Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 3

I found it at Walmart a few months ago. Not the best quality in the world, but when I ran out and wanted more for a pillowcase, it was gone. And I can't find anything like it at Hancock or Joanns. :sad2: I like it with the red Minnie dot - just wish my Walmart still had it.

I too have been looking for yellow polka dot. I found some with the gingham at Jo Ann's. I am making DD a sock monkey dress for the first day of school. I have everything cut out so I should go take a pic of the pieces.

Not clothes, but here is a pillowcase we made for character autographs on our cruise. I'm planning on having them sign on the yellow part with a black marker. I thought it would make a cute souvenir for DD. Her name is on the other side in the same Disney font.

Whew! It's taken me two days to get caught up off and on. I did manage to finish a few projects last week for my DD's Teddy Bear Picnic class. I made a couple of swing tops. As soon as I remember the safe place I put the digital camera I'll take pictures to post.

I went to the two Joann's closest to me but couldn't locate any of the black with orange polka dot fabric. I'm bummed. I wanted some to put with the Disney Halloween fabric I found for a twirly shirt. I'll keep looking.

I've got to crack on with some of my projects for Disney. I've got two capri sets, 2 twirly tops, a twirly skirt and a t-shirt to applique all before Sept. 20. I hope I can get it all done.

We're desperately trying to finish up potty training so that we can actually attend preschool so keep your fingers crossed for me. My DD is really stubborn about this, just like with everything else, she'll wake up one day and just decide that she's done with pull ups and she'll be on her merry little way. I just hope she gets it done before Sept. 11 when school starts.

I'm going to get back to work but I'll have to keep up on this thread, I had 20+ pages to get caught up just from not reading Friday night and Saturday.

hi -

this might be a silly question - but i think you all can answer it for me,,,,

when making patches or appliques - do you wash the fabric first? how do you put backing on it? when you sew the applique on, any tips for beginners???? please????

any ideas for a very simple top - can be sleeveless, but no halter style (just doesnt work for my neices) i got this really cool patchwork rainbow material at walmart, and it would go awesome with jeans,,,,just not positive what to do with it!!!

thanks, wendy

It is best to wash all fabric first so it doesn't shrink after you've done all your work. The heat n bond is iron on. Iron on first to applique fabric and then on to garment fabric. Tip for applique - try it first on cotton or denim, not on knit (such as t-shirt). Go slow, practice, practice, practice. I do very easy tops that are basically just cutting a bunch of rectangles out and then armholes. If you want instructions let me know.

Here's the twirly dress I won on the auction site that shall not be mentioned :rotfl:. I think it turned out really cute, and considering one just sold for twice what I paid, I'm really happy with it!

I am so glad you got this, it is totally adorable!

I got the yellow polka dot, too. We are using it in a dress for my DD. It was $2 a yard and now I am wishing I bought the whole bolt and not just 1 yard!

And to think I have been using plain white pillow cases that I had someone embroidery. Now I have to have one like this!!
(Wow, I quoted you 3 times!)

How much tulle do you think I need to make this? I want to do it in pale blue to match a Cinderella outfit. Thanks
10d6c09c.jpg
I purchased a bolt of tulle from Hobby Lobby it had 40 yards and I used my 40% off coupon so it was only $20. I would recommend if you are going to make this to buy the wider tulle, cut it to the length, fold it in half and make a casing across the folded part (is that the right sewing term? I am still new to this! Anyway, a hole you can pull the elastic through)
I ahve done it both ways now and this seems easier, not as much cutting or tying! I can show you a picture of one I did with the casing, if you want. It is not a real full one because I made it for my friend to be the tooth fairy. But you can easliy make this type extremely full!

Here are a couple outfits for our trip. I can't take the credit - MIL made them, but I thought they were cute.

These are totally cute. I love the sailor hat on minnie and love Chandler's name in the Walt Disney Font!! I may have to CASE that sailor minnie...too cute!!

I was wondering - does anyone here know what a Cricut is? It is a die cut machine for scrapbooking/cardmaking. Anyway, I own one and thought I would see if anyone knows if it will cut material. Thought I would ask if anyone knew before I try and mess up a blade - LOL. They have a disney cartridge - not to mention all the other cartridges - oh the possibilities! It would make cutting out an applique really easy!!!
Lori

EDIT: IT CUTS!!!! You guys HAVE to check this machine out!!! I may have to get the Disney Cartridge!!! It cut it all in secions - PERFECT for applique! You have to apply an interfacing first though to stiffen the fabric! I am off to a hair appointment for DD - but when I get back I will post pics!!! She is cutting for Locks of Love for the second time.
I have a Cricut!:cool1: Does this mean I can make appliques the easy way? Unfortunately I have the small one so my largest applique would only be 5 1/2 inches. Who new being a scrapbooker could help you in sewing?!

