Hey, I forgot to mention I met T-beri last night. It was great, we exchanged fabric and talked about sewing and the DIS. Very neat.

This is my latest creation. I made sleeves for the first time! They really weren't that hard; I don't know what I was so afraid of. I wanted to try a peasant top because I saw some outfits on Voldemort that were peasant tops and capris and they were so cute. Now I know I can do that. I was going to try to appliqué Nemo but I when I found the patch at JoAnn's I used that instead. Don't look too closely: I attempted another bow. Oh, please excuse her socks: she thinks they are blue so they match.

There are some in the bookmarks.

I put some bows on Lydia's dress, put in another row of shirring, and stuck her tutu on underneath to give it some POOF (I tried plastic bags, but they kept falling out). And, I put a crown on her just for Umama!

And, this is how Tessa and Lydia try to attract butterflies. I think she told me that they are suppose to look like a flower.

Our Disney Store had the iron ons they had for back to school for $2.99 yesterday. I got the Mickey/Pluto ones. They had tons of PowerRangers, Pirates, and Cars(maybe?) can't remember for sure. We dropped some major $$$ there yesterday, ooops. ;)

Man! I wish I had a Disney Store nearby!

I did my first applique last night! It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I can tell that I'll need a lot more practice before I attempt something with lots of turns or pieces.

This is a t-shirt for me. I'm going to make some type of skirt out of the small red dot to match a Minnie outfit for DD. We will wear them for our Chef Mickey dinner. Remember, this is my first applique, be gentle! :flower3:

Great Job Amy! I may work on my first Mickey Head today - MAYBE!

All it needs is a zipper. That will be for tomorrow.

Please excuse DD hair. She just rode 30 minutes with DH in his convertible Jeep! The last photo is my fav because you can see the sleeves and my DD said No more pictures Mommy!

I wanted to say 'hi' to all of you since I feel like I know you from reading this massive thread. Your beautiful designs have converted me. I broke out my mom's sewing machine and she and I used it for the first time Tues. This is really the first time I've made anything and it was coming along until the bobbin and I got into a fight and it won. Now it's sitting there waiting for her to come back and fix it this weekend.

I went to JoAnns yesterday and bought more fabric for our Disney trip. Once I get something completed, I'll try to post. And I'll try to respond more but I'm actually at work, and can't read this board all day :confused3

I noticed quite a few from Maryland- I live close to Annapolis- so Hi neighbors!

And, we're taking my DD for her 5th b-day on Spet 20- 24 at ASSp. I'm sure I'll see some of the fabulous clothes there!

Truly, this is an inspiring thread and I'm really excited about starting a new hobby :cool1:

April

Oh, and for the record, I love Harry Potter and Star Wars!

Hi April! Welcome to our custom obsessed group!! Can't wait to see what you make!

Here's what I got done on Friday night:

Boy, do I need practice!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not very happy with how it turned out, but dd6 loves them and that's all that matters. Anyone think it would've looked better with black lines?

Now to straighten the ruffle on the left leg, stitch up the side seam and I'm done with this outfit!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to say that I regret buying the Brother Disney SE-270D also. :guilty:

I thought a machine with the Disney name attached to it would be high quality, but I feel like it is cheap, flimsy, plastic CRAP! When I sew on bias tape around armholes, the machine makes a pounding sound. :scared: It does the same thing when I try sewing through several thicknesses of fabric. :scared: :scared:

My mom has a Singer from the 1970's that she bought when I was 3. She is the one who taught me how to sew, and I learned on her machine so I had a feel for what a machine was supposed to do. Her machine sews through several thicknesses with ease, and it doesn't sound like it is about to break in half!

I also have my mother's machine from the 70's!! I often think about the things she made for ME on it, while I sew for Mally! It's a Bernina and ALL metal! None of the parts are plastic, with the exception of the ends of the knobs. It weighs a TON, but still runs like a dream! I love it. I learned how to sew on it, and chances are, Mally will, too!

