I have another question for all of you ladies & Tom.....

When you buy a pattern (say a size 3, 4 & 5) and your child needs the 3, do you trace that size on something so that you don't waste the 4 & 5 sizes to?

I usually trace my sizes on butcher paper so that I don't ruin the other sizes that she isn't in yet and I get the most money out of my patterns. However, I am out of butcher paper and don't know where to buy it (my MIL gave me the last roll I had and she lives out of state) and I really want to do some sewing on a new pattern.

I went to Jo-Ann's and asked them since I was reading on other sites to use some sort of interfacing for copying (or someone used that). When I explained what I wanted it for, the lady gave me this stuff that has blue graph lines on it. That seems to work well -- thin like the pattern so easy to pin to the fabric & can still put the markings, etc... on it.

Who was looking for this trick or treat fabric????

Anyway, I bought it at Jo Ann's this weekend. I had not seen it there before. I cannot remember who was searching for it but . . . I have 2 yards and it was only $5.00. PM if you still need it.

I am not an expert by any means. I will tell you what I have figured out but hopefully a pro with give you more advice. I did the twirl halloween skirt using a ruffler foot. While I was playing around with it, I thought the best effect was to set it at a 1 setting (which means it ruffles every 1 stitch) but at a 4 depth (deepest depth for mine is 8), this way it is not so pleated looking but more of a tight gather. Now I adjusted the stitch length to a 4.5 so that it was a more spread out gather. At this setting the ruffle was almost half of the original cut fabric. I may have a different ruffler but I did experiment with the stitch length to find exactly the effect that I wanted. So if you want a tighter ruffle then shorten the stitch length, longer lengthen. Hope that helps.

thanks...im off to "play" w/ my machine again!

And best of all. I went on a walk with my son this am and look what I found in someone's trash. I don't normally go dumpster diving, but this was right beside their trash can at the end of their long driveway. I had to clean it up a bit but I thought it would be a pretty awesome decoration in my sewing room.

Keep making me laugh girls. I love reading all your comments on life and everything else.

This is very similar to my moms machine, I would put it right around 1940, my moms is a 41. Though hers is mint and works like a charm

The outfit isn't finished but as promised here is a work in progress.

I am not very happy with the top. Mind you I pretty much made this pattern myself modifying patterns I had. I think I cut the top to straight it may have needed a little bit of an A line. Also, DMIL and I had different opinions about the fullness of the bottom ruffle. The pant ruffles are currently cut the same but I am going to redo them more like the top ruffle.

Is it too plain?? Ideas anyone?

Well I am pleased to say that DB actually sent me a picture via the cell phone of DN3 in her JoJo outfit at WDW :thumbsup2 I don't know if she was wearing the shoes and I didn't ask. He said she had a great time and JoJo at MGM made a fuss over her outfit :cool1:

I am a happy camper :yay:

lazydazy- LOVE the decoupage jean set and peasant top. I love that it is disnefied without being over the top.

Olliegirl- Adorable halloween mickey tees. Do you do one for Christmas as well? I would love to see since we are going in Dec. We used to live in So.Cal for 5 years, but came back home to the Midwest.

Here are my 2 girls in their back to school outfits.

Here is the Halloween twirl skirt that I finished for my DD7, now I have to work on the one for DD5.

This is the peasant top for DD5. Do you all like the MM head centered or down to the side?

WOW! Cute back to school outfits!

I like it centered only because it's all I "know". It's in my comfort zone, LOL!

Love the twirl skirt in patchwork! I love the look of the Halloween prints all together!

I just saw one similar but the seams were on the outside and frayed. It was cool, but no more ruffling for me till I get the low shank ruffler foot at Hancock...at a better price than $29.99 (retail).

Does anyone happen to have a link or instructions on how to make a simple skirt out of two bandannas for a little girl? I saw it somewhere and picked up some super cool bandannas....I didn't book mark the link :guilty:

Maybe I'll just fiddle with them to see if I can remember. I think it was tied not elastic'd.

Much appreciation and thanks in advance! :grouphug:

That is so fantastic!!! I'm sure when your DB saw her face light up as JoJo made a fuss over her that he was soooo glad you'd sent the outfit!!

I am so happy. I was so upset about what happened to you I told my DH and he was even miffed. The first thing he said was that sounds like your brother.

He said if someone went through the trouble to do that for us he would have been polite. Plus it is your DN that should love it! I am glad it turned out good.

That was me! I found it at another Joann's. I hadn't beed to this one before and I wasn't impressed at first until I got to the back of the store...their "quilting" dept. is huge! Tons of fabric! And its really no further from my house, I don't know how I missed that store before now! Thanks, but I' all set on the fabric!

I am glad that you found it. I could not remember but I figured for $5 it was not a big deal to pick it up. I am not sure if I should keep it. I could take it over to :wizard: but the more I look at it the more I like it.

By the way how many Halloween outfits does one child need?

When do you start puttin Halloween outfits on your kids? Before this year they had one Old Navy tee shirt and this year they are going to have a bunch of outfits!

MAN! You sit down and sew for a day and get waaaayyy behind here! :) I am going to sit down and catch up but wanted to let you all know that right now at disneyshopping.com they are doing free shipping on select items. I bought matching studio T's for DH and DS - on sale with free shipping!

I am SOO excited to share my completed customs with you guys!!

This was my first attempt at the decoupage method. I had the jean jacket laying around (it won't fit Mally long) just waiting for the opportunity to be embellished! Catch the HIDDEN MICKEYS???

This is the decoupage jeans with peasant top... (again, notice the hidden Mickey??) I didn't make them to match the jacket (denims are very different), but I loved the fabrics so much, I wanted to use them again.

... and these are my favorite... the Minnie overalls. We just got the MJ Crocs and Minnie head Jibbit. I found this adorable top at Carters (Mally's a 6x, so I painfully made my LAST Carters purchase for her, EVER!) I may apply something in the back top of the overalls where I took off the OshKosh label. Maybe another spray of flowers?

Sorry about Mally's PAINED expression. She was missing Hannah Montana...

I love all your creations, but these are my favorites! Beautiful work! I also just noticed that you are a fellow Amy as well as a fellow Mainer.

Sad, but true! He has sent her a baby sign language dvd, a phonics game, and respsonsibility chart. We sent very nice thank yous to be polite. I understand there is a place for all of those things but . . . we send super fun stuff that the kids will love. My DH says if it does not have batteries do not send it to them.

Just an idea  For all the kids with grumpy parents give their kids play doh and finger paints! Make sure you put it in a gift bag and show it to the kid as soon as you arrive at the party!:rotfl:

Kids should be kids! IMHO

Tomorrow is my B-day so I doubt I'll get any sewing done. Despite my insistance that I wanted NOTHING to be done for my b-day my mom invited the family over for cake. Whatever. She's trying to be nice, I'd really rather forget that I'm turning 30 though.

Will post progress pics tomorrow.

Happy Birthday!

I'm really disappointed in you girls, I was hoping for some direction w/ the minnie dot outfit-It's just not working out the way it did in my head.

TOTALLY OT: Just realized that my inlaws changing us to an off property hotel cancels my extra magic hours plans INCLUDING the magical beginnings. I'm tempted to get a room at a moderate just to be able to go- is that totally insane???

The twirl skirt is adorable.

I prefer the Mickey Head in the center of the outfits.

Love that old sewing machine. My mother has an old singer machine in a table. It used to work about 15 years ago when I still lived at home. Her machine looked alot like yours.