OH I forgot to add. I worked on my WinnieTP outfit last night. My sewing machine hates me. It would randomly start sewing, oh about, 30 stitches per inch. Here is what I think people will say when they see it. "Aw did you make that yourself? Bless your heart."
Oh well he can wear it for 3 hours at our CP breakfast and MK and then I will throw the stupid thing in the trash. I named my seam ripper Beavis last night, any guesses at what my sewing machine is now named? LOL

Uh...would that be "Butt-head"....:lmao: :lmao:
You don't have a Disney Brother do you? Mine does that to me once in a while. I will be sewing along, and then all of a sudden...WHAM...the machine starts sewing triple time and won't stop even though my foot is off the pedal...I have to pull the plug out to make it stop..
I sware it's possessed....

I'm sure this has been told somewhere but what is the best way to wash your material? I have never washed mine before but guess I should start.

Thanks.

How does your mother do the Disney font, and where did you get the applique for the pillowcase? Did she do it herself?

Hi All, I just found out we will be at Disney for the MNSSHP, or whatever it's called...Yea!! So now I have to find costumes for my dd's.
So far the ideas are....Tinkerbell sitting on a toadstool..(there's something like it on our favorite auction site), or a car hop at Minnie's Diner...
Anyone else have any ideas that aren't princesses, witches, devils, or hanna montanna...LOL
When I asked my littlest if she wanted to be Shirley Temple for Halloween, her reply was," Who's Shirley Pitbull?":rotfl: :rotfl:

I can't wait to see the pics! I have wanted one of these for awhile. I am big into scrapping but now it's a must have. I know what I am asking santa for for x-mas.

sitting at my desk laughing so hard my nurse came to ask me if I was OK - she wouldn't understand:rolleyes1

Will the owner of this cute oiutfit please stand up? LOL
I remember seeing more pics of this & cannot find them in all the posts here, but I really wanted to see the front again. It is super cute!

Are we allowed to post the names of Etsy stores? Or other stores for that matter? I am unclear on the rules and not sure where to look.
I'm not sure, but I would think no. I know normal type stores are ok, but it's a grey area there with the Etsy sites. You could try PMing a mod.

Heather...You and Teresa are so funny together...I like that you look out for each other and are so close. I hope my little ones are the same way when they grow up!

Awww, thanks! We have a brother too. He and I were very close growing up, but not as much now. He went through some very rough periods! I was so glad when Lydia was born, because I wanted them to have the relationship that Heather and I have always had.
You guys are so sweet! Sometimes I am afraid I get lost on this thread and then you or Heather or t-beri say something that makes me almost cry. Thank you!!
You will NEVER get lost in this thread with your wonderful personality, beautiful daughter and gorgeous creations!

I am SOO excited to share my completed customs with you guys!!

I still have to do some appliqued T's and polos for my DS5, but here is what I've done for Mally (DD7). I would like to have time to make her one more outfit, either Cinderella themed or princess themed of some kind. I am also thinking of a High School Musical outfit...

This was my first attempt at the decoupage method. I had the jean jacket laying around (it won't fit Mally long) just waiting for the opportunity to be embellished! Catch the HIDDEN MICKEYS???

Jeanjacketback.jpg
Great job!

Here is what I did yesterday. It is my trial run for my planned Belle outfit -(I spent $60 on the fabric for the Belle outfit so I NEEDED to do a test run on something else... anyway I learned to do BUTTONHOLES yesterday -- yeah Here it is -- retrorocket:

I love it!

Nana and I made my wedding dress, and it was the same way, it took several patterns, and a couple of mock-ups in muslin before we got it the way we wanted! She did all the sewing, I had to do all the beading. I wanted a bodice full of pearls, so 3000 pearls later, I gave mom all the pattern pieces back, and she did the sewing on the dress. Thanks again, mom!!!

Heather and our Mom put the pearls and sequins on my wedding dress.

I Made DD Appliqued MMhead shirt last night. I am happy with it. Don't look too close ;)
MMfront.jpg

Ugh, looks like it needs to be ironed again.
the backs shows the bow, although I obviously need to practice my bow making.
I left the ribbon really long and will wait until we pack to trim and seal the edges.

I have two more. First is the girls with their matching princess shirts. Then we have the family with our matching tye dye.s

I'm a pattern model....
Could be worse....you could be a colonoscopy equipment tester
True, true!
This reminds me of me making AliKat99's first prom dress....memories of sitting in a livingroom chair being surrounded by 15 yards of "Southern Belle" skirt trying to put on a 8" double standing ruffle on to the bottom and ending up 18" short on the ruffle (done without a ruffler BTW...had it but didn't know how to use it It was the eighties...you know BIG full length skirt!!!

I made Heather's prom dresses, but it was the 90's so there wasn't as much fabric involved!

Yep, I thought honesty was the best policy too! Especially since she now has the dress I was going to CASE as her avatar!
Oh you are all too funny! I am flattered you like my design enough to case it! What a compliment.
I love anything Disney! I just love the pastel Alice set, and Minnie overalls! Deco Mickey is way cool! Great job!

Oh, thank goodness! I feel better going ahead with it with your blessings! :)

Deann, it looks great!
I finally have enoughj posts to share some things I've done. My budget isn't glad I found this board, but my dds & I sure are!
This is my first applique & my first patchwork work.

Pooh, I miss the castle bling! I was there when they were hauling it down last year. Seemed kinda nekkie afterward. (Better nekkie than turned into a cake! Anyone bemember the cake???)
I really and truly liked the cake!

Why My Husband Rocks-

Oh, that was SOOO nice of him!
Ok, I'm going into lurkmode for a while. At least, I'm going to try to. I know it will be hard, but I homeschool my children and we have to start school today. Well, we don't have to, but we are. My computer breaks will be spread out the day between tasks and my sewing is going to be limited to quiet time and after the girls go to bed. So, you all keep sewing and inspiring me and I will be lurking, maybe ;) .
Oh no you don't!!!! Why don't you pretend you live in Michigan??? We don't start school until after Labor Day, state law!!! Woo hoo!!! :cool1:
Aw, I'll miss you! Megan loves the Ariel outfit and wants me to make her one like it. She loves to shop on this thread and pick out outfits! Anyway, good luck with your first day of school. I send mine off tomorrow (first day of kindergarten, sniff!).
 I'll need lots of support next year when my Liddy starts school. They have every day, all day kindergarten. I'm just hoping she gets the same teacher Arminda had, she was WONDERFUL!!!

I love the castle this way because this is the way it was decorated for my DD's first WDW trip.

BTW, I didn't like the bling cake at all!! Different strokes......
'
I liked the bling, but I also loved the pink cake! Glad someone else did too!!!

I know this has been mentioned a ton of times, but does anyone have a link to an easy twirl skirt or strip skirt pattern? I found some adorable pirate fabric, and I wanted to make a Halloween skirt.

Thanks!
There are several twirly skirt patterns in the bookmarks site.

This is the peasant top for DD5. Do you all like the MM head centered or down to the side?

th_disboutique028.jpg

And best of all. I went on a walk with my son this am and look what I found in someone's trash. I don't normally go dumpster diving, but this was right beside their trash can at the end of their long driveway. I had to clean it up a bit but I thought it would be a pretty awesome decoration in my sewing room.

Keep making me laugh girls. I love reading all your comments on life and everything else.

I love the outfits. I like the Mickey head off to the side. And, great find!!!!

Well I am pleased to say that DB actually sent me a picture via the cell phone of DN3 in her JoJo outfit at WDW :thumbsup2 I don't know if she was wearing the shoes and I didn't ask. He said she had a great time and JoJo at MGM made a fuss over her outfit

I am a happy camper

Oh, I am SOO happy for you! I was really upset after reading your earlier post!!

Does anyone happen to have a link or instructions on how to make a simple skirt out of two bandannas for a little girl? I saw it somewhere and picked up some super cool bandannas....I didn't book mark the link :guilty:

Maybe I'll just fiddle with them to see if I can remember. I think it was tied not elastic'd.

Much appreciation and thanks in advance! :grouphug:

I am pretty sure I have one of those in my bookmarks site. It was a Martha Stewart pattern I think.

Here are a couple outfits for our trip. I can't take the credit - MIL made them, but I thought they were cute.

I agree with the casing suggestion. It's a lot easier than tying, if you ask me.

For anyone who loves peter pan, and is looking for something to make a necklace with--- check out Peter P@n clay beads....they are pricey, but adorable...and yes..type the name in, with the a like that...

Thank you for the birthday wishes..It's a big one I was hoping to ignore but my family inists on cake-cause I NEED that!!!

...t.

t- Is it your BIG, big birthday? The ((hushed whispers out of reverence))
40th? :rotfl2: Mine is in 23 more days!!!! How does it feel? Did you wake up all super wise and patient? That's what I'm hoping for! That, and the sudden urge to exercise (LOL!!!!!)

Have a WONDERFUL day! And remember, birthday cake doesn't have any calories!

You are SO loved!!!