I was lucky to get it when my mother bought a new machine. She got another Bernina, but it is new with a computer and a bunch of fancy stitches. She misses her old machine, though! She had a problem with thread tearing b/f it reached the needle. To find out, the thread was making an indentation on the machine b/f it went through the needle. It was just enough to CUT the thread!! "THEY" just don't make things like they used to!

Hi All. I'm new to this thread - but I'm really enjoying it. HAs anyone ever done anything with a Mulan theme? I'd love to embellish overalls or something for my niece with her favorite character.

I'm really trying to catch up with this thread, so please forgive me if you already have had help with this!!

I LOVE the new Asian inspired wrap tops that there are patterns for. Why not do one in Mulan's colors and then make some jeans with the same color ribbons on the cuffs?

A pair of decoupage jeans in Asian prints would be neat, too!

Here's the result of my first twirl skirt attempt. I bought this basic tank to go with it - but now I'm not sure if I like it or not. What do you all think? What kind of top?

I LOVE IT!!!! I really like the tank with it, too... You did a fantastic job! The colors are great!

Where in Florida are you guys?

Thank you so much! At fist I felt like I was CAB-ing much of the time, I hope I am graduating to CASE-ing! Good thing Megan is not picky: she seems to love everything I make. We live in Palm Harbor, which is just outside of Tampa.

I love the Nemo outfit. Where is everyone getting the pattern for the top? Is it avail in bigger girl sizes?

I am a pattern-girl: I have so much trouble just winging it. Let me see if I can find the envelope, the dog chewed it up a little. It is Simplicity 4206, size 3,4,5,6. It has a tiered skirt, which is the first thing I ever sewed, capris, shorts and the peasant top. It is a Sewing for Dummies pattern so it was very easy and explained a lot. I am sure you could find something similar for a bigger size.

I put some bows on Lydia's dress, put in another row of shirring, and stuck her tutu on underneath to give it some POOF (I tried plastic bags, but they kept falling out). And, I put a crown on her just for Umama!

th_PrincessDress003.jpg

I love the bows! And the tutu! And of course the crown! I hope she attracted a lot of butterflies!

This is really cute.

My DD is the same way. It's blue/green/purple it matches! :rotfl:

Thank you! Usually she is good at matching. She just hasn't figured out the difference between matching and clashing yet. Little girls!

Here's what I got done on Friday night:
th_abbysariel6.jpg

I think it looks terrific! And don't ask me about black lines: I have no idea but I think LisaZoe is right: the black lines emphasize every little mistake. I can't see any mistakes in yours at all!

You're so lucky your dd can wear sandals to school. My dd goes to a public school with a strict dress code... It's so hot here in Florida I really hate putting shoes and socks on each day..I feel sorry for her.

Our school doesn't allow sandals either. They also don't allow clogs. I send my DD7 in her Crocs, but with the strap on the heel, so they're not technically clogs. I just got her the Mary Janes to wear as well.

I got my son some Keen sandals and thought they'd be okay since they're not open toe.

I hate the rule. I wear flip flops year round (except in the snow!)...

Thanks to everyone for your kind words and encouragement. I have to say if you are holding back on trying applique, Give it a try!!

I think your minnie is adorable. Sometimes the designs the twist and turns really come out better, because you can't see if there is a distinct curve or straight line. don't let it intimidate you.

Thank you! Ill definitely try again and maybe I'll even be more brave.

That is so pretty! And of course those shoes are perfect :cutie:

Well you all encouraged me to put a ruffle on the bottom of the back-to-school dresses so I did!! It looks much better and more finished off. Finished up all the fabric though! So here are the two finished dresses:

th_IMGP3971.jpg

I guess I missed these the first time around. I love the yellow with the BTS fabric and the ruffles do look good!

th_IMGP3969.jpg

Awesome work!! I love the patch with the Yo Ho!

Wow! This outfit it stunning!! The color are beautiful and I love your fabric choices. The fit the theme of your outfit perfectly. :thumbsup2

It's wonderful! You did a great job. Someday, I am going to try to do an applique.

You should make it a point to try it. You can obviously sew much better than me so I don't think you'd find it hard at all.
