can't wait to see the finished product!) t-beri's minnie and princess toile outfits, all the tutus posted, the ribbon pants hanger storage thing (may have to case that) and TSNCS's dress. Oh, and angelfallenhere - that princess dress is darling! And desiab - so are those overalls! Stephres, my DS loved those pokemon pj's!

Nana, so sorry to hear about your fall/injury! I hope you heal quickly and feel better soon!

Ok, here's one thing that's been keeping me busy - a little pirate skirt for DD. It's the petal skirt pattern from YCMT. It wasn't too hard, really - but it took me forever to do the rolled hem on all those petals!

I need some help - what kind of top do you think I should make to go with this? I was thinking some kinda simple since the skirt is so busy? Maybe a red t-shirt with a pirate mickey head applique? Or a peasant shirt? What do you guys think?

I've thought about pausing the DVD on the TV and tracing the image from the screen but I totally forgot it's possible to play a DVD on my PC. I'm definitely NOT a high-tech person. LOL

I know many people use coloring book pages (online and hard copy) as a starting point for appliques. It's not always easy to find an image I like, though, so clip-art is another source. I open it in Paint Shop Pro, resize, add a "layer", trace the outline in black and fill in the rest in white to get a simpler line drawing of the image. I keep the original clip-art as a color reference, too. Some work better than others for this so I try to find images that are a decent size to start.

Teresa gave me the idea to do a Cinderella themed outfit. I think she mentioned before that she's a planner...then I take her ideas!

Yeah, you little idea stealer you!!! ;-) What do you call it when someone cases your idea before you actually make it? Or when you Case an outfit that was your idea to begin with???hmmmmmm Ok, my idea wasn't quite as elaborate as this though! Although, just remember when I eventually make my own version of this, IT WAS MY IDEA FIRST!

Actually, I was honored that Heather thought I had a good idea and made such a gorgeous outfit!

Here are some canvas bags I bought at Michaels for $3.29 and decorated. I'm going to fill them with stuff to keep the kids busy on our Loooooong drive to Disneyland in 1 week! (The extra bag is for Dnephew who has a looong flight to Orlando next month!)

The Pooh one is my favorite, but I love them all!

You might remember the High school musical set I made for my DD
add to that my DD's CPK (tiny doll, no patterns that fit) that goes everwhere with her and you get this.......

She is happy with it!

Hi Everyone. It's been ages since I've posted anything...boo hoo. The girls are wearing their Halloween skirts to Sea World tomorrow, where I'll be meeting up with Livindisney. (Cindee)
And yes, I leave for Disney in less than a week and the girls still do not have their outfits together. They have their Halloween costumes, but I just haven't given any effort to their park days...Oh my...
I will have to sit down and work on that.
I also have some news...I met another Diser today... JaxPooh, I think her name is. I bought a Halloween costume from her on Ebay and didn't know she was a Diser until I saw her tattoo...It was a Mickey head...LOL. I knew I had seen it before and it could only be one place...Here!!
We chatted for a few minutes and she has a really cute little boy.

You hate beer?????//// What? It's my favorite drink! (Besides Diet Coke!) Out of all of my neighbors, I'm the only woman who drinks beer. When we all get babysitters and go out to eat everyone else orders something "classy" like wine, martinis, etc. I'm all about Coors Light! My husband thinks I'm a cheap date!

Beer hater here too! Actually, I don't drink any alcohol. It makes me sick. (Really, it makes me physically ill). I do like the smell though, which is good becasue Brian is a big fan of beer!

I allowed cameras but no "money" shots, if you know what I mean! The hospital in KS allowed video cameras but my hospital in TX didn't but we left it on, on the table next to my bed at around my shoulder so it would record it for us. I actually don't know if it got anything, I guess I should see!

As far as being a witch goes..........I probably get that prize. With my second daughter I wouldn't let anyone come and see her until she was 3 weeks old (all of our family is from around 10 hours away so when they come they stay with us). Family wore me out with DD4 so I was exhausted for about 3 months after I had her (they just kept coming, and coming) and I was determined not to go through that again. I know it's mean but nobody came and helped, they came, sat on my couch and allowed me to take care of them instead of helping! I did all of the cleaning, laundry, cooking, etc. for everyone!

I have pictures and video of Corey's delivery and a really cool picture of Lydia actually coming out of my stomach! (c-section, obviously!) I couldn't believe that Brian actually took that picture, but it is really neat! For me, not so much to show company!

Uggh, relatives! I can't believe they would come and expect YOU to take care of them! GEESH! You were not a witch, you were just taking care of yourself and your family!

LOL - I have to say - I LOVED being pg - and was so PROUD of my big belly - stretch marks and all.

OHHH, I SOOO LOVED being pregnant too! I got SOOO mad at people when people who would tell me, "You don't look that big." I liked my big belly, don't try to act like it's not big! It's really irritating to be really showing and someone says, "I didn't even realize you were pregnant!" WHAT??? How fat do you think I am?????

I guess it would help if I included the picture.

The youngest one's done. I am going to have to sew the elastic but I want her to be here so I am sure I have it big enough. FYI 15 yards of tulle is apparently to much for a 5 year old lmao. That is probably 10 yards. I am off to finish the 14 year olds ... I am sure she will model hers when we are done.

WOW this takes me back! When I was growing up the cabbage patch dolls hit that first year. To make money for christmas my mother made clothes for cabbage patch dolls and we had a fashion show with the clothes and sold them. Then for christmas me and my sisters got a closet full of clothes for our new cabbage patch dolls.

When i think of it now...my god my poor mother must have been sewing like crazy!!!

I like that!! Did you use a serger for the rolled hem? I can't get mine to do that I can't decide if I would like a T or a peasant top. I'm partial to peasant tops, but I also like the Tshirts. Sorry, I guess I'm not much help!

Thanks! I had to post because I just had a mini-revelation. I have bunches of pieces of ribbon that I have bought off the roll so to speak. DS5 has been hoarding my empty thread spools, well, I wound ribbon on the empty thread spools and they fit perfectly on those in-between rows--wait I'll take a picture! DS is not going to be happy when he realizes his empty spools are gone!

I LOOOVE it!!! Corey looked for one of these hangers for me today at Walmart, but we couldn't find one! We will keep looking!

I think this looks great! Your daughter is TOO CUTE!!!

I make mine really full. I'll post a pic. I use 3 rolls (75 yards), sometimes just a little less, but it is definately more than 50 yards. You can make it work with 50 yards, but it just isn't as full. I use the hand tie method. Sorry I don't have pics of the tutu on.

I finally found a wedding pic on the computer - my friend and I made the head piece (nothing fancy) because i couldnt find anything affordable and not too fancy at the time - We just celebrated our 14th Anniv on Wed!!! It goes by so fast!!! lol!!!

I am going to make a tutu for dd10's costume today. I was going to actually tie knots and I looked at the directions and now I know that youdon't really tie them you just loop them through, right????? I've never made anything like that so I am hoping it works because it would be much easier than tieing a knot in each one!

I would usually go the more difficult route and do an elaborate and complicated pattern or something, but you guys have had such cute tied tutus that I'm going to give it a shot and be smart for once and not get myself into a really stressed out down to the wire sewing session!

I love that! I would do a peasant top with it. I love that pattern. I haven't used it yet, but I'm planning out an Ariel skirt with it.
