What a great idea! Hmm...We're planning another trip in February. I may need to make a blanket for the stroller. (A quilt is way over my skill level.)

Hey Disney4Me,
I like using fleece as the batting and backing for a quilt. It makes for a fast and easy quilt project that is super soft! You could piece the top simply with 6 inch squares, find coordinating fleece, sew right sides together, flip inside out and sew up the last little bit. I then sew a few lines up/down or whatever design you like to hold the two layers together. Voila...super soft woobie for stroller snuggling in WDW in February :)
Kay
P.S. It washes really well too!

I have to say I am a little bummed with the pictures. It is better in person. I still need to make the cape and the petticoat. The dress is full but I want it to be really really full. I love the rose bows. I put them on pin backs so I can take them off. I also bought a matching big rose.

Any ideas on how to pack this velvet monster!:rotfl:

I am so glad I finished and now I get to sew cotton!!!!

My Dh really liked it. He did say I wish you did not tell her about it. How are you ever going to keep it off her.

Wow that is so beautiful. You are so great at what you do. I would have been terrified to cut velvet let alone sew it. Great job.

Aimee, your Belle gown is gorgeous and I bet your DD will be the center of attention wherever she wears it.

Tom, don't get intimidated by fabric other than cotton prints. There are many special occasion fabrics that aren't that bad to work with nor terribly expensive. I made Zoe's gold gown from tissue lame' with an overlay of gold netting (kind of like tulle but heavier and is usually with the lace fabric). I think the lame' is around $4 per yard at JoAnns. It's a bit slippery but not bad, really. It does fray more easily so I zigzag stitched the edges of all pieces (that was before I had a serger). You might also look for cotton velveteen that is about the same as corduroy without the lines. About the only fabric I avoid is satin. I've always had issues getting it to work for me. I don't use expensive fabric because I sew to save money. LOL However, with a JoAnns' coupon, most fabric at the store is within reason for a special dress... plus I haunt the clearance section when those are 50% off. It's how I usually get the specialty fabric I'd never buy otherwise.

Lisa,
I have a rookie question for you. I want to try a twirl skirt, but don't have a serger. Should I set my stitch length on the smallest zig zag for finishing the edges? I practiced a little with it set at 1 and at 2 and both seemed to put a little fold in the fabric as I went along. Is that normal? Also, do I want the top of the zig (or is it the zag :)) to go right to the edge of the fabric?

I had one other question too. I don't know if this gives away trade secrets to answer, but I was wondering how you do the ruffle down the outside of the skirt like on the JoJo's Circus skirt (which I LOVE by the way!).
Thanks for your help.
Kay

I was giggling like a school girl while the kids were with him. He was SO GOOD with the girls. He played around with DN10's autograph book. She had the Pirate's one with the compass. He tried getting the compass to work and commented that it must be broken. He asked where we make port. After saying Pittsburgh, he said he heard there's pirates up there.

When the girls were done with pics, they tried ushering us off. But I stopped them. There was no way I wasn't going to meet Captain Jack Sparrow. He took my arm and rubbed my hand while getting our picture taken. I thought I would faint!

Definitely the highlight of my trip! Just don't tell DH!

Oh, I went all dreamy just reading this!!!! I hope that I get to meet him in December. That would make my trip!!!

livndisney ~ I love your pics! Makes me wish I was there.

Now I like this!

Yeah! We are done with our outfits. I may try to make some bows or headbands this week before we leave and mom might make my older dd a shirt to match her skirt.

Congrats!!! I can't wait unti I'm done! I know they had fun with their fashion show, my girls always do!

That color looks good on her! I love that Pooh fabric!

OMG OMG OMG! Gorgeous! I knew it would be worth waiting for, I just can't believe you put that together in just two days! It would take me forever!

That is great idea. It would be great to find a use for the Princess fleece that I keep saying No to DD. I tell her I do not know what to do!! Now, I do. Thanks!

Finished more creations today :goodvibes A real 'outfit' actually, a top and shorts. I know you are all so impressed :rotfl: I need to jazz them up a bit I think. Maybe add some pink to the top or a ruffle on the shorts. Dont know......The fabric has Pooh on it and it is SO cute!

I KNOW it's the inner 8 year old boy in me but....."EW!!! your dress has POOH on it!!!" :rotfl:

Just kidding, I have 3 boys so I can't help it! :rolleyes1

Your pooh (giggle) outfit really turned out cute!!!!!! I haven't seen that fabric yet! I want it and the Nemo!!!

