Another outfit for the cruise. I did the top, (remember my husband said it looks like a heart), well, I didn't change anything. My mom made the skirt. It is for our first night at Animator's Palate. I totally stole this idea from 2cutekids. I have a black and white outfit for that restaurant, too.
Please igoore the sweaty head and red cheeks, she was just back from soccer practice!

By the way, it rained her today for the first time in 8 weeks!!!! I was so happy I drug all of my plants out into the ran and got soaked myself, but it was great! :dance3: (We need a rain dance smilie!)

Hey Lori,
I don't know if this goes against the "boutique" look, but AC Moore has jewel tone purple shirts and you could use a Hannah Montana design iron on that spells out your daughter's name. There are some cute designs on the Creative DISigns board (Cruiser 1969 is the person...PM her if you are interested).
Just a thought...
I LOVE your outfits :)
Kay

That is way cute, I would totally wear that everyday...I mean I would put it on a child everyday. ;) So I have a theory now that WE just want to wear all these outfits, ha ha ha.

My black ribbon BLEEDS - brown - everywhere. :sad1: The steam from my iron made it bleed! I didn't know what it was from, so I washed my ticket holder and set it on my washer to dry. Now I have permanant stripes on my washing machine.
I have to call my friends tomorrow and warn them because I put it on my Minnie dress I made her. I never thought of pre-washing ribbon. How on earth would you go about that anyway.

WHEN did you daughter get so old???? She is growing up! What a lovely young lady she is!!! I love the dress, it is absolutely adorable!!!! I want to see a bigger picture of that picture in front of your fireplace, is that your daughter?

She has grown up almost overnight! That is what first grade does to your babies!:sad2:
That is my daughter in the picture in front of the fireplace. She was a flower girl in my niece's wedding when she was 2. Here are 2 pictures (sorry about the quality they are pictures of pictures!)

We still have the picture sitting there because we just had that room painted and we moved the furniture around, now I don't know where to put the picture, but I can't put it away, it is one of my favorites!!

It's certainly not laughable. Practice is definitely worth doing IMHO. Also, I think it helps to go as slow as your machine can while you get used to guiding the fabric to go around curves. You might also try a slightly wider stitch to see how you like that. The wider stitching makes little wiggles less noticable than a narrower stitch. Don't forget that few people do things perfectly the first time... or that's what I assure myself when I'm being hyper critical of my errors. ;)

Oh, good point. The applique foot definitely makes a difference for me, too.

I use my regular sewing machine on the zigzag setting with the stitch length set to the lowest setting. The width is something I adjust based on the detail of the applique as well as the size of it. I use the narrowest width for small pieces where detail matters, like eyes, mouth, etc. I use a wider setting for larger areas where there is still some detail. I sometimes use an even wider setting on very simple shapes where I want the stitching to be a bolder element of the design.

Thankyou so much for your advice. I am just going down to the material shopnow and will start my practice practice practice when I return. Thanks again for the help

Thanks for the replies. It is always interesting to here about how things work in different countries. I find it interesting, re the uniform stuff etc. I would love to dress my DD 5 in some great stuff to go to school, but the uniform will need to do for now. I am at the moment trying to get the uniform policy changed so that our girls can wear long pants to school in winter went it gets pretty cold at the moment they all have to wear a dress all year round.

Ok, I'm finally caught up on this thread. After spending all day last Saturday and Sunday working on my little girl's first day of preschool outfit, then a week of school, I finally got around to reading all of the posts in this thread.

Well, most of you know that my mom is Nana and she usually does the sewing, I forgot to send her the fabric that I bought to make Madison's school outfit. So, I was forced to pull out my own machine and do some sewing. It's not perfect, but it was done for Monday morning.

It's not the greatest picture, because daddy wasn't really focused on the outfit, but here it is. And, it was my first try at applique too.

WOW!!!! See You really do know how to sew.:woohoo: ....It looks WONDERFUL and the applique is really good!! Luv Ya:love:   Nana

Anyone going for christmas? check out "Boutique RESELL Custom Minnie Patchwork Christmas" Nice and the style may look VERY familiar:)

OK, I have been lurking and reading here the last few days (thanks to Utah Mamas plug on the peeps thread!) and now I am convinced I can sew. I have a machine, so how hard can it be, right? Any advice for a newbie? Maybe some first patterns to try? I see so many adorable things here and plan to hit the fabric store tomorrow to get some supplies to get started. The problem is that I dont know where to start!

