She can wear sandals to school, as long as they have a back to them. No flip flops, or wheeled foot wear are allowed.

It was so hot here yesterday, that a lot of the surrounding schools closed due to the heat. DD's school does not have a/c, except for the library, and the office! She was so hot and flushed by the time she got home! Even her Minnie bow drooped from the heat!
She did have fun though, and can't wait until the weekend is over!

She does have to wear tennis shoes on gym day.

I can't believe you don't have a/c, here in Florida they close school if it's over 100 degrees...but it's been that almost every day...so they have done away with outside recess, and PE.

twins+2more - Thank you for your help!
LisaZoe - You are so generous with your knowledge and talent. I think I'm going to be brave enough to attempt an applique this weekend.

This is one of my all time favorite color combos! The skirt is wonderful. I love the detail with the ric rac. :cool1: I really like the t with it too.

th_bracelet.jpg

The bracelet itself is a bunch of entwined hearts.

The tiara represents her day of being a princess. (It's kind of hidden under the ribbon)
The cross is for her "christ like actions"
The heart is for my love for her
The flip flop represents her pedicure
The teapot and cup are for her "grown-up tea party at GF"
The picture frame will be filled with a pic of just she and I from our "day"
The purse is for a little shopping spree on her own
And the cheshire cat represents her very first tea party with Alice and the Mad Hatter when she was 5 years old at WDW right after her dad and I divorced. That trip was Her and I against the world.:cloud9:

I think it's beautiful and your dd is going to feel like a real princess that day. She sounds like such a wonderful girl and she will appreciate every bit of thought put into your gift. Enjoy your day!

Looks like she had a great day!

I have to say this again -- you guys are crazy talented. I'm so impressed with all the stuff you make.

But I have to ask -- when do you sleep?

Isn't it amazing??!! This thread is international so it moves day and night, 24/7!!!!!:surfweb:

It is amazing to me when I hear that someone/someplace does not have air conditioning. I'm in Texas and it gets dangerously hot here. In fact we'd do okay not to have central heating here. It rarely get cold and only for a couple weeks a year.

I think her pink cheeks look cute! Happy 1st day of school! :teacher:

When the kids let me. And that feels like its not nearly enough ;)

Thats what those silly kids get for not letting me sleep. :rotfl:
My DD has decided to be light sleeper this week, waking up at the slightest noise... so I have to :tiptoe: tiptoe around once I finally get her to sleep and hope...hope...hope...she stays asleep. Whew.

Good luck with her sleeping. My kids have always been pretty good sleepers with typical phases of disturbance. My younger one has gotten into this nervous phase and she pops out of bed after bedtime with all sorts of worries. You know -- fire and bad stuff etc. She's almost 9 and very creative. Bedtime and when her brain relaxes and then she thinks of things to worry about.

I made my first twirl skirt this week, finished it Thursday night so Rebecca could wear it to preschool on Friday. She absolutely loved it!!! She didnt want to take it off to get into the tub, and after we got her into jammies, it went back on, lol. So I hit my stash and found enough coordinates to make another. This one I didn't piece or embellish so it went together pretty quick. She's wearing it now, and I bet I'll have to sneak it away tonight so she won't want to wear it to church. I've got a new smocked dress for her that twirls nice, hopefully that will make her happy. But I bet I need to make a few more twirly things for weekday wear, 2 won't be enough!

The Tinkerbell overalls are finally finished!! Please excuse DD's wet hair and lack of top. She was fresh out of the shower and I wanted to catch the pics while she was agreeable. :rolleyes1

I started these back when I was just starting and I've learned a lot from all of you. Had I waited, I probably would have done a few things differently.

My mom made this for our October cruise

She could never get the elastic thread to work, so she made casings for the elastic

And the best part is, my daughter loves it and will wear it! Now if I could only sneak some hairbows in there!

I have finished my first ruffle and attached to the bottom of the skirt! Now my question. I have read that I should topstitch 1/8 inch from the seam. If I do the topstitching, do I still need to trim and finish the edges? I guess I would need to do that first? Or can I skip it if I'm doing the topstitching. Sorry, sounds really basic but I'm just not sure!

Also, do you topstitch each layer on a twirl skirt? I have not in the past but was wondering if I should. Or do you just do it with the ruffle to make it lay correctly?

I always finish my seams but I don't always topstitch. I used to topstitch all ruffles/gathered tiers on skirts thinking it was necessary to keep the ruffle hanging nicely. I did some experiments and found that as long as I cut the fabric on grain and iron the seam after sewing, the weight of the fabric keeps the ruffle hanging neatly. I will still topstitch on some skirt and other itsm, like ruffles on pants/jeans, but not on really full twirl skirts/dresses.

I love them! But then of course, Tink is my favorite. Did you start out with new overalls? I've been debating hitting some thrift shops to see what I could find.

Ok, now the hunt is on! I decided I would go get a press pad so I could start this applique thing right. Of course, I can't find one! I checked Michael's & Hobby Lobby - neither one had it. If you're hunting, you may not want to waste a trip. I'll have to go back out later (trying Hancock's - should've checked there first).

Ok, I'm finally caught up on this thread. After spending all day last Saturday and Sunday working on my little girl's first day of preschool outfit, then a week of school, I finally got around to reading all of the posts in this thread.

Well, most of you know that my mom is Nana and she usually does the sewing, I forgot to send her the fabric that I bought to make Madison's school outfit. So, I was forced to pull out my own machine and do some sewing. It's not perfect, but it was done for Monday morning.

It's not the greatest picture, because daddy wasn't really focused on the outfit, but here it is. And, it was my first try at applique too.

Lori, have you thought about taking a white tshirt in the style you like and dying it? I do this all the time for my girls when I cant find what I need. The Rit dye is only aout 2.99 or less and I know they have a great dark purple, the trick is to put it in the washer with HOT water and a cup of salt. Leave it for 20 minutes for the dark color and less for a lighter purple. I usually run the wash cycle with the dye/salt mixture for minute so it mixes into the clothing, and then turn the washer off for the desired amount of time. Then I pull the clothing up and check on it if I want it lighter than the color on the box. As soon as it reaches the desired color I shift it immediately into rinse cycle to get the dye off of it. If you remember my last sig picture, my girls had on princess dresses, all of those were dyed to the right colors of their fave princesses. Hope this helps and keeps you from having to do more work.
hmmmm - that's an option - although it scares me! LOL! I am a little "clumsy" sometimes and I can't imagine not ruining a few other things with dye when I do it!

Oh My - no AC in the classrooms? DD looks so sweet, that smile says it all!

Great job! I love it when DD wants to wear one of my "creations"!

These are adorable -- and I totally understand about getting DD to pose when she is agreeable. I really wish my DD liked overalls -- she absolutely refuses to wear them -- dresses no problem -- overalls a definite no no.

This is great -- I have the ironwork too for my planned dress -- I am now rethinking adding the yellow fabric too.

Great job!!! Love it!
