Yea! I got the Minnie fabric! :dance3: :cheer2:

I wanted to add it to the couple of pirate fabrics I have so that I can do a pirate patchwork twirly skirt with a t-shirt. I was thinking about doing a combo type twirly skirt with some tulle in it. I'm glad someone asked the question about how to gather it, I'll be picking up some dental floss tape when I hit Waldemort next trip. pirate: argh! Whee!

This thread has really gotten me inspired to get back at my machine and doing something creative! Thanks ladies and Tom!

Hi Everyone!! Sorry I haven't been around in awhile. I have been trying to catch up for days! Sounds like I will be looking for a ruffler foot the next time I am out.:)

Love your new creations!

Here are some photos of my kids in the world wearing items I made.

They look adorable and like they are having a great time!

Can I have your opinion? I need to finish off this skirt. It has been changed since this pic. I added more panels to make it fuller.

I just bought the black ribbon with hanging cold coins. Would you put the ribbon off coins right under the elastic on the top or do it as a trim on the bottom.

The shirt that is going to with it is a black t-shirt with 600 gemstones. It is shorter than the white tank she has on in the pic.

I think it would be more durable along the top under the elastic waistband. I'm always worried about trim coming off the bottoms of skirts, that area gets more wear and tear than the waistband. Just my opinion!

b. bias tape used inside a seam. Don't know what it's called.

How does this work?

Da ta da da . . . It's done!
By the way- I used McCall's M5084.

Love it!! I made a note of the pattern # also!

PLEASE tell me what pattern you all are using for the apron style dresses? I did a search on google and can not find the one shown on here. Pretty please!!

Well, I'm on my way home from WV and I've called the Hancocks on the way with no luck finding the Princess Toile. Oh well!

Karrierock - Do you know if the Hobby Lobby in M'boro has it?

Does anyone use another photo site besides photobucket? I can't get photobucket to load on dh's laptop and I want to show the fabric I bought while in WV.

Does anyne know where I can get this fabric, or the name of it?! I've checked Joann's - they don't have it!!

I saw some at WM in Morgantown WV last night. It was "NOT" exactly the same, but it was black w/candy corn. It was $2/yd.

ETA: It was NOT exactly the same! Sorry!

I finally finished an outfit!! It's hemmed, has ruffles AND has the coordinating jeans!! (Although I may still add something to the jeans, just don't know what?!) I have to add the buttons - wanted DD to try it on first!

We're not going, but this would be cute for MNSSHP! Just add an orange minnie applique on the bodice, some mini minnie heads on the jeans. I saw it like that on VOLDEMORT (yep this was CASEd) - it was going for BIN $100.

BTW - I think I'm going to add ruffles to all of the jeans DD has grown out of!! The double ruffle made these the perfect length!!

I'm not Lisa (obviously! :) ) but if you google "gored skirt" there are several free tutorials. I can't post links yet, but here's one that looks very clear (add the www part): patternsthatfityou.com/frskirtcl.htm

You'll just make more "gores" for a twirl skirt, but it has pictures on how to draw the panels. :) There are also a few for-purchase twirl skirt patterns on youcanmakethis.com if you like detailed instructions with pictures and measurements.

Dear Annacp,
Thanks so much for the link...I will check it out! I appreciate you taking the time to tell me about it.

I used it when I made the Pluto Poodle Skirt. I bought one of those rolls of tulle, 6 inches wide. Then just ruffled the whole roll. I didn't bother to make a side seam. Just stitched it to the skirt lining. Then did the second row just above it, overlaying the top stitching. I even had some left over, so when she goes to the next couple of sizes up, it will still work. It was so easy. And here I've been cursing up a storm for years when I had to ruffle tulle.

Sally, would you please PM me how you made your skirt? DDs are wanting me to make them for MGM, dd8 wants pink w/Pluto and dd6 wants blue w/Perdie. I've tried the layered tulle skirt pattern from YCMT and it turned out horrible. I love yours and would like to know more about the 6" wide tulle!

I think so too.

My Riley is a girl and she will be 10 on Oct. 1st!

I think I'm going to have a nervous breakdown. I just realized that I am going to have a kid in double digits and my baby is going to kindergarten all in just a couple of weeks!:scared: When did that happen?

I thought I would share with you that my girls are the same ages. My Susie will turn 10 on Oct 2nd and my Gladys starts K this Fall.

I do have a son, though. He is 14 years old.

thanks you.... under the waistband it is :)

This may be common practice, but when in doubt I always pin something and hang it up for a couple of days so I can see it in passing before I sew it down. Make sure you post pics when you're done so we can see the coins and the skirt w/more panels!

Very cute! I've been contemplating on making Halloween & Thanksgiving outfits, but I'm not doing that unless I get our wdw stuff done first!

Appliques are really sloooowwwww going!

Have some popcorn:: while you wait for me to finish!!!!

F.Y.I. There's an auction for Henry Alexander's Smiles around the world on Voldemort. It's for 1 yard and it ends in 3 hours.

The one time I worked with it, I gathered by hand first. Then I cut a piece of extra wide bias tape the length I needed the tulle skirt to be, tucked the gathered edge of the tulle inside the bias tape, used every pin I owned ;), and sewed very slowly on the machine.

That's a really good idea! I 've wondered about that. I had concluded that hand basting with dental floss would work but isn't as tidy as the bias tape method. Thanks!

How does this work?

To use bias tape INSIDE say an arm seam on a sleeveless top, you use the double fold bias tape. Or you can make your own, cutting on the bias of the same or coordinating fabric.

Put right sides together of the fabric and the bias tape, and pin all along the opening. Stitch a narrow seam on the first fold. Then fold it all under to the wrong side and either stitch a straight seam along the very most edge of the bias tape or you can cut some of the width if you find it's too thick, then stitch. Make sure to use a coordinating thread and sew very straight.

I think that's about as clear as mud. Maybe there's a step by step with pictures somewhere? To me it looks a little nicer than casing a seam in bias tape as an edging.

Tom, depending on what you decide to do, there is an interfacing made for knit fabrics. It has some stretch to it, but will stablize your fabric. I used it when I made a quilt. I took my old favorite disney shirts and cut out large squares, used the knit interfacing. Then used regular cotton fabric. I didn't have any trouble using 2 types of fabric.

I would love to see your quilt!

So funny, I saw that on Voldemort and have that fabric cut to Case that set also. Great minds think alike. I have 2 outfits before it. I am also using an old Gymbo white eyelet dress that I cut the bodice off of for the underskirt and hope it will work. I will post pics when done also but hopefully it will look the same. I am going to add the Minnie Head, I think.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I think I actually feel asleep leaning against my machine waiting for it to applique. If I do the fast stitch it jams up, so I have to go RRREEEEAAAALLLL SSSSLLLLOOOOWWWW!!!!!! :sad2: :sad2: :crazy2: :faint: :furious: :bored: :bored:

Just a couple more pictures from our trip.
