I would vote for short sleeves. Most people are surprised at how warm it is in Flordia even in the winter. My dd and I went last year from the 17th to 21st of Dec and it was hot! 78 degrees during the day. A little chilly at night. Here is a photo from last year, how the outfit started and then she got hot and we had to take the long sleeved shirt off.

Our trip is 12/8-12/14 and this is what I'm planning too. Mostly sleeveless and short sleeved outfits with a bunch of basic colored long sleeve tees to put under them if it's cold. Mostly longer capri legnth bottoms. For DS I'll probably just go with a neutral hoodie or lightweight fleece over his t-shirts. I think I'm also going to throw in a pair or two of those thin knit magic gloves.

ET - I used that same stripe to make Tammy's pirate pants. I was worried that people would think it looked like a cnvict - but it looks good on your nephew!!

Now I need to find a red and white stripe to make a sash for her - she has the mickey pirate ears wtih the red and white bandana.
Or at least she better be able to find it in last year's luggage!

Here is what I found at Jo Ann's.

Fabric for Megera-

Excellent Megara fabric, especially the ribbon. I can't wait to see the finished product!

Ok, so how do you shirr? It looks way difficult but it was an amazing outfit!

Thank you! Elastic thread is used in the bobbin and it needs to be hand wound onto the bobbin. The top spool is whatever color works with your outfit. Sew on the RIGHT side of the fabric in a straight line. Then do another straight line however far apart you want the elastic. You will need to pull the fabric going under the presser foot flat since it will bunch up as you sew due to the elastic. After about the third line you can really see it gathered nicely. On this top I did 6 really close lines. To determine the length, I practiced on scrap fabric and just applied math to know how much to start with and what the end size would be. For me, I used 1.5 times my DD8's chest measurement and it fits her just right without having to over stretch but also not falling off of her. I hope I helped some.

Also, thanks to teresajoy, the_seamstress, and stepmom3 for the nice comments on my DDs' outfits. Everyone is so encouraging here

After being so inspried by everyone I have bought a custom outfit for DN birthday. I have permission to share from the seller/designers. I fell in love with the JoJo outfit Tink561 bought for Gracie and our very own Diser Dena made a similar one for my DN  The pretty little girl in the photo is her DD :cutie: I found a seller on Voldemort to make the matching shoes :cool1:

Way too cute! Great choices!

Here is my latest outfit: a bit more appropriate for Florida. I stole the idea from UtahMomma and I think it came out great. It needed some more bling, so I bought some iron-on crystals and added them to the front. She wore it today to the back to school picnic. She got lots of comments on it.

I really like that style. I have some Pooh and Tigger fabric that I dont' know what to do with, this might work!

Great idea! They are so bright and colorful!

On another note :: we just got our tickets to the Halloween Time Party in Disneyland ...   i guess i better make up my mind on what my kids will be and start sewing there costumes:confused3

We're going too! I hope you have a great time!

I finished my 2nd applique (Well I almost finished it, I still have some detail work to do). I made the whole thing as requested by my DD. SHE is very happy with it!   I tried to get a decent picture of her spinning in it and couldn't catch her LOL.

Great job! My DD2 is obsessed with Roz :confused3: Not sure I could pull off an applique of her.

OK, you all have inspired me to dust off my sewing machine. For those of you who said that you have not sewed since Middle School, I think you are LYING! :lmao: Not only have I not sewed since then, I remember I was so bad back then that the teacher had to modify the final project to make it something I could actually do - I think it was a pre-cut pillow project :rotfl2:

Anyway, here are my projects from the last few days.

First one - the diaper pouch. I want to make one for my DSIL, so I figure I should make about 20 first in order to get one that is good :rotfl:

Terri

Great job! Your Middle School teacher would be proud :rotfl:

ARGGGGG!!! I am NOT meant to sew today!!!

That did sound like a rough day, I hope your machine has started to cooperate since then!

I don't want to not reply, but I'm obviously a bit behind so please forgive my rash of posts. I'll take a break from reading and responding now as I'm off to take DD8 to violin!

Oooh, that sounds interesting, what did he do? Did he show a special message for her while you were eating?