Wow that is so beautiful. You are so great at what you do. I would have been terrified to cut velvet let alone sew it. Great job.

I was soooooooooooooooooo scared!! I bought a less expensive velvet. It was $12.99 a yard and I used the 40% off coupon. Still, I spent $25 on the velvet. I am really glad I did. It would not have been nearly as pretty with anything else. I talked to my Mom before I started to sew. She gave some tips and encouragement. She then said you really have to get it right the first time. The seem ripper and velvet do not go well together! I only had to rip about three inches. She was right.

Aimee!!! OHHHHHH MYYYYYY GOSHHHHH!

It really turned out RICH! I just love it!!!!

She will definitely know how much love went into the making of her beautiful clothes! You are a wonderful mama!!!

You need a NAP!

First off- Thanks so much to everyone. All of your wonderful compliments have really warmed my heart!:cutie: :cutie: :cutie: I got all emotional in the middle of the night when I was sewing. I started to think my DD is three and all she will see is a pretty dress to dance in but in 20 years when she looks back at the photos from our trip hopefully she will see all the love. I simply made this for her because I just love her to pieces!

Tom-

Satin is scary! :scared1: :scared1: It frays really easily. I made some doll clothes and it was a big expensive mess. I do not think I could have done this without the serger. Serging the seems makes life so much easier. Also, I am not super worried about her wearing the dress because I know it can be cleaned. (Just not by me.)

Do any of the pro's have any good tips for satin/costume sewing? I would love to know. I am still on the hook for Cinderella's pink dress.

Aimee, this is exactly how I feel!
A few of the friends and family that know that I sew are always so touched to see a Dad make these creations for his daughter. I do this for her because I love her sooo much and would do anything for her!
If she says "Daddy, I need a dress to see Mickey!" I tell her no problem, Daddy wil make it for you!

I hope that when she sees these pictures in the future, she will see all the love that went into every stitch, and really know that her Daddy truly does love her!:cloud9:

Lisa, thank you for your advice and encouragement! I will look for these fabrics the next time I venture out to a fabric store!
I do use a serger and love it, it makes everything so neat and finished.
The slippery aspect of fabric is what intimidates me! I am also so afraid of puckering and the final project not looking "neat" that I shy away from it.

Lisa-

When you did Zoe's gold dress how did you do the underskirt? I love how full the dress is. I have to make a underskirt or petticoat for DD and I really want it to be full.

Hem foot

All I can say is go get one! This little baby rocks. I picked one up today and the gal told me that it would take some practice. Well I practiced with it once and then attacted my dd's skirt! :rotfl: It worked great

All you need to do is keep an eye on where the fabric is and it will do the rest for you.

Now off to practice with the ruffle foot :cool1:

That doesn't sound too difficult. Do you use fleece for the squares as well as the backing? Or regular (non-fleece) fabric for the squares and use the fleece around the outside and the back? Does that make sense?

You did a fantastic job! Love the dress! I also used a serger on all my outfit and feel so much better I did. I always have this fear that some of the stitching will come out.

This is so cute. That top was a blast to make, wasn't it? I just made a dress like that and my mom and I were rolling on the floor laughing at how wide the dress pieces were before we gathered them. It was hysterical!:rotfl:

This is Sarah's shirt and decoupaged jeans, she loves them! I used her favorite jeans that had a hole in them, now they are like new!!!

Here are Abby's jeans... she doesn't like to match Sarah exactly, so I did something different and her shirt is going to be a little different. Hers has more red in it, the characters are dressed in their Wildcats colors.

Now I'll have to wash them several times cause I just can't wait to see how they look when the patches start to fray.

BTW, the HSM patches are the printable fabric! I just found some HSM clipart and printed them out. Not too bad!

My older dd would love these. If we only had some more time to get ready I might have to make some.

I kept thinking I did something wrong because it looked so huge! It still is quite wide, but she loved it. Didnt want to take it off yesteday.

I'd also love to know more about this! I keep telling my girls "no" when it comes to the fleece also. I've made traditional quilts, but I'm done with that since I've learned to sew clothes! But this I think I could do. Also dd8 is wanting to learn to sew and this sounds like something she could easily do! So, please share more! or PM me!
:thanks:
