I have that material and wanted to do an applique on a shirt for Jeanie to match her skirt -
but after my nemo applique, I think I'll pass.
I'll post pics of it later.
But, suffice it to say, I suck at appliques!

I'm in Lafayette, and I am the very last person you want to teach you to applique!!!! I'm serious when I say I think Sebastian looks horrible. The letters turned out nice, then it just went downhill from there. I went to Kmart today and picked up two of those Ariel sequin tank tops so I don't have to do any more appliques than necessary! I do have three more Ariel outfits to finish!

Step by step-
adhere the fabric that you want to applique to the heat n bond. Leave the back of the heat n bond on. Stencil the letters, or whatever shape you are doing to the back on the heat n bond paper, you must draw them BACKWARDS so that when you cut them out it with be correct on the front fabric, it you don't the letters will be backwards on the fabric. Since you are drawing on the back it is the mirror image. Make sense? After the design is cut out, take off the back of the heat n bond and adhere the applique fabric to the garment fabric. Applique.

This method works if you're using stencils. If you're tracing something, you'll want to trace it backwards onto the paper side of your heat n'bond before you iron it onto your fabric. Because you won't be able to see through the fabric to trace your pattern.

I just bought that yellow dot at WM "just because" and now I remember why!

Where can I find the best pillowcase pattern? Not pillowcase "dress" but a regular pillowcase just like this.

do i have to wash my fabric before applying it to the jeans or no???? im really not sure!!! thanks, wendy

I always prewash fabric and jeans. I've had some prints bleed onto lighter colored ones plus you just never know if one fabric will shrink more than the others and cause problems, especially if you're working with natural fibers. My fabric goes into the laundry hamper as soon as I bring it in from the store so I know what's been washed and what hasn't.

tnmom- the best place to find a pattern for a pillow case is on your own bed! Just measure the sides of your pillowcase and cuut accordingly. DOn;t forget to add a little for the seams- any where from 1/2' to 1' depending on how wide you want your seams to be.

This is a real easy thing to do! Good luck!

Wow! So many responses about all the tulle it takes to make thsi skirt! Thanks to everyone! I just can't imagine 65 yards of anything!! I'm gonna start with 10! I figure when I tie the strips on, I can always add more. Here is a picture of the last one I made (posted before but it's my favorite, so I am posting again...bear with me please!!)

It was pretty easy by the way. Next time I'd just do longer strips, and use a piece of cardboard to wrap the tulle around and make one big cut insteas of tons of little ones!

Keep in mind that is 65 yards of the 6" wide roll. If you're buying yardage of the usual tulle (58-60" wide), you'd need a LOT less to get 65 yards of 6" wide strips.

Duh! I feel stupid!!! I guess for the finished trim I fold the fabric in half and iron it so that it has no seams showing in the opening? What about piping, how does that stuff work?

I usually just fold the bigger sizes under. That's the way my mom did & I just assumed that what everyone did until I heard someone say something about getting a new one for the next size once. If it's a curve I just cut under the pattern (you can see through it so you know where you're supposed to cut).

How does your mother do the Disney font, and where did you get the applique for the pillowcase? Did she do it herself?

We actually downloaded the Disney "True Type Font" (like for Microsoft Word)from a website and her machine (the new Viking, I think) will sew it out. I've also seen the font designs on eBay, but this was free and easy! I did buy the Mickey head applique design on eBay....it comes in this size (for a 4x4 hoop) and one bigger. It sews out really nice - much easier than doing them by hand.

I was wondering - does anyone here know what a Cricut is? It is a die cut machine for scrapbooking/cardmaking. Anyway, I own one and thought I would see if anyone knows if it will cut material. Thought I would ask if anyone knew before I try and mess up a blade - LOL. They have a disney cartridge - not to mention all the other cartridges - oh the possibilities! It would make cutting out an applique really easy!!!

EDIT: IT CUTS!!!! You guys HAVE to check this machine out!!! I may have to get the Disney Cartridge!!! It cut it all in secions - PERFECT for applique! You have to apply an interfacing first though to stiffen the fabric! I am off to a hair appointment for DD - but when I get back I will post pics!!! She is cutting for Locks of Love for the second time.

Too cool, I knew I bought this for a reason. Now I can justify the cost of the machine and "having" to get the Disney cartridges (that I have never used BTW) I can't wait to try this!!! Maybe tomorrow since it is supposed to rain all day again!

I have the cutest 3 year old cousin (she's a smart easygoing kid)

My mom suggested that I make her Halloween costume so I asked her what she wanted to be. First she said "Mimi" (apparently Hello Kitty's sister???) but after much convincing, settled on another character

Ok, I know red minnie mouse fabric is out there at Walmart (saw a ton of it there last week) but is it going to be possible to find larger white on pink??? Anyone know of it for fairly cheap?

And should I just CASE the costume from tons of pictures or is there a pattern/tutorial out there? She wears at least a 4 but I could skinny down a 5 because she is so tall.

Any tips for my first Minnie Mouse costume????

You could use the bandanas they sell in Walmart. They come in pink with a big dot, and are only 94 cents each...

I don't know if anyone answered you or not, but I just took off my whole presser foot, from the screw, not just the clip. Then I just asked for help at Hancocks. They told me that the "high" type has a slant to it, so if your foot doesn't have a slant to it, then it is probably a "low" foot. Hope this kind of helps!

WOO HOO! I'm OUT! It works! It works! Let the twirl skirts begin! I can't believe how easy it is (serger)! I did have to stop and rethread once. It was a tad bit difficult, but there's a diagram right there to follow. That thing is a speed demon! All of my creations will have gorgeous insides from now on! AND AGAIN!

I went to Hobby Lobby today and found these cute fabrics. I don't think I have ever seen the Princess one before. I didn't know how much I would need of each one so I just bought the whole bolt. I figure what I don't use I can sell!
