Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 3

Well, most of you know that my mom is Nana and she usually does the sewing, I forgot to send her the fabric that I bought to make Madison's school outfit. So, I was forced to pull out my own machine and do some sewing. It's not perfect, but it was done for Monday morning.

It's not the greatest picture, because daddy wasn't really focused on the outfit, but here it is. And, it was my first try at applique too.

th_Maddie1stdayofschool.jpg

This is so cute! You did Nana proud!

My daughter loves frogs and would love this! The witch outfit is just darling as well.

Where did you find the ironworks fabric? Is that something you ordered online or did you go to a speciality shop? The outfit looks fantastic and I don't think the shirt looks like it has a heart on it.

I want to try to make a twirl skirt and a dress or something for our trip at the end of Sept. Nothing like pressure of time to make me learn fast, right?! I also saw some cute things on 'the auction site that shall remain nameless' that were overall shorts with an attached tulle skirt. Adorable but I refuse to pay $40 for something I can make for much less myself. Is tulle hard to work with?

I think this tutorial is great for a beginner who wants to make a twirl skirt.
http://www.kukyideas.com/journal/2006/07/tiered-skirt-tutorial.html

I had sewed in the past, but it had been a long time. I read through that tutorial and went to town with a few yards of coordinating fabrics. It wasn't bad at all. Go for it! :thumbsup2

Our Disney Store had the iron ons they had for back to school for $2.99 yesterday. I got the Mickey/Pluto ones. They had tons of PowerRangers, Pirates, and Cars(maybe?) can't remember for sure. We dropped some major $$$ there yesterday, ooops. ;)

I did my first applique last night! It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I can tell that I'll need a lot more practice before I attempt something with lots of turns or pieces.

This is a t-shirt for me. I'm going to make some type of skirt out of the small red dot to match a Minnie outfit for DD. We will wear them for our Chef Mickey dinner. Remember, this is my first applique, be gentle! :flower3:

By the way, it rained her today for the first time in 8 weeks!!!! I was so happy I drug all of my plants out into the ran and got soaked myself, but it was great! :dance3: (We need a rain dance smilie!)
It turned out so cute and your DD looks adorable!! Just thank our sprinkler system for the all the rain and storms that have flooded the midwest (although I didn't check to see where you live).

OK, I have been lurking and reading here the last few days (thanks to Utah Mamas plug on the peeps thread!) and now I am convinced I can sew. I have a machine, so how hard can it be, right? Any advice for a newbie? Maybe some first patterns to try? I see so many adorable things here and plan to hit the fabric store tomorrow to get some supplies to get started. The problem is that I dont know where to start!

The best place to start is my sister's links site that I have a link to in my siggy. There are all sorts of sewing tutorials for beginners and free patterns and such.

I think this turned out great!

I think your minnie is adorable. Sometimes the designs with the twist and turns really come out better, because you can't see if there is a distinct curve or straight line. don't let it intimidate you.

I finally got to get a picture of this dress!! I guess I should have taken one of the back. I used the purple coordinating princess fabric for the bow. She wanted to wear it to church, so I jumped at my chance. Don't you love the shoes! She has pretty white church shoes, but I just got the princess sneakers for Disney and she insisted on wearing them. I wasn't in the mood to argue, becuase it's time to comb her hair!! Talk about arguement. Hmmm.... I covered a headband to match.......... I wonder what she did with it...........

So CUTE!! My DD was sitting here and told me she wants one.....not sure I can do that just yet but who knows!

Where do you guys find disney fabric? Are there good online places or do you use local fabric stores (like joanns) and wallyworld?

Hi dance!
Wal mart has most of it.
Joann's has some too, but I never can find it at my Joann's.
Hobby lobby has it as well.

well I just went through 40+ pages as i am away at a medical conference...I found a computer kiosk today where I am for the conference (javits Center in NYC)...so I am standing at this computer going through pages and pages of this thread...people walking behind looking over my shoulder at all of yor wonderful creations !! I am jotting down pages that I need to go back to when I get home ;)

So I know that I am truly addicted now as I sat in my hotel room in Times Square last night sewing Mickey buttons and hot setting crystals onto 2 denim skirts for my DD's !!!

Get a life !!

I will post some of my Times square creations when I get home...there is always a memory attatched to every peice of custom creation

Well you all encouraged me to put a ruffle on the bottom of the back-to-school dresses so I did!! It looks much better and more finished off. Finished up all the fabric though! So here are the two finished dresses:

That's so gorgeous!!! The shoes match swimmingly- "pick your battles" I guess.
I bet everyone at church "oooohed" and "awwwww'd"!!!!

What pattern is that? Or is that a genius creation?

LadyfromDE that dress is beautiful....

I love the pirate overalls - where did you find pirate fabric?

Ladyrob, I have been wanting to tell you that you and your husband are the most beautiful couple I have ever seen! That photo of you in your wedding attire is just gorgeous.

Did my first twirl skirt last night using my serger - You are right, Lisa, it really doesn't matter what color thread you use...Oh my gosh, I AM WATCHING I LOVE LUCY AND THEY ARE WEARING TWIRL SKIRTS IN A COUNTRY NUMBER....I KNEW I SAW THOSE SKIRTS BEFORE....THEY ARE SQUARE DANCE SKIRTS!!! LOL....

Now, to try that narrow rolled hem...have to take one needle off my serger and can't find the screw driver that came with it...

Haven't opened my Disney Embroidery machine yet...sorry to hear so many bad reviews here...if it doesn't work, I will just send it back until I get one that does...