I want to try to make a twirl skirt and a dress or something for our trip at the end of Sept. Nothing like pressure of time to make me learn fast, right?! I also saw some cute things on 'the auction site that shall remain nameless' that were overall shorts with an attached tulle skirt. Adorable but I refuse to pay $40 for something I can make for much less myself. Is tulle hard to work with?

I'm a relative newbie as well. I bought a machine in April after joining this thread and searching on ebay. I started out making pillow case dresses. They are super duper simple. I have made about 4 or 5 twirl skirts now. I just can't seem to get the looking exactly right. I don't know why, though.

My best piece of advice, don't make your first major project something complicated that involves a zipper, lol! Early on I tried to make a dress for dd for her bday and it had a zipper, complicated pattern. Took forever and ended up so short she couldn't wear it!!

I made a twirl skirt with tulle. I thought it was a pain but not too bad.

Thanks Kay! I am actualy looking for a T to embellish. I have a Hannah iron on - and then I am going to put a heart of the music note fabric on it - and I have a rhinestone iron on that says "rock star". Wish I had an AC Moore here to go look :(. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for posting that! I rarely think to search resells since I don't shop much. LOL I found 4 listings that are very familiar. I hope those sellers do really well. :)

you know I went to school in Sydney for a time in High School and I loved the uniforms. I remember how cold it was in the winter with skirt plaid uniforms on. I went to a private school with an ok plaid, but still not cute. It was hard to get used to. But I must admit a lot of the USA is changing and luckily making children wear uniforms. half of AZ has madatory uniforms in ther school districts. My kids go to private so they do not have a choice. preschool you can still wear fun clothes. The school has a fundraiser that allows the children to wear what ever they want (within rules) they come each with a $1 and it goes to the student council. It is enjoyable and cheaper to wear uniforms. It helps kids concentrate on learning!

Have you been holding out on us??? Tell us more about this outfit!!! Did you make it? LOVE the skirt. I still haven't done a twirl.

Yes, I am super behind. My mother's been here all week. She and I have been keeping busy everyday!

I did make the skirt from one of the YCMT patterns but the tee came from that taboo auction site.

Ohhhhh!!!! Well.... that's one way for them to get a re-model ;) ! Really glad to hear no one was injured. My back hurts just thinking of the clean-up they are faced with. If you're helping, promise you won't over-do it!!!!! That tree alone will be quite a chore to remove! :upsidedow Hang in there :flower3:
That gentleman in the green shirt (with the beard & shaved head) HE is actually one of the three guys, that the insurance people sent over to remove the tree ... he scurried up that "fallen chunk" & cut it apart, from the top down. The others pulled the bits away as he dropped them. It was all cut up & pulled aside within 2 hours = they were GOOD! :thumbsup2:
They left the "part" of the tree that was still standing, for now. I guess they'll be back later = they much have been busy that day ...
Table saws & jig saws are more my thing, not chain saws. ;) I'm not touching it! No worries there.

Thanks everyone (& mom)!!! It feels good to know that I finally made something (but I do love your work too mom)!!!

HI DANCE!!!!! Welcome to the thread I spend all day (off and on, of course) reading! Great groupa ladies and a super talented thread-dude too!

Prior to a month ago, I had just done baby blankets...straight lines, nothing fancy at all. Now I'm up to zippers and button holes and darts and costumes! But I'm really tough on myself. I like my stitches perfectly straight (if they show) and tend to re-do a lot. My way of doing this is to gradually challenge myself. Started out with pillowcase dress and a tube-top dress (already elasticy from Walmart). Each of my beginner things was seam-ripped at least once (more like 3 times).

If you can find the patterns marked "For Dummies", they provide more information on the pattern...which usually assume you are an expert

I have just worked with tulle once and asside from wanting to slip and slide (use pins?) it was pretty easy.

If you have questions, give a holler. Most are generous with opinions and helpful hints.

Really good to see you!!!!

Do you use the same stitch width within the same project? Like using the wider setting on Mulan's face, then narrow on her face?

I'm on my way home and I just wanted to say that Def Leppard rocked last night... oh and Foreigner was good too!
:rockband:

Ok I am going away in the morning for a week to the beacha nd wanted to say bye and I will see you when I get back and catch up on the million posts!