Yes we ate by the fish and the divers come through periodically which is cool anyway to watch. During dinner the diver came by and held up this sign for her. It was a really cool surprise. I called and got connected to Coral Reef directly and set it up with the manager there.

Thank you! I had seen pirates with striped pants before, so I thought why not? I bet Tammy will look great! Especially with a red/white sash to go on it! And, ummm arent' most pirates close to being convicts anyway.....:rotfl2:

Are you going to keep us all in suspense? What did she do?!?!
Let me preface this with, my child is not perfect, she is prone to teenage angst and drama and has earned he title of "Drama Queen" in our family. But she has her good moments! This explanation will be fairly long...

MY niece is a single mom with a 6 yo son. She doesn't have much money and isn't able to do things for her son. My dd was telling her cousin, my grand nephew, about getting to go to WDW and he sat there and listened and asked so many questions about it that when she came back to talk to me she said, "how come they never go" I had to explain to her that they didnt have the money. She asked me why not? I had to explain that being a single mom was hard work and you didnt always have alot of money and how lucky she was to be able to go to WDW as much as we did.

She then asked me if she paid for it, would they be able to go with us? I told her that was a big responsibility to make that much money and that if she thought she was up to it, and if they wanted to go, I would agree to it. But I wouldn't be able to help her much with paying because of so many medical bills. She said okay, she understood. She asked my other niece if she wanted to go also and when she said she did but couldnt afford much, she said if you will pay for your ticket and part of the room you can stay with christi, (the single mom). And then she worked ALL summer to make the rest of the needed amount of money to pay for their tickets and room. She worked hard. So my nieces and grand nephew have her to thank for their trip to WDW. I am trying to make clothing for them to wear so that they don't have added the expense of clothing for the trip.

If she knew I was telling on her she would be so embarassed.

Black is what I was thinking too.

This is the outfit that I have in my head to make. I plan on making a dress (shorter length) and then when it gets cooler, I am going to make her some pants for it.

What do you think? Also, where the skirt part meets the top, would you put some red ric-rack or something on it? Looks like it needs something on there.

backtoschoolmock.jpg

The black strips at the top are the straps -- just in case anyone is wondering.
CUTE! I Just bought the black alphabet fabric today. Ric-rack is always good! I Just got home from Wal-Mart and Hancock fabrics - UGH - I could have spent a small fortune! I am trying not to get ahead of myself and buy a ton of fabric - but it's so hard!!!

would you mind sharing why you had to take out 3 rows...I know it sounds bad but I seem to learn froms others mistakes....

LOL Two reasons, actually. The first is I forgot to sew on the RIGHT side of the fabric, which means the elastic thread showed on the front of the top. Second, when I wound the elastic on the bobbin, I did it too tight and didn't bunched the fabric up when I sewed. I rewound it without any tightness at all and it sewed beautifully. But next time I will be absolutely sure everything is correct first because it is really a pain to use a seam ripper on elastic thread!

thanks...that was one question I had was what side to sew it on...this is next weeks project as I am off to a medical conference the rest of this week and I am sure to have withdrawl from these boards - although I am going to NYC and I have marked down the addresses of those button/bead/ and fabric stores to visit while in the garmet district :cool1:

Slightly OT:

Since I am re-doing all my DDs tops, I am wondering if I should make some of them long sleeves.
We are going over Thanksgiving and first part of Dec.

What do you think? Short of long sleeves?
Thanks.

In other news: I am more than half way through my first peasant blouse for her. I will post when I get it done.

I would go short sleeved and have a sweater handy - that way it is good for warmer and cooler weather.

You know it would cute to continually surprise her during the trip with unexpected things like this. She would be so surprised.

Do ya'll think a memory bracelet with something to represent all her surprises on it would be good? My mom suggested one, she's big into those charm bracelets and my dd loves jewelry. ??? Maybe let her know how special she is?

She is an impressive young girl. What a big heart she has. Thank you for sharing this with us.
And I think all kids have there "drama queen" moments...some last longer than other ;)

WOW! What an amazing young lady! That just made me cry! You have every right to be very, very proud of her!

With all the tallk abou cricut, does anyone know if the wishblade would work? My DS has one and from my understanding, you don't need cartridges. It hooks up to the computer and you can download files, fonts. It's more expensive than the cricut, but you don't ever have to buy anything else to go with it!