Bought a light box yesterday at Michael's. It was $50 and I asked of 40% off and all I had to do was sign a paper and they gave it to me!!! Got tracing paper and a coloring book of Disney princesses....so, now I have to print out Lisa's instructions....Lisa, can I pm you if I have trouble? There was a show in sewing with Nancy at 3am that I taped....it was about beginning embroidery and it described almost everything that Lisa told us...stabilizers...sprays...it was very informative...it was on one of our public tv channels....

I only have one DGD who is 2 1/2...3 grandsons under age 3....and I have enought fabric to make her 20 outfits....maybe I should open a Waldemort business.

Kmart had 50% off their summer clearance yesterday and I got 10 denim skirts and shorts to cut off and make into twirl skirts, and those little knit shirts with ruffle sleeves for $1.25, I am going to cut those sleeves off and add a ruffle to match the skirts....the pattern is on YCMT. Also had all of their Disney, Dora, Sesame on clearance plus 50% off...made out like a bandit.

Got the tulle on a roll to make a tie on tutu. That looks so simple...wish I didn't work full time. Joann had little tutus on clearance for $5. My DGD will complain it is itchy, so I will sew it onto something.

I agree, if you do not know how to sew, don't try something with a zipper right away....get someone to help you when you want to make something from a printed patterns like McCalls etc. I had my aunt teach me everything when I was a teenager...selvages, etc. and it took years of ripping to become really good at sewing. But don't give up. You will learn to love sewing and any time you need something really special and unique...you have the ability to do anything!!!... my daughters won many events in dresses and twirling and dance costumes I made them...and I have all those wonderful memories of knowing I made those outifts. When I am gone, I k now they will look back on those photos and remember how much love went into constucting and sewing those garments.

It is so evident how much you love your kiddos and grandkiddos seeing all these creations. I just enjoy this thread so much...and to have found so many adoptive parents is heartwarming. My DD is working on her second adoption from Russia, a girl this time. Please pray for us that God will bless her with a child born especially for our family...He already knows who it will be...Psalm 139 I believe it is....All my days were written in your book before I was even one day old....

Have a great day everyone!

Susan:love:

I bought a bunch of headbands to cover with fabric. Any tips/suggestions?

My mom made this for our October cruise

Great job....love how you lined up the princesses and even made a little bag for her! :thumbsup2

I did my first applique last night!

See its not too hard! Now you are off and running...keep practicing...it gets easier!! You did a wonderful job and the little bow is cute too! :woohoo:

Hey all!

Since we were talking about the joys of our children's sleep habits I thought I would start a new thread about it.

You can find it here:

Don't you mean "lack of sleep habits???" :rotfl2:

Don't you mean "lack of sleep habits???" :rotfl2:

Call it lack of sleep habits or or way to drive the parents crazy --either things works for me. ;)

Hey, I forgot to mention I met T-beri last night. It was great, we exchanged fabric and talked about sewing and the DIS. Very neat.

This is my latest creation. I made sleeves for the first time! They really weren't that hard; I don't know what I was so afraid of. I wanted to try a peasant top because I saw some outfits on Voldemort that were peasant tops and capris and they were so cute. Now I know I can do that. I was going to try to appliqué Nemo but I when I found the patch at JoAnn's I used that instead. Don't look too closely: I attempted another bow. Oh, please excuse her socks: she thinks they are blue so they match.

Another outfit for the cruise. I did the top, (remember my husband said it looks like a heart), well, I didn't change anything. My mom made the skirt. It is for our first night at Animator's Palate. I totally stole this idea from 2cutekids. I have a black and white outfit for that restaurant, too.
Please igoore the sweaty head and red cheeks, she was just back from soccer practice!

I love the outfit! I am so jealous of you going on the cruise!! Some day....

She has grown up almost overnight! That is what first grade does to your babies!:sad2:
That is my daughter in the picture in front of the fireplace. She was a flower girl in my niece's wedding when she was 2. Here are 2 pictures (sorry about the quality they are pictures of pictures!)
th_ebay347.jpg

th_ebay352.jpg

We still have the picture sitting there because we just had that room painted and we moved the furniture around, now I don't know where to put the picture, but I can't put it away, it is one of my favorites!!

OHHHH, HOW CUTE!!!! Thank you so much for putting it up. I love it! They do grow up fast, don't they though?!

No :guilty: ..... But I did go through my fabric stash at my Dad's and find you Bambi fabric. That counts right? :lmao:

You can call me when you come to WDW (Like I NEED an excuse to go see the Mouse :woohoo: )

That's why I want to meet you!!!! That fabric you sent me is so adorable, and you were SOOO SWEET to think of Arminda like that. It makes me all warm and happy inside to know there are people like you out there! Now, I just have to make up my mind what I want to do with the fabric! I keep changing my mind! I should just ask Arminda, huh?

Do you use the same stitch width within the same project? Like using the wider setting on Mulan's face, then narrow on her face?

I'm on my way home and I just wanted to say that Def Leppard rocked last night... oh and Foreigner was good too!
:rockband:

FOREIGNER TOO!!!!????!!!!!!

:rockband: Rock on Dude!

Hey, has anyone heard of the group Fortune and Maltese and The Fabulous Pallbears?? Heather and I know the drummer. He's our cousin's hubby. If you don't know them, look them up. ;)

I did my first applique last night! It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I can tell that I'll need a lot more practice before I attempt something with lots of turns or pieces.
